Freshly made pizza and quickly served. Friendly staff. Need to book as its very popular. We sat in and can have takeaway too

We popped in for lunch, warm welcome, great coffee and the best filled ciabattas. They also did delicious looking pizza and also salads & desserts

We arrived on a Friday evening without booking a table, to a restaurant which was already bustling and busy. Despite this we were greeted with a smile and offered the last remaining g table. The food was delicious, we chose a mix of pizzas and salads, which were top notch. Great atmosphere and fab service - would highly recommend!

Fabulous place! Can’t fault. Had vegan pizza, and I can’t remember having a better one. We added lots of toppings, and it ended up quite expensive, but still, well worth it.

I had the sweet chilli 🌶 prawns for a starter followed by the wild wild west pizza 🍕 for a main course - they were both delicious 😋. Although, they almost forgot my dad's squid 🐙 starter, we had a wonderful time ⏲️

If you are in the area you can eat here, the pizza is ok but you can certainly get better pizza elsewhere. Friendly staff and tasty desserts.

Best Food I ate in Wales, incredible Pizza, great dessert and all that for a very fair price.

One of our favourite places to go!

Popped in for lunch with my family. We were seated in the window. We were greeted with a lovely warm welcome, also extended to our dog! (Tickles & dog biscuit!) Delicious food (I had the Leek & Blue cheese pizza - Land of my Fathers) that was presented beautifully, hot with lovely fresh ingredients. The truffle chips were amazing! A lovely atmosphere. We would highly recommend a visit.

We four Dutchmen arrived in Newport on a hike along the magnificent Welsh coast, and by then felt more than ready to leave behind the fish-and-chips routine. The Canteen proved the perfect alternative. Their affordable menu really hit the spot, with original pizza choices, just the deserts you crave, and original beers (though no draft, if I am not mistaken). And then there's the staff, who seemed to combine fun with hard work and created exactly the sort of atmosphere that makes you remember your evening. Thank you, fine Canteen people!

The Canteen delivers consistently great pizza year round. It's a family favorite for any occasion. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly, with the highest level of customer service, we've never had a bad dish. Their commitment to local and high quality food and drinks is great and we can't recommend them enough. Interesting and delicious starters, salads and specials accompany consistently great quality pizza and their dough balls are like little clouds of heaven! Awesome milkshakes and delicious deserts are just more things they do to the highest quality. Great local beers round off this friendly restaurant experience.

We got a takeaway pizza and ate it by the beach and it was gorgeous! 10/10 service and delicious food. Highly recommend if you’re in the area

Stopped in while camping nearby as a family, what's not to love about this place?! Super-friendly staff who clearly put in so much effort, really interesting pizza flavours made right in front of you and a really lovely, buzzy atmosphere. Make sure you book in advance, worth doing even if you only want takeaway. Only regret is we didn't get to try the Churros for breakfast!

came for breakfast rolls, were very good but took a little longer than expected since we were early. they gave us a whole bottle of sauce which is always appreciated. tasty and good price.

The pizza here is really delicious and absolutely worth booking in advance for. Everything is made to order and they have a lovely choice of ingredients. We’ve been here twice (while on holiday) and the place is so successful, it’s resulted in a disappointing experience for us both times. Last year, we were shooed off our outside table by a family who wanted to sit down as all the other tables were full… we were nearly finished but I was actually still eating. And this year when we booked a takeaway, it was 25 minutes late. While we were waiting, they turned several families away as they were fully booked and running out of dough. Of course, this all just supports that this is a really popular place and the food is truly delicious… so book early.

Absolutely fantastic, these guy's are the bees knees. Friendly laid back atmosphere, well laid out dining room, dog friendly,some lovely cold beers. Pizzas freshly made and cooked, you probably won't get a better one in Italy. Astounding I'd give them 6☆.Ziggy loved it, even though he tried nibbling the waiters ankles.

Fabulous tasty pizzas!! Not a pizza fan but these were excellent! Lots of interesting fillings, thin crust. Great atmosphere, great staff, great service. Good drinks, salads, desserts. Definitely a must! We were a group of 10 walkers and service was very good!

Had a delicious pizza here - the last time I had one as good I was stood with a bunch of Italians outside a backstreet pizza takeaway in Rome. Good atmosphere, friendly service, tasty food. Recommend!

I thought it was ok. Pizza's are tasty enough but not wow. Pizza's are on the small side being 10inches, especially if you're used to a 12 inch (12 inch price though). I guess kids will find them filling, but a 6ft2 man won't. They have the monopoly in Newport, so it is what it is

The food is delicious, we had both pizza and breakfast rolls (on different occasions)! Also very very dog friendly, and the staff are all so welcoming and the service is great - we felt like family there. Will definitely be coming back next time we're in Newport

Ordered a takeaway from here to eat in our campervan. Really good service and friendly staff. The restaurant looks brilliant and you can see the open kitchen. Parking isn't the best as it's town centre on a small street but there's plenty of places to park on side streets. We had 2 pizzas, chips and dough balls. The pizza's were really nice and tasty. The chips were nice, only downside was the garlic butter for the dough balls was still semi frozen so couldn't melt it over them. But apart from that all good. Definitely worth a visit if passing through. I would like to go and dine in next time.

Very impressed with the delicious Pizza Verdi and spicy chicken wings, both dishes on the specials board. We would rate it as probably the best Pizza we have ever eaten and that includes on visits to Italy. The chicken wings were very tasty and tender just falling off the bones, finger licking brilliant! Wonderful service, very friendly owners and staff. Altogether an exceptional meal, we couldn't fault it, will definitely go back on our next visit to Newport, Pembs.

Excellent food, good portions and very welcoming.

We visited 16/4/24 while on holiday. Fantastic food, accommodated the kids sharing no problem, friendly staff, good choice of non-alcoholic drinks and our Dog was well looked after too.

Excellent pizza and service at The Canteen. Dough balls to start with The Welsh Goat and Welsh Italian pizzas. I’m fussy about my pizza base and crust and these were excellent. Couldn’t eat mine so two slices to take home. Too full for dessert. No issue with bringing the dog. Bowl of water and treat offered which was a lovely touch.

What a gem :-) They went out of their way to accommodate us and our dogs. They were very busy and could have easily turned us away but went the extra mile which was most appreciated especially as the food was fantastic. If service is your thing then The Canteen scores 10/10.

We visited the Canteen as a family of four and our little dog Gwen. The owners were so welcoming, treating Gwen to a treat and so friendly and accommodating. The pizza was second to none and such amazing portions - our daughter said that the dough balls were the best she'd ever had!

We visit the canteen often as they always win for amazing,good food, fantastic service And all round a lovely time! Stay awesome...we will keep coming back 😊 Thankyou xx

Good to discover that The Canteen is as good as it was on a previous visit a couple years ago. Very friendly staff. Pizza and salad delicious. Prices reasonable. Will return when next in Pembrokeshire.

30 plus people gathered to celebrate Bryan's birthday. Family and friends all enjoyed some great pizzas, sides, starters and desserts. The staff were all friendly, efficient and worked so hard, with us all sitting in but takeouts as well. Thank you for a fantastic night. We will definitely be back 😁

Fantastic food and staff are so friendly.

Thank you to Canteen for feeding 2 hungry travellers looking for dinner last night. Obviously a very busy time for them, 7.40pm on a Friday eve, but they were friendly and welcoming when taking our order. We sat inside and had a cider while we waited and 20 minutes later we were on our way with a delicious Butternut Squash & Perl Las pizza, fries & coleslaw, all really good. Took it down to the estuary and ate our food as the geese came home for the night, amazing stuff!!

We were just passing and decided to eat here as it looked reasonable cost. As no internet signal, we didn’t know this restaurant has such great reviews. So we were very happy to discover such a great place. The vegetarian pizza and coleslaw we shared was perfect, really lovely. The staff were also very friendly. It was obvious this was a very popular place as they were getting a lot of phone orders. Definitely recommend this place.

It's super accommodating, considering we didn't reserve our first visit. The pizza, service and value for money were so good we reserved later in the week for a larger group and The Canteen/staff didn't disappoint, it's a no-brainer we'll be back next year while visiting the local area on holiday.

Fantastic pizzas here last week with really excellent service too. Very busy so you really do have to book. Vegetarian and vegan options too. Lots of locally sourced produce on the menu too. Also visited next morning for breakfast rolls for the adults and churros for the kids - great place!

Ordered a takeaway. Requested 7:15 pickup. Pizzas were ready on the dot. They were mega. The butternut is a pizza revelation. Get involved!

The staff dealt with my food allergy painstakingly and effectively. The pizzas were fantastic- great authentically Italian bases and imaginative toppings using local ingredients. Food and drink very reasonably priced. The staff work really hard and service is quick and friendly.

Cracking pizzas, great atmosphere, friendly and efficient service. A perfect place for an early evening meal. The staff were operating at high levels of activity but still managed to provide what seemed to be a popular takeaway service through a hatch.

Relaxed atmosphere, exceptional food and service. My partner is coeliac and we're always cautious about eating out , have no fears here gluten free pizza base's are available allowing her to eat any pizza not just restricted menu .. booking is advised We will be returning.

We had pizza here for lunch on a sunny day and were lucky to get one of the two tables outside amid the gentle hustle and bustle of lovely Newport. The staff were super friendly and the food was delicious… really fresh and they use quality ingredients - we had one with ham & pineapple, and one with butternut squash, courgette & pine nuts (which also has blue cheese but I didn’t have that) - both pizzas were superb. This place is understandably popular (our outside table was claimed by a family before we’d even finished!) but there were quite a lot of tables inside. Definitely get a table if you can - it’s a lovely place and the food is really delicious.

What a great place. The food is exceptional.( We had the chicken caesar salad, followed by a great almond pudding. )What makes this place so nice is the friendly ,welcoming staff. We only started using it after one of the team ( unprompted) offered our dog a treat when we were passing. Relaxed, good food and dog friendly. A gem.

Good family venue. Great communication for booking, friendly welcome and service and also dog friendly which is helpful if you’re on holiday as we were. Atmosphere was lovely, general noisy babble of lots of different groups chatting and laughing. Food was good too! Plenty of choice for pizza and tasty desserts.

Milkshake was delicious very chocolatey and cold made fresh. Pizza was good, staff friendly, quick service, clean and comfortable inside.

Delicious takeaway pizza. Ordered in advance and food was ready for us to collect hot on time. Friendly staff and made to feel welcome. Was the ideal accompaniment to watching the sunset from nearby Newport Sands!

We didn't book a table but we were able to get seated inside although we were told the table was booked for a bit later. We had plenty of time to order pizzas and drinks and delicious affogato without feeling pressured to eat and vacate our seats quickly. The pizzas are delicious, all made to order and you can see them being baked from your table. The staff are friendly and accommodating, I would definitely recommend this restaurant if you fancy a pizza whilst in Newport!

Absolutely fantastic pizza! So good I visited twice in two days!

Had a really decent pair of pizzas from here. Took them away, picking them up from the window at exactly the time they said they’d be ready. The toppings were put on generously, were fresh and mostly tasty. Their vegan cheese wasn’t substantive, becoming an almost liquid on top of the pizza. It wasn’t cloying like some vegan cheeses but it was insipid and not quite solid enough. Not off putting, but notable. My partner loved their vegetarian pizza with dairy cheese, no notes. We also had a side of chips which were great.

Best pizza in Wales? I've eaten a lot of pizza and am struggling to think of one that's been better. Good menu selection, including a few that you don't tend to find elsewhere. Great service and value. Recommend giving it a try!

Outstanding food and service. I came in with my mum and dad and our three Shetland sheepdogs. After an epic trek it was nice to find somewhere to chill. The drinks were also great too.
