Cafe Metro in Wigan

This is possibly the best English Breakfast I have had for a long time. Not what I was expecting at all. Great portions, lovely people and service. If you like a hearty breakfast this is the place to eat. Enjoy!

Great value breakfast from a lovely family run, traditional cafe. Nothing too much trouble, lots of choice, very popular, will definitely return - pancakes mint!

Manchester centre is now full of expensive eateries or fast food takeaway joints - and no-where really to go for just a decent no frills meal. I often stop here on a Wednesday as their Cottage Pie is genuinely the best comfort food in the world. Today was a rare one for me on a Thursday but I had Irish Stew - again, really good comfort food. It's never mad busy nor is it mad expensive. There is no-where else like it in Manchester centre. It is what it is - the sliced white bread with the stew went with it just right!

Visited Manchester on a very busy Bank Holiday and struggled to find an eating establishment without very long waiting times . Then we found Cafe Metro and the place was practically empty. Alarm bells should've been ringing at that point! Ordered a grilled chicken ciabbata sandwich and a Minute Steak with mushroom and fries. A pot of tea for 1 and a Latte which is advertised as Lavazza. I drink a lot of coffee and my latte was truly awful in every conceivable way and most certainly NOT Lavazza. To say the place was empty,we waited an awfully long time for our food. There was another couple seated near us....2 obnoxious women who spent the whole time arguing and swearing at each other while one of them kept using the serviettes to stem the blood from her recently fitted belly button piercing. The dining area is depressing and dimly lit.Very tired and dated decor and absolutely zero ambience. When the food finally got served, my partner thought the chicken sandwich was OK but had a distinct taste of the oil it had been cooked in. My plate of food was really quite dreadful. Bland Oven chips,tasteless sautéed mushrooms and the worst steak I've been presented with for many a year.Fatty, full of gristle and overcooked to the point where it was almost impossible to cut. Total bill came to £23 which I felt was poor value for money and we will definitely not revisit anytime soon.

This café is located very close to the Arndale shopping centre and has a much larger interior than it appears from the outside. We enjoyed coffee here which is very reasonably priced. It is also very convenient for the main Manchester bus station Shudehill Interchange. We waited here until it was time for the free city bus to arrive.

Been twice before a few years ago. Staff changed went in & waitress couldn't understand us properly ! Meal came, my friends Steak sandwich was dry as a bone & Steak was rubbery My baked potato was slightly hard & dry, as was the tuna & sweetcorn !!! Had to ask for butter & sachets of mayonnaise to make it remotely edible !!!! Desert, a cheesecake for my friend, bland & stale & my scone was burnt, hot 🔥 & solid. Called the owner over, stuck my knife in it & said its solid, can't eat that, he said, eat as much as you can & I won't charge you for it ?? Told him to take it away, I couldn't swallow it. He didn't charge me for it but said usually people ask for the sauce for the Steak?? There was an apple pie 🥧 in the cabinate, the crust was burnt & looked solid, so said so, he laughed & said he'd pour custard on it if I wanted it !!! Needs a visit to investigate, not setting foot in there again !!!! Disgusting !

Called in for breakfast off the cuff. Wish I hadn’t bothered. Staff miserable and look like they hate their jobs. Good average at best and not great portions. Clearly just a case of taking your money and providing a poor service for it!! Went to the toilet and it’s disgustingly dirty and falling apart. The cubicle was all taped up and the sink full of bits of everything including human hairs! Taps dirty and floor was dirty and slippy. They staff and management clearly never clean it and don’t care about the standards. Visit somewhere else if you want food. Never again.

over the past month I have been into Metro for food and a hot drink on my first occasion I reported that the men's toilets were very dangerous the floor is falling into the cellar and the toilet is leaning over. I was told its the landlords responsibility and the person just walked away. two weeks later i went in with my family that where visiting , my sister went to the toilet and found that they were filthy no toilet roll and the toilet was full of blue hand towels and poo. I went to the men's again and found them in a filthy condition. on paying at the counter I informed the man taking payment, he said once again it was up to the landlord to deal with repairs. I reminded him that it was their responsibility to keep the toilets up to hygiene standards , showed no interest. to say they have been in business for over 20 yrs here , the place is falling apart , management need to take a look at the overall business details.

Sh*t service and cold food, took 40 minutes for a panini and looks nothing like the photo so disappointed

Pleasent atmosphere on arrival, helpful staff and a 'hot' cooked breakfast. Waited a short while before our meals arrived and it was clear the food had just been cooked for our breakfast as it was piping hot, toast was still warm and again our hot drinks remained hot through our meal. Where sometimes items go cold quickly after being in a container or under a hot plate, that was not the case here. Will definitely return.

Stopped here for a hot brunch. Nice food, good selection. Good value for money. It's a 'greasy spoon' cafe.

Was popping along to the printworks and this place was on the way so thought id stop by for breakfast. The all day breakfast was very nice, compliments to the cook and service was fast. Overall would recommend, staff went through the motions and are pleasent enough but felt like the service could have been more welcoming and pleasant.

This is a fantastic little find, most places will not let parties of 6 people in to dine at the moment during covid despite the govt saying that this is allowed however cafe metro was accommodating and the food and service was amazing and very reasonable priced. Fantastic for breakfasts
