We were introduced to Dam house by a friend a few months ago and we love coming here. We had breakfast and dinner previously but today we came for Sunday dinner which is £15 for main and dessert. Not only just excellent value, the food was excellent and home made. Better than a lot of pubs also. They also offer wine and beer. Our new favourite place and it’s a lovely building too. Cannot recommend enough!

Only intended to have coffee and cake but ended up having a full lunch. Beautiful historic setting near a duck pond certainly added to the ambience. Good home made food with a variety of choices from wraps and sandwiches though to meals, cakes and puddings. Friendly service and reasonably priced for good portioned sizes. Would certainly go again.

Just lovely. Meeting friends for coffee? I'm not sure there's many places as nice as Damhouse. Breakfast? Fabulous. Lunch? Delicious. Coffee? Spot on. The staff (ladies usually in my experience) as just always so so lovely. They always make sure you have everything you need. If you need to make sure your poached eggs don't make your toast soggy, don't you worry, they'll make sure they are served separately for you! Literally nothing is too much for these guys. Kindness is everywhere in here. A little gem in our area.

I've been here a few times with family and also for work purposes. Prices have gone up but with energy costs.etc this does not surprise me. Dam House is usually busy but there are always spare tables both inside and out. My Mum wasn't happy with her pot of tea but I pointed out to her that she hadn't let it brew long enough! Hubby loved his strawberry gateau and my coffee was fine. Mum had a turkey sandwich with salad which she seemed to enjoy. The only criticism is the sour faces on older members of staff, is it too much trouble to smile?

I visited Dam house for the kings coronation afternoon tea with my mother in law as it was also her birthday. Having visiting dam house many times previously to say I was disappointed is an understatement. On arrival we were greeted by staff and after a short while the afternoon tea was brought to the table. The sandwiches looked and tasted very dry as if they had been stood for a good while. The cakes were dismal in fact they were tiny slithers of cake apostle to individual portions they appeared more like left overs. Unlike other afternoon teas were you can choose from lattes, cappuccinos etc we were only able to have tea or filter coffee. Compared with other afternoon teas I have had this was by far the worst and definitely not value for money at £18pp. Before writing this review I did try to contact the manager on numerous occasions via email which I had previously corresponded through to book the afternoon tea, however she has failed to respond or acknowledge my concerns/ disappointment on all occasions

Been going here for many years but I have noticed a change recently which is not for the better. Their seems to be an atmosphere amongst the staff. I noticed a manager who seemed to be somewhat threatening and the staff seemed to be unsettled. Just wondering if that’s why I have been seeing new staff recently.

A lovely little tearoom which serves home made food, the only thing that really puts me off is seeing people eating a meal wearing baseball caps, (a pet hate of mine). My rant about manners over, the tearoom has a varied menu, mid price, in nice surroundings, well worth a visit.

We’ve eaten breakfast here a few times recently and we like the food, setting and the dining room itself. The last visit was pretty repulsive in one respect when the female waitress came over with our breakfasts whilst chewing a big mouthful of food. Really? Yuk. I’ve never seen anyone do this before whilst waiting on…ever. A sight that is unlikely to leave us anytime soon. In fact I’ve left this review for over two full months, but it still appalls. Reminded me a bit of the Dame, when I was in a pantomime as a kid. Rest of visit and food were spot on hence the 4* review.

The Tearoom is for families or anyone, it's perfect for a place to chat, they have a mini breakfast which is enough for me, and also a big plate filling breakfast. breakfast finishes around 11.45, and the menu changes for afternoon teas, sandwiches, soup, cakes etc. the coffee is good, mine's a large Latte! The staff are a mixture of young and old and very pleasant people, just ask for what you want, it's never a problem to any of them, you order at the counter so don't sit at your table and wait ok? The quicker you order the better as people may come in after you and order before you. It's not expensive for the nice surroundings, and the upkeep of this old grade 11 building is essential. There is a nice walk around the small dam outside, benches are everywhere, and duckfood can be bought at the tearoom, your children will love it. When it's a dry day, you may want to sit outside in the courtyard, where the same meals are served. there are bowls of water there for you pets. I am not connected to anyone there just think it is a great little place.

Booked for the Luxury afternoon tea. Had to wait over 35 minutes for it to arrive. The food itself was good if not spectacular. The main issue was with having to keep requesting cutlery and crockery. Have a brew. No teaspoons. Get served salad. No fork only a knife. Only got 1 plate which got covered with the salad dressing. What do you eat the scone off? TBH I was disappointed.

On our first visit to the tearoom we was approached by a rude waitor. The food was nice but customer service was poor. We felt that certain members of staff, including an older blonde lady with glasses were purposely trying to be awkward. This is off putting and custom will be lost in the future if the tea room chooses to employ staff that don't seem to want to work there. We will not be returning again.

It’s been a long time since I have been somewhere with customer service as poor as Damhouse Tearoom. On arrival this morning my mother struggled to open the door, as we peered through the glazed door three staff members stood at the counter not doing anything, they just watched. One of the other customers came and opened the door explaining it sticks a little. We sat down at the only remaining table, trying to catch the eye of one of the members of staff by the counter to establish if it was table service or if we had to order at the counter as there were no signs or menus on the table. After five minutes of being ignored we decided to just have a hot drink and I went over to the counter. I asked the lady at the till if they had any milk alternatives, soya or coconut milk to which I received the short answer of no. It has been a very long time since I have been somewhere that doesn’t cater for all dietary requirements. I went on to order a latte for my mother and a black coffee for myself and I can say they have never heard the phrase ‘service with a smile’ at Damhouse Tearoom. We didn’t have to wait too long for our drinks even though they tried to give us another tables order first. The customer service was non-existent with staff who looked like they didn’t want to be there and the decor was dated (and not in a good way) with plastic patterned tablecloths. The visit was such a big disappointment and not a place we will revisit. If you want a nice friendly tearoom, in a historical setting then Poppins at Smithills Hall in Bolton is a much better place to visit.

Called here on a wet Wednesday morning and were greeted with the terse question of ‘have you booked?’ and being told we couldn’t get food! It was just me and a friend out for coffee and despite there being free tables when we stated that we didn’t want food we were then ushered hurriedly to the coffee lounge with the strict instructions to tell the server that we only wanted drinks! Strange way to conduct a business! Having said that the coffee lounge was totally deserted and the young man was extremely pleasant and helpful even coming over to offer us second cups. Won’t be visiting again anytime soon though!

We expected them to be busy at nearly 3pm on a sunny autumn Sunday afternoon but there was plenty of space and plenty of food available. The tea room is run by a team of volunteers who were welcoming and easily accommodated us with space for a high chair. The food soon arrived including our afternoon tea for two. We did have to remind the staff about a couple of missing items but this was soon remedied and apologies were made. The food is good, the prices typical for the menu offered and the service usually prompt. As the food is cooked to order in very busy times a wait might be expected. We often eat here, either for their excellent English Breakfast or for a light lunch. Highly recommended for its high standards and unique ambience.

Attended the dog show on sarurday, and went for lunch in the tea room. Ordered roast gammon and roast beef sandwichs, got thin slice of cheap boiled ham, and even cheaper slice of roast beef, expected something a bit betting for the price.

Called in here for tea and cake. A very charming tea room, lots of dark oak, very English. Service was prompt. I had the chocolate cake and my partner had the toffee cake. Both were very rich and quite delicious. I'm also told they do a very good breakfast! They should issue a map to the toilets - you have to negotiate several doors to reach them!

We went here to meet with family that live nearby who know the area. The house itself is nice and has a function room. The tea room is a little small so when it's full it got quite noisy. However the staff were fantastic, they couldn't do enough to help us. We all went for lunch and between us we had sandwiches and jacket potatoes, all of which were very generous portions and were tasty. It roughly cost us between £5-7 per person (depending on if they ordered a pudding!) and there were six of us in the party.

As a family of 5 for a treat we had breakfast here today . Its a lovely venue and local to us which is nice as we can walk it there & back .The food was lovely , the service was good but the food took qutie a while to prepare . I would go again but feel the pricing could have been slightly lower as its nearly £7 for a full english , our total bill was just shy off £40 ! .Give it a go and see what you think , worth a visit if your in the area .

I have been a few times now to this lovely little tea room, the food is very nice and the cakes really delicious and you get a huge pot of tea. The only let down is the length of time they take to prepare and serve the food even when it's just something basic. The last time we went we only ordered tea and cakes, the tea was brought out fairly quickly but no cakes so we asked for them and waited another 5 minutes and then had to ask for them again, as they are in the chiller display next to where you pay they could have been handed to us immediately, the waitress that day was a lot older than the usual waitresses and also struggled to use the till so maybe she just isn't up to the job. Other than that it is a lovely place to visit.

This is a lovely place in lovely surroundings. Usually very busy so service can be slow.Usual things like cheese on toast, baked potatoes with various fillings, soup and sandwiches and a specials board. All beautifully presented. Women outnumber the men in customers, small groups of them having lunch together.Nice atmosphere. You can arrange a tour of the house on certain days.

Do not waste your time or money here. If any business requires an insight into shocking 'customer service' - visit this place. It is an appalling example of how 'not' to treat your customers! Rude, miserable staff and that includes the blonde Manager who was sat at her desk staring into space as we promptly left the building. Clearly she too has no interest in this venue....or its customers either.I met with a client for a meeting here this week, despite warnings of this place 'going down the pan' and now wish I had listened to some of these disgruntled local customers, who have also had similar experiences over the last couple of years. What a crying shame that this place has gone to the dogs - it is such a beautiful building tainted by the people managing it.

Im not normally the type to write reviews but after seeing the previous review i felt as a longtime customer at damhouse that it is not a true representation of the place as i and my friends and family have experienced personally.I also visited the Damhouse Tearoom on saturday the 9th of May with friends at around 1pm. We had to wait 10 mins for a table as it was so full we were offered the coffee lounge but i was eager to show one of my friends (now also a customer for life) how charming and pleasant the Tearoom is, we were sat down in relatively no time on one of the window tables, which i love, and went up to place our order, there was a queue and the place was clearly full so a wait time was expected, we placed our order and were told food was on a 35-40 minute wait but i didnt mind as i could see it was full and was enjoying the buzzing atmosphere. No longer than 20 minutes later our complete food order was in front of us which was a pleaseant surprise as we could see how hard both the kitchen and the waitresses were all working, they clearly had a lot to do. We had a lovely afternoon and will most certainly be returning again soon for the afternoon tea which i saw the table next to us having and cant wait to try.As a longtime customer i have seen the transformation the place has made over the past 4 years from how it was to how it is now and its almost unrecognisable from 4 years ago when i first visited the Tearooms, and its such a shame that the minority of people feel the need to over exaggerate as this place is certainly one of Astleys hidden gems.

Normally I wouldn't leave a review I just like to be nosy and read them all but after reading a recent review for the same day I visited I felt I had to. My family and I visited the tea room on Saturday 9th may we pre booked a table as we are regulars and knew it would be very busy at the weekend. When we arrived the tea room was full every table was occupied there were even people sat in the area outside. We ordered our food and was told by the polite girl behind the till there would be a 20-30 min wait due to the amount of people that had ordered before us. We didn't have a problem with this as we weren't in a rush we were out for a nice family meal. Our drinks arrived shortly after placing our order and our meals weren't too far behind. The food was hot flavor some and delicious. The girls who were waiting on didn't have a minute as they were so busy dealing with customers needs and they were doing a great job. I could not disagree more with the lady who left the previous review if you only have 45 minutes for lunch and you are told you will be waiting this long then why not go elsewhere instead of leaving what could end up being a very damaging review. I visit the tearoom at least twice a month and will continue to do so as they are doing a superb job!!!!!!!!!!

I visited the tea room on Saturday 9th May as I was taking part in a course running in the same building.. We were given 45 minutes for lunch which I thought was an ample amount of time to order a meal, sadly I was mistaken!! It was busy but not completely full so I started to order my meal which was sausage and beans on toast with a pot of tea.. The young waitress explained it would be a 20 minute wait for food which Didn't really bother me as it was busy.. Just as my order was about to be sent to the kitchen this very rude old waitress entered into the tea room exclaiming that there would be a 45 MINUTE!!!!!!! Wait for food. Now we are talking here about a basic cafe menu nothing which would require such a wait, I then had to cancel my order as I only had that amount of time for my break, no apology or anything just a 'right ok' from the young waitress, I continued to have a pot of tea as I was quite thirsty. As I was drinking my tea I noticed a lot of chaos coming from the kitchen which was embarrassing to be honest, as well the three young waitresses were just stood chatting which didn't look professional at all. The icing on top of the cake was when people who were behind me in the queue who had ordered food recieved there food within 20 minutes, I was sat there hungry, angry and totally disgusted!! No apology or anything.. I am returning in June to take part on another course and I will most defiantly NOT BE COMING HERE!!! Absolutely ridiculous!! I would be embarrassed if this was my tea room and it was being run like that!!! It needs sorting or there will be no more custom!!!!!!!!!

This tea room is located in the old Leigh Hospital known as Dam House The location is a delightful unexpected idle located not far from the busy east Lancashire rd. ( the main artery rd from Liverpool to Manchester ) The Location has been saved by active members of the local community and their efforts have resulted in the maintenance and upkeep of this amazing building and surrounding ancient small woodland The food here is plain but fresh, plentiful, delicious and served with a smile. The cakes and deserts all looked amazing and I struggled to choose. I will be returning

We used to visit the tearooms on a weekly basis but after an unpleasant visit12months ago we took our custom elsewhere.Last Friday 10th April , we decided to return to see if it had improved. The service was poor and the attitude of the staff especially a lady whose name I think was Keeley was appalling. The language that was used in the kitchen area over some disagreement between Keeley and other staff members was totally unacceptable and very embarrassing for the customers. Things certainly haven't improved here and someone needs to address the situation before the reputation of the tearooms is ruined. I for one won't be coming back !!

I visited here a few weeks ago and was shown to the coffee lounge, which was lovely. I visited the tea rooms on sun 29th March, well what can I say??? Absolutely discussting , I waited 50 mins for my breakfast and I over heard a lady complaining she waited over 35 mins for a tea cake. I'm not sure what was going on but I would be ashamed if this was my business, I saw at least 4 tables being compensated with free drinks. In the week I could recommend but at weekends stay clear. What a total dissapointment !!! It may be a long time before I visit again, if ever.!!!

Have had lunch here on several occasions and not been disappointed. This is an "old fashioned" tea room giving it a lovely friendly atmosphere. The staff are all very friendly and helpful, they cannot do enough for you. Whether it is a light lunch, or afternoon tea the food is lovely. You can taper the cost to your own budget dependant on what you order, they will also accommodate slight changes to their menu at your request. Well worth a visit with friends as you can enjoy your food and have a good catch up on everyone's news, you are not rushed in any way. A short stroll round the grounds is also very pleasant.

I visited dam house today, well what can I say!!!!! What a lovely building, we went for lunch but the main tea rooms was very loud and busy. We was then shown to the new coffee lounge, wow!!! What a lovely little extra place to visit. It was so relaxing and peaceful, the food was lovely. But what I was more impressed with was the service, there was a lovely young lady who could not do enough for us. She was polite, helpful and a lovely lady to speak to. I would recommend you visit the tucked away coffee lounge for a calming, peaceful meal and great service.

It's such a shame I used to love it here but I think it is not a patch on how it was a few years ago, the tables seemed dirty, service was rubbish ,took forever, getting orders wrong, food served on dirty plates! The cakes which once was fresh are now frozen (seen a one coming out the freezer) and the one I ordered was disgusting. Will be avoiding this place in future.

Booked for a bottomless brunch as a group for a birthday we went early to put balloons on a table when we went back for the brunch we had been moved upstairs to a dark room were no one else was with no one in the bar all the entertainment was going on downstairs felt like we had just been shoved out the way they had either overbooked or accepting walk in when they were already full. After being left ignored upstairs for 20 mins we had to ask for someone to take our drinks order and we got back what you here for I didn’t no you were up here! 30 mins after our order being taken a member of our party complained the reply was we are just arranging done complimentary wine for your table (this must be the wine he had just walked in with in a Tesco carrier bag !) and none of our party even drink wine! We were all that annoyed with waiting we got our money back and went and spent it on cocktails in weatherspoons! The whole experience was a shambles and spoiled what was meant to be a birthday day out with friends. That was my first and last visit to hedera and i definitely wouldn’t recommend it to anyone!!

Was once a great place, but now, along with the accompanied Premier Inn has decided to stiff the uk public by accomodating immigrants of fighting age, no families, just able bodied men. And closed the pub to simply cater for said immigrants from the hotel. Something is seriously wrong.

The coffee was not right but it changed it for us immediately and the food was great.Mum really enjoyed her lunch and commented on how nice the waitress had been. I was also given a Loyalty card as mum does not live far from the restaurant so will be returning with her. Thankyou Aliana!
