Great little place. Checking in at the bar was easy, and the gentleman who assisted us was very polite. The room was small but perfect for a one-night stay. The bathroom was well-designed with a toilet, shower, and sink. The restaurant provided a pleasant experience, featuring a well in the center. The food was delicious, well-priced, and the service was impressive. The young woman handling both the bar and table service did an excellent job on her own. It's an ideal location, just 6 minutes from town and the hospitals. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it.

We've been visiting for breakfast for some years and found that they are reliably good for breakfast. Food is not fancy but their Full English is fine. Both toast and coffee are fresh and the service is good most days, though it depends who is on duty. One of the waitresses is slow, pretty chilly, and would probably prefer not to have any customers. If we see that she is there we leave without ordering. The toilets are clean and we've always been able to get into the car park.

Stayed here 6 & 7 July - humid weekend. A good base for visiting Cheddar, Wells, Bath and Longleat. The hotel on a busy main road. Reasonable carpark from which you approach the entrance past fish pond and the garden seating area that must contain more plants than any garden centre!! Reception is the bar. Cheerfully booked in, and given two security codes for our bedroom and the outer door should we arrive back late. These pressbutton locks are fiddly but take time and press deliberately. Taken up to the 2nd floor suite (3 flights of stairs) warning that it would be hot (a fan is provided). The room was large - double and single beds, table and office chair, 2 sofas, TV table (Sky) and mini fridge should you wish to fill it. The en-suite is large - corner bath and separate shower. Windows on 2 sides, which with the heat and humidity just had to be opened letting in more road noise! The hospitality cannot be faulted, with advice available on the best ways to approach any local destinations. The limited menu includes vegetarian options. Try the 10-oz sirloin for £16 ! The bar is well stocked, especially with gin and cider. So what is wrong with the establishment? Better double glazing might subdue road noise, parts need more TLC - eg: carpets and window blinds - and bathroom had tiles missing on the stack-pipe trunking - and there is no shaver point. If it's a quiet and salubrious place you need this is not it, but for the money, hospitality and food makes a good impression.

Booked 3 rooms for a one night family stay, I read some reviews & spoke to the Manager & staff member - both assured me that the reviews were disgruntled customers & that we have booked some of the best rooms. On arrival we were given key codes to rooms (no keys) & even the 1st set of stairs we were presented with a broken blind hanging off - but it got much worse! Each room had a filthy toilet brush which still had remnants left from previous guests, filthy carpet, a window that wouldn’t close properly, stains on the bathroom wall & mouldy tea bags! But sadly there was worse to come, my daughter hot bites on her legs after sleeping in the very lumpy bed! Then we decided to risk breakfast which is located in bar area for breakfast & the owners dog actually went to the toilet on the carpet.....some was cleaned up but a large smelly lump was not cleaned up & absolutely no urgency made by the staff to clean it up! I was not expecting perfection, however what any guest should receive is a clean room & no mouldy tea bags or dog crap in the breakfast area. Also, none of the electrical appliances in our rooms had pat testing labels - another area of concern.

Stayed on 2 night break. First room was filfthy. Dirty, stained threadbare carpet. Dirty curtains/Windows and window sill covered in dead flies. Mould everywhere in bathroom. Thick dust on furniture. This was all topped by finding used milk portion in tea/coffee making facilities as well as cigarette roll up papers. Smoke detector had been covered with plastic bag. We complained and given different room. Same filfth! Breakfast next day - dirty kiln jars containing cereal, one remained empty for duration of our stay. 2 sugar bowls containing dirty, damp looking sugar. Fridge with thick mould over all seals, containing one yogurt, jug of milk and juices. Tables dirty and covered in crumbs. Just had toast on 2nd morning, couldn't bring myself to risk cooked breakfast again. Returned on first night to find place in darkness and all locked up, think we were alone in property, goodness knows what we would have done if there had been a problem. Take our advice, if you value your health, don't stay at this establishment

We ordered our food and 45 minutes after ordering we were told that they could not make our pizzas due to some members of staff not turning up. We decided to have burgers instead. freshly baked baguettes and water were delivered to our table. Our food arrived about two hours after ordering despite the pub being quiet with only two other tables occupied. Burgers and fish and chips were very good. Three of us had ordered steaks and they were awful one steak was crispy like it had been deep fried. Chips were nice but Corn on the cob was still frozen. It was our first stay at Cannards Well, we stayed for 2 nights i. Suite A.On arrival I noticed there was no fridge in the room as advertised. The manager apologised and immediately brought a fridge up for us. I always think you should judge a place not by what is wrong but on how your complaint is dealt with so ten out of ten here. The manager, and the waiting staff could not be faulted, they were very attentive, polite and helpful. The outside and inside decor is very tired and could do with a lick of paint at least or a facelift at best. Our mattress was very poor, we could feel the springs in it and didn't get a good nights sleep. The water was just warm and didn't stay warm long enough to run a decent bath. We mentioned this to the manager who again apologised and promised to look into both. An overweight gentlemen frequented the bar, we guess he may be the owner. He was very rude to his staff and created somewhat of an atmosphere that was not very pleasant. Whilst we were discussing our complaint with the manager, the owner pulled the manager away which we thought was very rude. The food was delicious, we came down late for breakfast on the first morning and the food on the buffet looked like it had been sitting there for some time but then we were down late. The next morning we were down earlier and the food was fresh and tasty. You do hear traffic from the main road but then you would expect to given the location. Overall we had a pleasant stay and with a few changes this could be a wonderful place - a refurb inside and out and either the removal of the owner from the public areas or a change of attitude. The Manager and waiting staff are a real credit to this place and if it wasn't for them we are sure it wouldn't be as busy as it was.

A real place of contrasts! From the outside all looks clean and neat and tidy, but the inside is a sad story of sticky tables and a lack of cleaning! Breakfast is advertised on a banner as ....'from £4.95 but a disinterested barman told us that.....'breakfast is breakfast!' I would probably have had the full house anyway, but my petite wife is more of a poached-egg-on-toast person, so was a bit daunted! The waitresses were, I'm afraid, clueless, slow and surly....and everything was an effort...brought the coffee, no milk.....brought the milk, no sugar...You had to order your eggs which were then plated and dumped under the lights because the staff couldn't remember who ordered them!! And it wasn't packed by any means.I feel sorry for the chef (and up the rating to 2/5) because the breakfast was actually fine!

We will never set foot in there again and would not reccomend it. The buffet breakfast was also cold but we were overlooking that. After allowing time for my stomach to settle , I followed this with a fantastic plumb crumble with a generous portion of ice cream. The sweet menu was on offer that week at a staggering £2.50 . Fantastic value for such a generous size , full of flavour dessert . The staff were friendly and although the décor was not brilliant the whole experience was greatly appreciated by all the 10 family members. Well worth a visit if you want quality and quantity at a reasonable price.

We were travelling back from Glastonbury to London and ready to eat, we saw the pub and it looked a good place to stop. We went in and it was empty and didn't look too good. We decided to at least have a drink and look at the menu. Having decided to eat we sat down and the friendly waitress was right there to help us. We ordered the carvery and vegetable soup. The soup arrived - home made and very tasty. Then the main course arrived, a good amount of fresh cut turkey breast with Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes. The vegetables arrived on a separate platter, a mix of carrots, green beans, cauliflower cheese, parsnips, corn, peas, sweet potato and several others. All the food was excellent, all fresh and cooked as required, no frozen or left over food. There was more than enough food and some unfortunately had to be left as we were both full. The staff were friendly and as the pub started to get more people, the pub took on a good atmosphere, we must just have been a little early (4.45). Looking at what others were eating, the meals seemed to be consistent in quality and quantity. When the bill arrived we were shocked at how low the price was..... the soup, the main meals and drinks came to £25 for the two of us, I've paid more than the total for just a main course that was not as good as we got. We left full and happy to continue our journey. If I find myself back in the area, I will certainly call in again.

We went to Cannards Well because of our Inn Keeper's recommendation as having a really nice steak and food. It was Thursday late afternoon and we were hoping to have an early dinner. First off, the bar/restaurant area was empty, except for a lady who we assumed was a guest of the hotel. The manager was friendly enough, but in the menu he provided, there was no mention of steak, having set my mind on it, I was a bit disappointed. I ended up ordering a burger instead. The presentation was nice, but that was the most horrible burger I have ever eaten :(. It didn't taste anything like a beef burger. There was a prominent vinegary taste which was not pleasant at all. We paid nearly £9 for it so I gritted my teeth, chewed and swallowed. It was a painful dinner for me. The Manager was also discussing money and issues about the guest of the hotel with a man whom we presume is the owner, but it was all within our earshot. The bar was pretty much empty save for 1 or 2 people who sauntered in and was clearly a regular, There was actually a couple who walked in while we were eating and walked straight out as soon as they saw what was inside. Maybe it was the time and the day of our visit. I am hoping that our case was an isolated one. But I'm afraid first impressions lasts, and we are definitely NOT coming back for the reasons stated earlier. :(

Landlord who knows everthing except how to speak to his customers - landlady who thinks she is above everyone and to cap it all the food was AWFUL - I've eaten basic fish and chips in many places but this was the worst ever A soggy mess!!! . Save your money and go next door much better service and the food is excellent.

Went to Cannards a couple of times on my recent visit to the UK and WOW! What a lovely experience. The Sunday carvery was spectacular with plenty of meats and fresh veggies to choose from. My second visit was for dinner, and again not at all disappointed. The T-bone steak was to die for and the pate starter was delicious. On both occasions I had superb service and very friendly bar staff, the chef even came by the table to say hello and see how our meal was. Looking forward to eating at Cannards again in the future and would recomend it to anyone!

Popped in for a swift one after going round the garden and up the tor. Friendly staff, great service, okay drinks selection. Didn't have food so can't comment. Seemed like it needed a bit of life pumped into the walls, had a very local village pub vibe in most, very cool fire place in the bar. Would absolutely go back for an evening, get a feel that it can be quite a fun one in here!
