The best restaurants serving British food in Astley Mosley Common Wigan North West

We called in with friends for a meal on Friday. What a mistake. We ordered one meal deal which included a starter (or dessert) a main meal and a drink, plus one main. Our friends ordered the same. Firstly we waited well over 30 mins for anything to arrive. Then one starter arrived and one main. Then about 15 min later another main. Then the second starter with what was supposed to be a main. Evidently the order had been taken down wrong (it was spicy meatballs and pasta as the main) all I got was the meatballs which was a starter. Eventually the final main meal arrived. By this time we had been there almost 2 hours. All the food came out at different times. They did offer to do anther pasta dish but by this time didn’t really feel like waiting. A member of our party did speak to someone (not sure if it was the manager or landlord) and we did get one free drink. Only of the two mans were acceptable. Won’t be returning.

Arrived to enjoy the carvery, but it wasn't available due to it being out of service. The staff were very friendly and offered us to choose from the menu. Food was okay

This is possibly the best English Breakfast I have had for a long time. Not what I was expecting at all. Great portions, lovely people and service. If you like a hearty breakfast this is the place to eat. Enjoy!

We were introduced to Dam house by a friend a few months ago and we love coming here. We had breakfast and dinner previously but today we came for Sunday dinner which is £15 for main and dessert. Not only just excellent value, the food was excellent and home made. Better than a lot of pubs also. They also offer wine and beer. Our new favourite place and it’s a lovely building too. Cannot recommend enough!

Food was lovely But Ordered the chorito, which is a ready made wrap with chicken and rice, the chicken still had bones in it. Phoned to tell them and it was blamed on their supplier, dangerous!

Not visited for a while. Popped in for late lunch/early dinner when our local had no tables. Food was lovely, as I remember from a past visit. A good selection of vegetarian/pescetarian dishes for the missus. Both really enjoyed our meals. Not overly expensive, very reasonable in fact if you receive good food. Service was good. Not too busy, lot of families but seems that kind of pub. Will defo be back soon. They do a good full English it seems for like less than 9 quid for the 'big' one. Missus said veg option sounded great too. Will be breakfast our next visit for sure 😊

I have never once left this chippy without a smile on my face. Brilliant atmosphere, staff are exceptionally friendly and they will quite often have a lovely conversation with you while they prepare your food. There are designated sitting areas where you can sit while waiting. Food can take a little while (but never ridiculously long) to prepare but is always very clean and delicious and never too expensive. Plus, even if fish is not your thing, they offer plenty of other items on the menu, I quite often get chicken nuggets or jumbo sausage and chips, still tasty. Overall a local establishment to be proud of, just a shame it's closed on weekends.
