What at a privilege it was to lunch alfresco at Tides on a beautiful sunny spring day. We have been before quite a few times and the food has always been fresh interesting and delicious. Today we tried a variety of dishes starters and mains. Tempura prawns squid and a lovely tartlet. Washed down with a crisp glass of white wine to top off a lovely experience. As usual the serving staff were friendly and efficient. Can’t wait to return.

Despite being frequent visitors to Newport we had never visited here before. I imagined it was a large canteen style place for some reason. We were looking for somewhere for lunch today and the smell coming from here welcomed us in. Inside it is a small, friendly and warm cafe with really lovely painting on the wall. I ordered meat balls and my partner the curry. Both were stunning, filling and I had lots of extra veg and salad with mine. I’m sad now it’s taken me so long to discover and can’t wait to revisit next time we come to Newport. The prices are not low but you can tell the food is home made, tastes amazing and has the best quality ingredients which felt well worth paying for.

Apparently the coffee was good. I usually have issues with the word "hot" in hot chocolate but today the problem was "chocolate ". This was watery milky drink with a hint of chocolate only. I'm sure we have had much better here previously.

We had the most delicious fish and chips here last night. Batter was perfect, light and crispy, fish fresh and the mushy peas were yum. The lady serving was lovely and helpful, and we sat outside watching the sunset. A great place for a family meal and we were able to sit outside with our little dog

Visited the cellar bar this evening for drinks- wow!! We were served and looked after by Quinn, who was amazing. His knowledge of the cocktails (which were delicious) was superb, 10/10 charming, friendly service. He went above and beyond to make our evening very special. Always a friendly welcome with a varied menu offering excellent value for money and hearty portions of food. Wide selection of drinks and plenty of seating be it in front of Sky Sports TV or in a quiet area of the premises. They can accommodate group meal bookings for larger groups. Large car park to rear is a bonus in this town.

A Nando’s is a Nando’s so you get what it says on the tin. This experience was no different and delivered. Having said that, the restaurant was cold, the toilets were freezing (no soap in men’s toilet) and the music was uncomfortably loud. Considering that it was nearly empty, the attention to detail was surprisingly poor.
