Every dish was perfect from crab cake starters to creme Brûlées. Our family table of six had three different choices of mains, salmon, chicken and venison. Every plate was perfect, with tasty sauces, jus, creamy leeks and lemon butter sauce with the fish. We all had desserts and wine too. This is how restaurants should be, great service, no rush and absolutely stunning food.

A Saturday evening in September and a friendly greeting. Service was good and the food was very pleasant, but as has been said elsewhere, the prices are a little high - not drastically so, but compared with similar restaurants, it could do with a little downward adjustment. I know times are difficult in the hospitality business with prices rocketing, but others with similar menus have managed it.

A top quality meal cooked to perfection and lovely service. We couldn't fault it. But the decor lets it down and doesn't do it justice. Ambience would be hugely improved with a more interesting and stylish setting. However, I would still highly recommend it and would go again.

What a lovely family run restaurant! I emailed in advance, asking if they had a childrens menu as there wasn’t one on the website. A response came straight away saying they could cater for the children and what would they like! We preordered their meals, choosing the belly of pork with chips. When we arrived at the restaurant, we were warmly welcomed and shown to our table. We were given plenty of time to read the menu and were never rushed to make choices, which is a nice change. The hostess was very accommodating and was there to please. She asked if the boys would like vegetables with their meals and she ensured there was enough veg for us all to share. The other diners were lovely too, chatting with the boys after we had all finished our meals. The food was fantastic! It was freshly made and tasty, the portion sizes being perfect for us. We would definitely return.

Booked Blostins for my mum's birthday after reading reviews of restaurants in the local area as we were staying I'm Croscombe. So Glad we found this gem. Excellent value for money. Every course was excellent. All so tasty. We had pork and lamb for mains, both cooked to perfection. Lovely wine. Great atmosphere, a very warm and cosy restaurant with friendly service. They even popped a candle in my mums dessert and decorated with 'Happy Birthday' a really lovely touch. We will definitely be visiting again when in the area. Thank you for a lovely evening.

This restaurant was one of our first meals after lockdown in our area. We were also on on our first trip out for a weekend away and as we had missed at least 2 foreign holidays we were prepared to spend a couple of bob at the best restaurant in Shepton Mallet (in the opinion of our hosts at Longbridge House). I will not dwell on how good or not this restaurant is but we had a short walk back from Blostin's full and slightly pickled and it did not do my pocket too much harm either. In my opinion a good night out. Try it for yourself, it may have been the best restaurant in Shepton Mallet.

Good food, well cooked and served by polite attentive staff. Nice ambience in the restaurant. The menu is not over complicated with a good choice of meat/fish and vegetarian dishes on offer. I had the smoked trout starter and Hake for main. Food was tasty, nicely presented and service was prompt (not very busy though) I would return to Blostins and would recommend.

We really enjoyed our meal last night. Firstly, the attentive service really went above and beyond - at Blostins the menu works like this: you pay £24 and you get two courses. My partner went for a starter and I a pudding, so we could try both. The kitchen split the starter between two plates just for us and brought it out beautifully presented. How nice! The food was very good - French-style cooking in that a lot of attention is paid to creating spectacular sauces (the grilled hake was divine) and well-balanced flavours. The trio of puddings was a nice touch too.The wines we tried were both really excellent and it's nice to see a restaurant with a broad selection of old world wines and an organic option (I struggle with sulphites, so old world + organic is usually better for me).It is perhaps on the pricier end for Shepton, but it is a very special experience. We really enjoyed it.

Blostins are back and better than ever. First visit since lockdown and the restaurant is brighter thanks to a refurbishment. Lighter decor shows off the lovely dining room, the menu was classy as always. We dived into the hake and lamb, both dishes were superb and served with shared veg on the table and potato dauphinois. The quality of this restaurant is in the sauces, the hake with capers, prawns and lemon butter while the rump of lamb had a rosemary jus. Deserts were Creme Brûlée and a Ginger Meringue Parfait, just mouth watering. We were so pleased to be back, it’s been too long. Great service and welcome as ever, a real gem of a restaurant. ❤️

Blostins is one of the very few restaurants in our area that always keeps a high standard of lovely fresh food cooked by a chef in house. The welcome is warm and inviting and the prices are excellent and the quality of the food is superb. The decor most comfortable and very inviting. I feel strongly that the recent November review was extremely unfair and can assure anyone that all food is cooked in house. We have been visiting this restaurant for many years and know we are always guaranteed good food.

Having read so many great reviews we felt that we had to try the place. Having done that this evening, we can only support what was said by the reviewer of the 3rd September 2018 which questioned how and why it had received so many positive reviews. Front of house welcome and service was fine but the food did not convince us that any of it was freshly cooked on the premises. So it was OK without being anything special and somewhat on the pricey side for what was delivered. Overall disappointing and more so as we are moving to nearby Frome and are looking for good eating holes. This one is off the list. The owners have run it for 35 years possibly without changing the menu too much and it's just a bit tired now.

We are so glad that we came to Blostins. What a great surprise. We weren't initially sure when we arrived, being sat in a corner and offered drinks whilst we choose from a chalkboard menu on the wall surrounded with dated decor, but perhaps that put some charm to it.Once we'd decided, we were escorted to our table with various artworks on the walls for sale. The food was great, and very nicely cooked and presented. We asked for extra bread with our soup as the soup to bread ratio was a bit unbalanced but they gave us more without charge, which was great. Our main meals were both excellent and very delicious; dessert to follow was the same.We both had 3 course meals and my partner had wine, I had soft drinks, and it still came to just under £70 I think. So not bad considering the food you are getting in quite a small town.It is only open for a few days every week and is definitely worth trying.

Its small and quite intimate so has a nice’ feel’ to it. The food is ok, nothing spectacular but ok, perhaps a little pricy for what it is, all except the so called ‘blissful garlic bread’ which was sadly lacking in garlic taste and frantically overpriced. There were four of us so we ordered two portions, a plate arrived with four pieces of very buttery baguette and we full expected a second but no such luck. One portion is just two pieces of bread about 4 inches long and at £3.00 a portion, so £1.50 a piece, has to be the most expensive bread in the country. I know butter has gone up recently but honestly, £1.50!

We were encouraged to eat here from the reviews on TA. I must say I am at a loss as to how such high ratings were derived. The food was decidedly average and we suspected the main course of "boeuf en croute" being individual, had a catering provider stamp. Finally, the decor and furnishings were very tired 1970's and not enhanced by the random amateur paintings, for sale at discounted prices on the walls.

We were recommended to this quirky French bistro following a disastrous meal in the hotel we were staying at locally, Charlton House. The restaurant was very oldly Worldy with interesting features and a roaring fire which was welcome on a cold night. We were lucky to get a table as it was very busy and it was a Saturday night. We both had the crab tarts followed by the fillet of beef in puff pastry - all delicious and very filling. Very sad as too full for pudding! It was presented beautifully and really good value. We tend to go this venue around twice a year and none of us has ever had any cause for complaint. From the outside it looks quite plain, but the inside is like an old fashioned cottage, but with plenty of seating as they have extended into another cottage. There is a very small cosy reception area where you can have a drink and choose your meal. There are no draught beers available, but there is a good variety of bottled ales. The food was fine, but not exceptional. I liked my crab starter the best. It was well cooked and pleasantly served. The decor was ok, we had finished the meal in an hour, so did not really contribute to a night out. This is in the Good Food Guide as a Little Gem and that it is! Very welcoming and friendly, lovely menu - we would have been happy with any of the dishes. Well presented, tasty food all very sensibly priced for the quality. One amusing thing was the 'Blissful garlic bread' which was 2 not very generous pieces of toasted baguette with some garlic butter; not what I would describe as blissful! This was the only disappointment - the rest of the meal was very good. The rather dated decor and furniture belies what is a very good quality restaurant and, with the introduction of white table cloths, better quality cutlery and glasses, this would almost become fine dining.

4 of us were in on a busy Saturday night, we usually visit twice a year to treat Mum on special occasions. This restaurant is so welcoming, a nice snug of a bar where orders are taken and first drinks can be taken. I love the fact that the menu changes on every visit, although we search for our firm favourites on the desserts, Creme Brûlée is a winner here!We had 3 rumps of perfect lamb roasted with broad beans, peas, bacon rosemary jus, goats cheese & caramelised red onion and I had the Vege dish, sun dried tomato tart with pesto dressing, gorgeous. As well as the Creme Brûlée we had Ice cream and a brioche and butter pudding with thick cream. We just about finished, the home made fudge with coffee went in my wife's hand bag and was delightful a day later. Service is discreet and unfussy, value is amazing, which is why we keep going back. Having, on local recommendation, recently eaten twice here it is difficult to find anything special about the place. The bar/reception area is small and a thoroughfare to the loos; the welcome was not exactly friendly; pre meal drinks were very slow in being served,. the menu is written on boards which to see you have to be seated on the right side of the room. The £20 two course menu was nothing special. The two way pork dish was overcooked with very little belly meat. The chicken was not much better. The salmon was the best but all the sauces were over salted. The starters were by far the best course with the fish soup being excellent.A pity no plain quality bread was on offer. The garlic bread was far from "blissful" - it overwhelmed everything and the air around the table.Tap water was offered immediately when we sat down, however on both visits to get a refill and for the wine to be opened and tasted proved to be rather challenging. The Brouilly and Fleurie were most acceptable and reasonably priced.Service was disappointing, presentation of food was rather haphazard and excessive enthusiasm was exhibited in wanting to serve the coffee before the wine was finished. We felt we were not really wanted, we were pleased we did not have the far more expensive seasonal menu.Going by previous comments maybe we caught them on a couple of bad night. If you are in locality worth a try.

I think there are two points to be made about Blostin's:1. This is a neighbourhood restaurant run by a husband and wife team who have clearly worked very hard and the food is much better than perhaps the appearance suggests. 2. We really did enjoy our meal hence 4/5 rating but I would say it's not a cheap meal. Not in itself a problem but something to be aware of. The set menu is nice but minimum spend is £20 for two courses. I think the cheapest wine was around £20ish so for me, it was fair value but not exceptional value. I may be spoilt by living in Bristol though!

For some years now we have been appreciative diners at Blostins. You fall into the cosy reception area and contemplate the menu on the wall while you enjoy a pre-prandial drink. You order, and are led to your table when it is ready. There is always a seasonal fixed-price menu which is so good that I have seldom strayed from it. This time we had a hearty fish soup and a divine cream of asparagus one and both chose for the main course the duck breast with cassis sauce and pear. Potato gratin and a selection of beautifully-cooked vegetables come with the main course and by the time you have finished this delicious and imaginative composition you know you have truly eaten well. But you must leave room for the dessert! Some substantial, like the intense chocolate cheesecake (for those who have forgone a starter, perhaps) and others lighter -- crème brulee, pannacotta, Cointreau ice cream, for instance, for which I can assure you will be worthwhile to overcome temporary feelings of fullness! Somerset is a county of quiet gastronomic tradition which leads even those of us not over-encumbered with money to expect very high standards. In Blostins we find them. We are so lucky to have Blostins in Shepton Mallet!

Over the years we have held a number of special family event meals at Blostins and last Saturday we went there, nine of us, to celebrate our Golden Wedding Anniversary which our children were treating us to. The beef in puff pastry with maderia sauce ,pork and fish dishes were ordered as mains after a selection of starter and enjoyed by all before rounding off with some lovely desserts. Relaxed happy atmosphere , reasonable prices I am sure and we all went home well pleased with our evening

We were looking for somewhere to eat whilst away on holiday as a group of 7 friends and stumbled upon this place thanks to trip advisor. Thank goodness we did, it's a real hidden gem! From the outside it may not look like anything much, but do not be deceived, the food is something really special. The menu was relatively small, but all really well thought out dishes using seasonal and local produce, the prices on the a la carte menu were what you would expect, and the set menu offered excellent value for money. Every dish that was ordered was presented beautifully and tasted wonderful. All in all, extremely hard to fault, just wish I lived closer as I would no doubt be coming back very soon!

We arrived at this restaurant by chance, looking for somewhere to eat on the way from Frome to Bridgwater. The pork dish I had was brilliantly designed and executed, with an interesting and plentiful sauce, a melt-in-the-mouth piece of apple, and a sprig of crackling. My wife had an excellent fish dish. Gourmet meal results without gourmet meal prices. Just wish it was nearer to where we live.

This little restaurant is a hidden little gem. For 2 years we have lived here and never new this place was open. We often passed it but saw know life. Thank goodness we now know it is open. To start i had garlic bread to share and goats cheese salad; delicious. For the main I had duck breast with poached pear; this for me was cooked to utter perfection, I had to stifle my ooohs and mmmms. the small niggle i have is the portion size of the garlic bread, 2 very small slices for £2.85. If the rest of the meal wasnt as good as it was I would have complained but as it stands, its a forgettable issue. overall....fantastic!!

We haven't visited Blostins for a few years as we moved away from the area, however on a visit back to Shepton we were able to meet friends there. The food was as good as I remember and the staff are so friendly and attentive. Can't wait to go back.

Honestly can't fault any aspect of our evening at blostins and I think it exceeded all of our expectations. It was my nans birthday and she'd always wanted to eat at blostins so we all decided to take her out and treat her like she deserved. From the moment we walked into the bar we immediately felt at ease and welcome. It has a really cosy intimate feel with a fire burning and you can sit and chat in there with your drinks whilst waiting for you orders to be processed and table ready. The menu is great and there's so much choice, the set menu is great with two courses for £20. You definitely get your money's worth even so, paying that bit more is worth it for the amazing service and food you get. The inside of the restaurant is really quirky, with lots of local artwork on the walls which my family commented on, really nice. The restaurant is bright and bold, which I really liked. Overall we can't fault a thing and I think we were all left speechless and surprised at just how perfect everything was. My nan isn't one for praise or saying too much and she couldn't stop saying how lovely it was, which I think sums it up. All mains were a hit and the puddings went down really well. Thank you again Blostins for a great experience and an unforgettable night, I know a lot of us will definitely be returning! X

Hidden behind what looks almost like a private house lies a delightful experience. Arrived on a frosty February night to be welcomed by a homely fire in the reception area. From then it simply got better. Truly excellent food served by attentive friendly staff. Middle of the range price for top class food. Can't wait to visit again.

You enter directly into a small reception area with a welcoming log fire blazing away where you are greeted by the extremely pleasant co-owner who will take the food/drinks orders. Reservations are booked precisely at small intervals enabling perfect timings when presenting the different courses. Two starters of warm salad with bacon and chicken and one of smoked salmon well presented and enjoyed.Mains of Hake in a saffron sauce with spinach and two of roast Pork cooked two ways with perfect crackling all served with cabbage, carrots, roast parsnips and roast potatoes. Everything was perfectly cooked with nothing left on our plates. Everything offering was prepared to a very high standard with each mouthful producing words of appreciation. Two of the party enjoyed an very acceptable Chilean Sauvignon Blanc. Finally one chocolate brownie with sauce and ice cream, creme brulee and cheese and biscuits all doing their part to finish a very enjoyable meal. The service was immaculate because plates regularly appeared and disappeared without us hardly noticing.I highly recommend Bostins, a family run restaurant providing wonderful food and service in modern surroundings

On our anniversary / datenight we headed down to Waterloo Road , in the rain, to Blostin's restaurant, and were very glad to find a cosy bar area with a roaring open fire. A few other couples were enjoying a glass of wine, and waiting to be seated. We all chatted happily, and it felt really relaxed. Vicky, a local lady, celebrating her birthday raved about the place, and thoroughly recommended the very special “Fillet of Beef baked in Puff Pastry with Madeira Sauce” , she gave it 11 out of ten ! We chose meals from the set menu, which is £20 for two courses/ £24 for three. Once seated, we only had to wait a few minutes for our starters to arrive which was a revelation having been left waiting for food for up to 40 minutes at some restaurants!I tucked into the most deliciously fresh 'Smoked trout with potato pancakes, apple & beetroot salad” served on a delightfully rustic wooden platter. My husband munched on slices of warm crusty “Blissful Garlic Bread” and sipped a local ale. Next he was absolutely blown away by his “ Slow roasted belly & fillet of Pork with apples & cider cream sauce” in twenty years he's never tasted Pork so good. It was soft, tender , full of flavour, and the crackling was dry, crispy not too fatty, yet very tasty. Initially dubious at the portion size, my bloke- halfway though, admitted it was going to be 'just the right amount' ! And it was certainly a case of good quality food, compared to piles of substandard dry meat- like you might find, at a fraction of the price in a Wetherspoons. Nick & Lynee source their meat mostly from local butcher's John Thorner, and the fish is delivered fresh from Cornwall three times a week. We'd MUCH rather save our pennies and come hr, for proper tasty and filling meat! And actually, they do 'specials', lunch deals and smaller portions- so it's still an affordable option. I enjoyed a “Warm Chicken & Bacon salad with walnut oil and pine nuts” , then we shared a mouthwatering dessert of “Belgian Chocolate Cheesecake with homemade orange Cointreau Ice-Cream in a Brandy Snap basket”. The whole meal- we agreed could be described as ORGASMIC !Blostin's is Fine Dining, in a cosy setting. A real treat- and right on our doorstep! Well worth a visit.

It seems going out in Shepton Mallet to eat is getting a bit easier these days so my wife and I chose to give Blostins a go, it was great just what we needed a quiet cozy a homely restaurant to celebrate my wifes birthday. The reception is so comfortable and great to have a glass of wine and chat. We chose the Zinfandel which was delicious. If the restaurant was very busy I could see the reception being a bit to tight for comfort but with only a few people it was great. The food was very traditional fine dining, this was nice as you didnt need a food dictionary to work out what you were going to get. Okay at this point it woth pointing out that I thought the food was excellent value 2 courses for £20 with a la carte option as well. We choose to buy wine and dessert coffee's but we could have eaten quite economically if required. For the locallity it should be a five star rating but im lucky enough to have had even better food experiances elsewhere.Cannot recommend enough if you are in the area and need a nice night out.

A super local restaurant within walking distance which has truly stood the test of time. The food was delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed both my 1st and 2nd courses, especially my melt in the mouth main course venison. I have been visiting this restaurant on and off for over 30 years. The owners are still the same and it definitely still has an intimate family run restaurant feel. I visited with my husband and 3 friends on a damp, dreary January Saturday evening. We had booked for 8pm. Although we had a fun evening, the restaurant was lacking in atmosphere, as fairly empty. It was mid January and people obviously hibernating post Christmas. Also, I feel the main dining space could do with sprucing up. As a previous reviewer remarked it is pretty dated. However this should not put people off and obviously doesn't. I know this is a popular restaurant amongst many and I have always enjoyed my evenings here. They have been here a long time and are quite clearly doing a great job. Worth a visit if in the area but don't forget to check opening times and booking is advisable.

Back in Somerset for the weekend, and couldn't resist a 3rd visit to this fabulous gem of a restaurant. In other cities, especially Manchester we pay double for such quality. I had the vegetarian leeks and cream cheese in filo, just beautiful. Anne chose the local Exmoor Venison, and she was very happy. We had the 3 courses, just. The value is superb, all in for £70.00 inc wine. Service as friendly as ever, just a shame it's not on our doorstep. We'll be back.

The food was good. Not excellent, not bad, but good, which it should be if you are paying £23 for some lamb on a bit of mash. The fish soup was lovely but the duck main course was quite dry.Great wine.Dining room felt a bit like a 1990s sitting room. Orange walls and dated pictures you'd only find in charity shops these days aren't conducive to romance, or ambience!Really got the impression that the owners have their regulars and if you aren't one then you fall far down the pecking order. Their friends seemed to be seated before us and another young couple who had been waiting longer, had to wait over 20 mins for a drink with dirty plates still on table whilst other tables of regulars were seen to before us, despite them finishing their food after us! We got frustrated and decided to leave, finding the waitress texting on her phonevin a corridor and the owner chatting to friends in the bar instead of bringing our drinks (which she had been doing for at least 15 minutes). It was a disappointing experience and we had hoped for more. Maybe it was just an 'off night' but I'm afraid at the prices they charge, the service just wasn't good enough, and neither was the food.

Very warm welcome, good menu and we liked the idea of a la carte or fixed price menu which was reasonably priced. Didn't like the small tables, everything just and just fitted on the table and that was at a push. We will return.

Another outstanding meal. Exceptional food, attentive and friendly service, beautifully and tastefully refurbished pub retaining all of its authentic appeal, and brilliant value for money. Absolutely nothing to fault. It's utterly insane that a place can be this successful and busy and also financially unviable. So sad to hear that the tenants are having to leave when they've done everything perfectly. Impossible to imagine the brewery finding a tenant who can do anything better, so it just feels like they want the pub to fail.

Good afternoon , just want to give some feedback to our disappointing visit to Passeys today . We booked for breakfast and everyone in our group agreed that half the breakfast was cold or warm at the best . One breakfast had a hair in it also . This is not good at all for the premium price charged . We have been several times before as a group of six or less with no problems. I wanted to discuss with the lady serving but one of our group did not want to cause a scene so we just paid and left . This used to be our go to place on Sunday morning . It’s the most expensive breakfast in Portobello, and the quality of food does not now justify the price . We won’t be back .
