Virgos Cafe in Redcar and Cleveland

Very sorry it no longer exists. A shame. It was a great cafe & the prawn sandwiches were epic. Generous portions. Delicious & filling. We always thought the evening menu looked so tempting too, with imaginative options. Coming here was always a treat.

Had the pleasure of sunday lunch here. The service was impeccable, friendly and welcoming. Both of our sunday dinners were lovely, the cauliflower cheese was a real highlight for me. I thoroughly recommend trying the Truffled Hog

We made a day time visit for coffee and cake. Both were very good. Delightful owber/ staff. The evening bistro food menu looked really good.

The food was not as good as I thought it would be. I ordered garlic mushrooms but I couldn't taste the garlic in the sauce. The server's were polite and friendly. The price of the meal was average.

Had Sunday Lunch. Excellent we all loved it. Only problem is getting booked at popular times, so think a little ahead, as its not a massive place. Third time we have been for Sunday lunch in the last 18 months, and the standard always high.

Very warm, welcoming Bistro with a great atmosphere and great staff. My wife and I popped into Virgo's earlier today and as I have been Gluten-free for 8 years find it quite difficult ordering from certain menus. I asked if I just have 2 fried eggs on gluten free bread. What was delivered was the best gluten free bread I have ever tasted in 8 years as they can sometimes taste like cardboard. My wife said her meal was delicious and I would highly recommend Virgo's Bistro. Also, the staff were very helpful and polite. If I lived near the town Virgo's would be my weekly go to place

From start to finish it was amazing. We went on an evening. Staff were lovely and attentive from the minute you walked in. Checked up on us often & brought more drinks efficiently. Service was quick for our food too. Loved the starters, very tasty & filling. Then the mains were outstanding, never had such amazing fish. I had hake & my partner had the chicken souvlaki. He loved his too. Will 100% be returning as it was an amazing place someone recommend.

Best eatery in my opinion in saltburn The Sunday lunches are outstanding. Food produce great quality, hot and very tasty The staff are amazing and friendly and can't do enough to accommodate you. I Would recommend booking in advance as tables book up quickly. Highly recommend a must do if staying in or around saltburn.

What a gem. I know when the food is excellent when my partner has absolutely no complaints about one thing or another and allows me to savour the food put in front of me. The menu is varied but very reasonably priced. Service is attentive but not in your face. The venue is intimate and perfect for a date night.

Came for Sunday Lunch as recommended by a friend. Its a smallish Cafe but comfortable seating. Could only get a booking at 2.45 pm as very busy which says it all really. Staff excellent, lots of the customers were obviously regulars. Lunch exceptional at a reasonable price. I had the Pork which came with Crackling, Yorkshire, Roast Potato, Mashed Potato, Swede, Cauliflower and some beans/Mange Tout which was really good.My wife had Lamb (at a supplement) which was very tender. Good portions. Even though I was full really I had desert of Mango/Pineapple crumble & Custard as never tried that combination before. I also really enjoyed that. We are already making plans to go again.

Surprised this Cafe was not full. We called in for Breakfast, full English was superb as was Eggs Benedict. Lovely fresh bread. Excellent service

Really disappointed with this meal. Ordered fillet steak with peppercorn sauce when it was brought to the table the steak was swimming in a white/creamy looking sauce. A massive put off to start with. Not only was it unappetising in colour, it was tasteless and over heavy with cream. After checking i had the correct dish, it was removed and the sauce put into a sauce boat, which in my opinion is how it should have been presented. The steak itself, considering it was fillet, was dry and tasteless, with no seasoning as was lacking also on the vegetables, although these were cooked nicely, they just lacked seasoning. Staff did not ask as we were if we enjoyed the meal, as I think they knew already.we didn’t bother with dessert or coffee and my dogs have 1/2 my steak for their supper. Had some lovely meals in Saltburn, but this was not one and very expensive to be so disappointing. Also no air con so very hot atmosphere.

Nice place, friendly staff... But my cappuccino was bland. I'm not sure if it was just a Lavazza coffee thing. My wife enjoyed her latte though...

Ventured out to Virgos after far too long an absence from our previous visit. We weren’t to be disappointed. Service was fantastic, with a really warm and friendly greeting and the food was even better. There was an option for a 2/3 course set menu as well as further options on the board with the option to mix and match. Opted for the scallops to start and these were the best I have tasted anywhere. Cooked to perfection and presented delightfully as was the pitta bread and Greek dips that the wife chose. For main we both went for a fillet steak which, again, were both cooked perfectly to our taste and served with piping hot vegetables and potatoes. A desert of crème brûlée finished the meal which was undoubtedly the best I’ve ever tasted and we left with full bellies and a good taste in the mouth. Would highly recommend and we will be back soon.

As a party of six we visited Virgos on Saturday 19 August. The food was delicious, the staff were really friendly and we all thoroughly enjoyed the evening. We will definitely be back.

Excellent food (Halloumi was made perfectly!) and lovely place with great service! The 2 ladies managing the place were very kind and contributed greatly to the welcoming atmosphere. We recommend without hesitation. Visit the place e.g. to take a break from hiking the Cleveland Way like we did - it's a treat!

Went for the Summer Special Menu, Greek themed and all cooked perfectly. The chicken gyros an absolute highlight. Highly recommend. Brilliant service too.

I visited Virgo's last night and will definitely be returning! It truly is a gem of Saltburn. Plenty to choose from on the menu and the specials board - the hardest part was deciding what to order! Everything was exceptional from the moment we stepped in; the ambience, the service we received from Jan who took great care of us, to the outstanding food. Absolutely amazing and I can't wait to go again.

I was going back to the rrailway station and thought i would pop in for some lunch before my train,im glad i did,i was greeted with a warm welcome,the surroundings in the cafe are very clean,and well presented with lunchtime menus on the table and a specials board,i opted for pie of the day which was corned beef +onion with potatoes veg gravy,you can always tell when a pie is homemade,the crust was delicious,the pie filled with corned beef and onion delicious,the veg came seperate and was well presented,and an extra gravy boat which is always welcome,this dish was delicious,washed down with a nice pot of tea,i would like to visit again but maybe on an evening to try the dinner menu,the staff where great,so friendly and welcoming,i will certainly be coming back,and i would recommend anyone visisting saltburn to visit Virgos,and its ideal for the station,5mins walk. My daughter and I have recently started to lunch frequently at Virgos on Saturdays, during the past year. Any regular already knows the special qualities that Virgos offers but for the newcomer, I wanted to see if I can persuade you to try it out for yourself, as never has the issue of value for money been more relevant. For me, Virgos offers what can be best described as traditional charm. The decor and location helps, as does the very personal service you receive. The team are open to flexibility and are primed to go out of their way to ensure the customer has the best experience possible. The menu is pitched just about perfect - not too big to be overwhelming nor too small to be lacking suitable choice. They also include specials which also keeps things fresh and vibrant, especially for those that visit more than once.

A lovely place to go. We go after yoga on a morning for breakfast,it's a great place to go, the food and service are always excellent. A very friendly and welcoming place.

Very friendly staff and comfortable venue. We went for breakfast and both had “smashed avo on toast”. However it wasn’t smashed, it was grated - never seen this before! Would be glad not to see this again either - texture was unpleasant. It was also rather dry - probably not ripe enough, and little or no lemon juice or olive oil. No chilli either. On the plus side the toast was nice!

We have been visiting Saltburn a couple of times a a year for many years. Virgos is one of our go to places to eat. We have always had a great experience here. The food and service has been consistently good. The steaks have been tender and cooked to preference. Fish is always great. As are the chicken or halloumi skewers. Been at both lunch time and evenings. Special mention to Jan, always welcoming; and the chef for really tasty freshly made dishes. Highly recommend.

Best Sunday lunch in saltburn. Hot fresh food, loads of different veg and large portions. We went back the next week to get a takeaway and will definitely be back.

Our first visit to Saltburn and the amazing Virgos, but it won’t be our last. Fantastic Sunday lunch. We both had the beautifully tender beef brisket and shared cheesecake for desert. Friendly, helpful staff - they even recommended a walking route and a coffee shop when we booked!

Without a doubt this gem of a place is the the best place to eat within the Saltburn area . In fact we drove over from the lakes (125 miles ) just for the Sunday roast lol ! Wherever your eating breakfast, dinner or tea this is possibly the best we’ve ever eaten along the whole north east coast line. Stopped here on a whim. Had a fantastic Sunday lunch; lovely home cooked vibes. Very friendly staff and delicious food. Highlights were the lamb, the cauliflower cheese and the friendly service. Everything was piping hot, even the coffee (it's rare to find an actually hot cup of coffee these days IMHO).

This is the second time I have visited this little undiscovered gem. Extensive menu but I have had the halloumi kebabs on Greek salad and it has been perfect both times. Lovely staff! Highly recommend it!!

Visited for Sunday lunch and it was the best Sunday roast I've had in a long time . Good selection of meats available, I opted for the Turkey with stuffing,accompanied with plenty of veg ,mash and roast potatoes. Staff were friendly and booking a must as busy .

Disappointing birthday dinner. Boil in the bag veg and Aunt Bessie potatoes (how can you make roast spuds taste so bad!). All pints where poured at different levels. Tried to speak to staff and chef but they didn’t want to know or take any feedback! Wouldn’t have cared so much if the meal was half the price but the average main dish is £30!!! Such a shame!

Our evening meal, which we were really looking forward to, was poor. Bland mains were accompanied by the usual boil in the bag vegetables available in pubs across the land. We expected much more considering the price.

I base my experience on nightmare version of faulty towers rude unprofessional staff and a deluded, rude out of touch chef!! Dry chicken, Aunt Bessie's potato's and boil in the bag veg totally overpriced for basic retirement home type food! Would avoid like the plauge.

I regularly meet up with friends here for breakfast on a weekend. The service is always excellent, as is their coffee and full english breakfast.

Absolutely amazing full English breakfasts with black pudding that is so good you need to buy extra to take home with you. Unless you have a really big appetite, there is more than enough for most to eat. Friendly owners and for those of us with allergies, no dogs allowed. Coffee is one of the best in Saltburn to boot but be aware it is not included in the price of the quite reasonably priced breakfast. Still excellent value for money in my opinion and have, and will continue, to go back for more.
