Very small amount of Mould on my barn cake sorry but that’s disgusting . Luckily I saw it as I was just about to eat it . I did look at a way of messaging privately but not able to so I would suggest a fb page and messenger on it because I would rather send private message. It does then throw doubt on the rest of the food for me.

Great quality food and service. Reasonable price too. I would definitely recommend it. They now accept card payments.

£7.90 for chips pudding and gravy and a large sausage seperate.i think that is expensive,does anyone else.paid it first time but won't be paying that price again.

Very disappointed after tonight's purchase. Supposed to be family fish box .. well it wasn't in the box but want bothered about that . Both fish portions was very small and soggy. Supposed to be XL chips and got 2 small size trays which wasn't full and the sauces was alot smaller than previous boxes. All items was very bland so not sure what's going on but the quality and quantity was no where near as what we have previously experienced from this chippy. This would usually feed 4 of us but tonight it was only for 3 and as the portions was so much smaller I even had to make my daughter extra food so I may as well have saved money and cooked at home. Which I will be doing in the future.

Staff friendly and served quickly but I think too quickly as the chips was undercooked parts mushy and part raw and fish had a very weird strong taste only thing edible was the curry sauce but unfortunately nothing to put it on as it was inedible. Just under £20 for just 2 meals which only the bin enjoyed

Gidlow Plaice chippy states open until 8pm online Arrived there at 19.40 tonight 18.05.2022 to find staff sweeping up and being told that they were shut I have to say though, the chips when available are really really good

Nearly always get our chippy chips, battered sausage, meals etc. from here when we're having a treat evening. Shop itself is very clean, or we wouldn't step inside the door. Mostly, the food is always very tasty ... There have been a few brows raised a couple of times with regards to portions or lots of bitty chips or over fried chips/battered fish. It hasn't happened alot but I suppose everyone has a bad day. We've been eating here for about 2 years'ish. Tried quiet a few chippers in Wigan. Happiest with this one.

Ive only had chips and gravy from this place a handful of times so take my review from that stance. The chips and gravy is okay. The chips are too hard at times. And the gravy is too watery. The most powerful taste is the vinegar they throw on.

Poor..... lunchtime chips hard, very hard, if I had been a denture wearer they'd be hanging out now...the teeth I refair to...🤕..Fish something they had started cooking at 8am...and removed at 12.15pm....shocking.

Best fish and chips in Wigan. Crispy batter and good quality fish. Chips tasty and crisp on the outside and fluffy in the middle.

Visited after watching a YouTube video. Well worth a 15 mile round trip. The chips were as good as any and the fish was nice and chewy with a crispy batter.

It was excellent value, the fish was really good and the chips were some of the best I have ever had, and on a par with Toffs or Muswell hill and the Seashell in lisson grove Marylebone London. Great friendly and charming service. Well worth the 18 mile round trip!

Very good fish and chips - we had the fish boxes which are excellent value and easily feed a family of four. Would definitely go here again.

Gidlow plaice was fantastic. Family fish box for £13.50, 2 large fish, 2 large sausage, extra large chips, 3 sides and a 2ltr bottle of pop. All fresh and extremely tasty. Would give more stars if I could.

Chips tasted like was cooked in old oil, gravy was like water, wanted peas got pie wet which is not to everyone's liking, pudding was greasy, £12 for 2 simple meals absolutely shocking

Got the fish share box today and I've got to say its the best 13.50 I've spent in a long time,I'd recommend to anyone,really nice and will deffo be going again,10/10 😋

Good clean chippy. Yet the portions are not its greatest selling point. A meal for 4 only just lived up to its title. With the help of bread and butter with some home sourced afters.

Amazing food, seen loads of recommendations on Wigan food reviews and decided it's time to try it, deffo be going back again.

Chips serving is enough for two. Ask for light batter on fish if you prefer. It's cooked fresh while you wait.

The best place to get your fish and chips! The staff are amazing, always looking after their customers in the most friendly and pleasant manner. The food is always fresh and served with a smile and a happy look. The quality is fantastic and we will always go back! In fact, there isn't another place I would go for fish in Wigan, except when they are closed. Then I have no other choice but to go somewhere else. We've being going there for months and my son enjoys going there as well. Absolutely worth your time and money!

Great chippie constantly churning out that great British Fish Chips Mushy peas .

Discovered this place last year after moving here. They make the BEST fish and chips, honestly! The batter is light and crispy and they don’t over-batter the fish to hide the contents like some chippies do. The fish are a good size and beautifully white and tasty. Mushy peas are fab too! Staff great. Yes, there’s often a queue but that’s not surprising as they’re so good!

Asked for smacks at teatime on Saturday and told ‘we have no smacks’. So you don’t have potatoes, or you can’t be bothered to make the smacks? I think I know the answer to that one. Will take my business elsewhere from now on

I regularly go here, due to how many chips you get! Other fish and chip shows give you no where near as much food. The only thing i can fault is that there isn't enough staff cooking. The queue is so long to the point where it gets very frustrating. But the food is good and worth the price you pay.

Refused service 25 mins before closing. Didn't even ask what we wanted. Wont be going back.

Not often I buy chips but today I had the urge. Gidlow plaice was a good choice. Nice chips and sausage with gravy and a side order of a “smack”. Very nice

The fish isn’t cod or haddock and is a cheaper alternative. Curry sauce has lumpy bits in it. If the owner isn’t in the local girls panic when there is a bit of a queue and decide to serve up raw chips. When the owner is in he serves up good chips. Food standard rating is 1 out of 5 which means it’s filthy. Check fsa rating.

This is my favourite chippy ever. The food is always lovely, served quickly and well priced. Parking is available at the front too which is always useful. Nice big portions and always full up afterwards.

Estar localmente durante los últimos 20 años he utilizado el Gidlow Chippy sobre una base regular, pero después de mi visita de hoy no vamos a volver o recomendar este chips ya a nadie. Con chippy estar al otro lado de la calle de Tesco Express y tarta tienda galloways más adelante hay varias opciones de comida. Hoy me apetecía un mezcla de Chippy y utilizando Galloways. Por desgracia, porque sólo necesitaba un artículo del "fish and chips" para completar la comida, el propietario no estaba impresionado con mi compra y claro cuando me fui por sus comentarios sarcástico cuando me fui. Después de ser sorprendidos por este, volví en la comida y nos dio vuelta y salimos. El hecho de que el "fish and chips" estaba casi vacío no da el derecho para que la frustración se encaucen en el cliente que paga. No entraremos en el lugar otra vez o recomendarlo a nadie nuevo.

El viernes 12 de Noviembre mi marido dijo que iba a traer algo bueno de vuelta para la cena. Pensé que había ido a los carniceros, o supermercado. Esperé, 40 minutos, pero valió la pena la espera. Él llegó en la realización de comida caliente. Él había ido a Gidlow, la venda la solla en la cima de nuestra calle. Él trajo el pescado más maravilloso que he probado jamás, y el bateador era muy ligero y crujiente. Había patatas, guisantes, salsa de curry y, pero, como dicen, el pescado fue la guinda del pastel. Maravilloso, sin duda volveremos. Recomiendo este taller a cualquiera xxx

Been here a few times now.Never disappointed with the freshly cooked food.From fish and chips to chips, baby's yed, peas and gravy.Do for me.

We'd heard great things about this chippy, and finally got there yesterday.The chips were good, hence 3 stars, but the fish was dry and the batter hard and flat, almost as if it had been reheated.

We go to Gidlow Plaice about once or twice a month and can't fault the food or service. Always a good meal and good value.

The fish is always excellent and the portions quite large. Quite often has special offers on. Mon and Tuesday this week everything was half price. Be rude not to take up the offer to saveme cooking just for myself,

Good chips, large fish, friendly staff, always open when you need them. What more do you want from a local English chippy.

Undercooked chips, overcooked fish, small portions and very over priced - maybe to pay for their new shop facelift! Staff didn't have hair tied back looking unhygienic and their customer service was as unappetising as their food.
