We booked a table for Sunday dinner, and knowing we were booking a later slot (due to toddler nap time) I specifically left a note regarding our party, and then confirmed our booking. On arrival it felt slightly chaotic and we were shown to an unset table (admittedly we were 10mins early) it took a while for our orders to be taken (we were never brought a menu and there wasnât one on the table, so I took one from a neighbouring table) and it also took a long time for a highchair to arrive (again specified in the booking). I would happily have overlooked all of this - however, once our dinners arrived, it became obvious that they had pretty much run out of food. There was no cauliflower cheese, and no roast potatoes. We had to ask why these were missing to be told theyâd run out. If we had been told when ordering Iâd have understood. But to just hope we didnât notice isnât appropriate, especially when theyâre a key part of a Sunday roast. We asked if we could have extra yorkshires instead but they didnât have any of those either. They brought out some fried rosti as a way of excusing the lack, but only after we had asked why we were missing items and they came as we were all finishing. I could maybe understand this if we were walk in customers - but we had prebooked so surely werenât a surprise⊠The roast here isnât cheap and for significant parts to be missing, without explanation or any attempt to replace them left us all feeling deflated (and a little hungryâŠ) there was no sincere apology, and nothing knocked of the bill (again not necessarily something I would expect but when youâre only served half of your dinner why should you pay full price?) Overall a very underwhelming experience and the only thing the waiting staff could say was âhopefully we will have it next timeâ unfortunately I very much doubt there will be a next time.

No 'arf.

What a lovely place, the food was amazing and plenty of choice. Staff very friendly and helpful. We had 3 courses each, and plenty of beer which was also very good. And the bill came to less than ÂŁ120. We also stayed overnight in the motorhome, a very peaceful night it was. Highly recommended

Very pleased to report that this shop has reopened after a long closure. I got a substantial and tasty cod and chips here. Last time I got a sausage and chips - they stop cooking fish when getting near closing times, and when I arrived at 18:50 sausage and chips was the only dish on offer. Be careful of restricted opening hours, particularly early closing times in the evenings. Edit - since I updated the hours last week, they have changed again and the shop now closes at 7:00pm on Fridays.

What a place. We were greeted warmly at the bar and taken to our table. The dining room was simple with lots of rustic charm, and the menu had enough choice for both of us. The garlic cream mushrooms were extremely good and it was just the right amount for me. My wife had the gammon steak with egg and chips, and she said the chips were the best she had ever had. I had the Veggie parmesan which was more than enough and the salad was beautiful and the dressing was lovely. We were offered dessert but had to say no as we were so full from dinner! However the desserts are all homemade and looked lovely. What really struck us about this place was how nice the staff were, nothing was too much trouble. We would highly recommend the Water Wheel, and will definitely be back!
