Every dish was perfect from crab cake starters to creme Brûlées. Our family table of six had three different choices of mains, salmon, chicken and venison. Every plate was perfect, with tasty sauces, jus, creamy leeks and lemon butter sauce with the fish. We all had desserts and wine too. This is how restaurants should be, great service, no rush and absolutely stunning food.

Owner is there, at the desk .. it’s rare now but it’s clear she cares a lot and is taking a series of steps to make the most of a historic and charming hotel - how many are left which are privately owned?! I had room 108 which was cute and comfy with iconic little views from two windows. Noticed a good sized outside area and the free parking was useful so centrally located in Shepton M. Price was very reasonable for a couple of nights stay. I didn’t eat at restaurant so can’t say how that was but would stay again if in area - so easy to nip down road to Glastonbury and enjoy the Tor views on the way.

My wife and I both have Shepton connections but had never been to the cafe before. Having g recently retired, we called in for a toasty and a sandwich. The food selection is brilliant, prices really reasonable (no £8 sandwiches here), and the staff really friendly. Sadly, the cafe is up for sale but we really hope to get the chance to return before it closes or goes upmarket.

Came here for a family Sunday lunch and quite disappointed. I ordered first out of the group and informed the server of my gluten allergy. I was not shown the allergen matrix. The gluten free roast pork is a regular roast - but no gravy and no yorkshire pudding, this was not mentioned when ordering. The meat and potatoes were both dry and resorted to having ketchup with my meal. Bit different to the traditional roast I was expecting. One member of the party ordered the vegetarian Roast Butternut Squash. She claims it tastes like “pumpkin guts” and found it inedible. Dessert was a bit of a nightmare. The menu states the lemon cheesecake is gluten free. Was really looking forward to it. When it arrived I confirmed with the waiter if it was gluten free, he said if that’s what the menu says then yes. Took a couple bites and he ran back to say it was in fact, not gluten free. He did seem super concerned and very apologetic but was not an ideal mistake to happen. Just glad I hadn’t had any more than I did. Shame though because it did taste delicious!! Received no apology from any management which was distasteful. They did remove it off the bill for us. Wouldn’t recommend this for anyone with allergies. When we spoke to the manager as we left they apologised for the “oversight”. It did not appear that they were in any rush to make changes to the menu. This was not a fault of the server but the lazy and disinterested management.

Incredibly bad , I am terribly mean but have thrown out better food Sunday lunch veggie option, same without meat not heard that for decades Veggie sausage hard ..so hard doweling or missile don’t eat if you have and sort of dental issues Service poor one nice lady Just don’t do it , nice looking scone tasted of nothing and soggy Was actually a a bonus after the rest Also had some soup quit nice Potatoes rather like the sausage but just inedible and had no other use. Anyone old enough to rennet the mockery of service stations in the 70’s this is worse Bt food is superior ..

Booked table . Restaurant empty, no one else in the dining room. Had to ask where we put our coats. Service extremely slow , ordered pre-lunch drinks at bar as no one attended to us, and had to ask for menu as no-one came to take our order. Long, long wait for main course and inbetween courses. Main courses very tasty but whole meal served already on plates not in serving dishes. Puddings very disappointing, profiteroles stodgy , heavy , no cream or sauce with these or the chocolate tart, very basic . Had to go to bar to request coffees. We were very neglected , staff were more interested in putting Christmas decorations up and putting fake flower arrangements around. It took three hours for five persons to be served lunch and it felt as if we were unimportant. Very disappointed , lots of staff but no attention to dining guests.
