St Peters, St Albans, 45-60£
04/04/2020: Visited in early March with my partner. We both had steak and a bottle of white wine. Steaks were cooked perfectly! Service was quick and professional. Thank you for such an enjoyable evening, will certainly be back :)!
23/03/2020: Starving for a proper meal I invited my daughter and her best friend for lunch. Everything was excellent. Her best friend ended up paying. HOwever I will deinfitely go back and recommend in the future.

The Meating Room

St Peters, St Albans
16/03/2020: We booked for a table of 6, restaurant is quite small but definitely packs a . Burgers came out pretty swift and were amazing, cooked to perfection, very nice. Four of us had milkshakes which were also amazing thick real shakes. All in all recommend this place however definitely book as otherwise you may be disappointed
08/03/2020: Loved this! Small but perfectly formed! Excellent food & shakes. Happy all round. Service was great and friendly. It was more a burger cafe that a comfy cosy/lounge round for hours. But a great local place rather than your usual chain.

Marshalswick North, St Albans
05/03/2020: A great place to get breakfast ,lunch or dinner. Nice and clean ,good service and reasonable prices . Free parking outside . Recommend the sausage egg and bacon sandwich.
28/12/2019: The second time I have been to this cafe and the staff are downright rude and miserable. Unfriendly atmosphere and donot take card only cash. (NOT DISPLAYED ANYWHERE).

Beefeater Grill

Park Street, St Albans, <20£
09/03/2020: Building and area surrounding is lovely, and the pub is good, however following a visit on Sunday I wouldn't eat here again.
08/03/2020: The best thing about the Moor Mill is the building. If you are interested in how to keep the original features and history of a property alive whilst running a business then drop by. If you are after good food and good service then just drop by for a drink. I was staying at the Premier Inn next door for 4 days with work and ate here for breakfast and 2 evening meals I wouldn’t eat there for the other meals. The risotto was a nice first evening meal but the male waiter came across as quite rude and not just to me but another table actually asked to speak to the manager about him. I thought I’d give it a second go and order the fillet steak stroganoff (as pictured) sloppy presentation, 6 bits of steak cut up on the side of an enormous amount of chips, raw cherry tomatoes and a pot of warm-ish sauce. I paid £17.99 for this meal! At breakfast I was never given my full order and on one day the continental offering was completely missing all pastries and just 1 flavour of yoghurt. Such a shame they aren’t making this work well at the moment as the location is stunning.

St Alban's Snug Bar

St Peters, St Albans
29/02/2020: Gemma was an attentive and happy host! She always ensured our drinks were refilled and our needs were meet. Food was really nice and nothing was too trouble! Gemma always had a smile and our randon requests were always met happily. She was fab!
29/12/2019: Had an evening of Christmas party here and the drinks were nice and decent prices. Place a little sticky and toilet tiny that you can hardly get in! Overall enjoyed as very convenient in centre of town, could do with a little more cleaning and more attentive staff. The building looks lovely from outside but the inside is trying to be modern yet the style didn’t feel right.

Jack's Fish & Chips

Harpenden West, St Albans
02/09/2019: Request for 3 saveloys and chips was met initially very politely by young lady serving. Only 1 was available, but 2 others were quickly cooked. Man cooking was surly and did not even acknowledge me as a customer. The saveloys arrived split and the chips were greasy and soft. When I got home and unpacked them, both my son and I looked at them and put them straight in the food recycling and cooked a pizza instead.
10/05/2018: Must try out their ribs one day as new sign up stating BBQ ribs. Their pies are lovely but never enough ready.

22/02/2020: Very good! Although there was quite a long queue, I was served very quickly and the food was given to me within a few minutes. Very polite staff, food well cooked. I sat in the restaurant and ate but there are only four tables.
17/02/2020: dirty, huge queue meant it took 30 minutes to be served and obviously the staff were rushing orders. When I started eating my chicken it was pink in areas so I stopped eating it but I then had piercing stomach pains for the next three days.

Sugar & Spice

Clarence, St Albans
21/12/2015: We recently visited Laurel House after friends had recommended the recently opened restaurant. They described the food there in terms usually reserved only for the finest cuisine, and explained how surprised they were by the tiny bill. With this in mind, we pledged to visit when the opportunity arose. Having now dined there, I can safely say that it was so good, I felt compelled to immediately come online and spread the word about the experience. This was, in all honesty, some of the best food I've eaten since moving to this area three years ago. Everything was absolutely delicious, and served with impeccable presentation and attention to detail. The food was plated with the care of a cordon bleu chef. It all tasted even better than it looked! The prices - well, our friends had said it was cheap, but we weren't prepared for quite how cheap. This was fast food money for main menu options like salmon/prawn mixed grill, spatchcock chicken and sirloin steak. I'd have been satisfied paying 3-4x the cost, so we were all absolutely gobsmacked knowing how cheaply the meal was being offered. The chef took time to make us feel very welcome and talk to us about the menu, the prices, and his hopes for the place. We'll be back soon to try the handmade burgers in brioche buns, served with his amazing chips for less than the price of McDonald's meal.Don't sleep on this place!
