Visited the cellar bar this evening for drinks- wow!! We were served and looked after by Quinn, who was amazing. His knowledge of the cocktails (which were delicious) was superb, 10/10 charming, friendly service. He went above and beyond to make our evening very special. Beautiful cocktails and atmosphere, we enjoyed every second. Thank you Quinn, we will be back! From Jack, Ellie, Lucy and Mark

Invited to a wedding evening at this venue and was lovely. So steep stairs but a handrail is provided - the beer is generally bottles but the atmosphere is excellent - the food was super ! A really great evening

We started the evening with a really nice meal in the upstairs restaurant (I’ll write a separate review for this). Following our meal, we retired to the cellar bar, having seen photos on the website. We took our first drinks in the outside area, which was really nice and relaxing - a perfect location following a day in the sun on Newport Sands Beach! We then transferred indoors and started making our way through the cocktails - mixologist Liviu was really good! clearly very experienced and produced some great cocktails. My brother in law and I took a particular liking to the Negroni’s!! Liviu was a true professional and made us feel really welcome. Sadly we are only here for a short weekend, but will be definitely be returning soon to Newport and the Cellar Bar will again be on our agenda.

Part of the hotel, the cellar bar is a restaurant that we visited for an evening meal. First class food, great choice on the menu and good friendly service. Prices are in keeping with the quality of this establishment, so therefore on the top end, but if you are looking for something special or a restaurant that provides the higher end in this part of Pembrokeshire, Llys Meddyg is the place to go. Used by many locals, so is another good indicator of its consistent quality.

We visited over the bank holiday weekend, we expected it to be busy but when we called in for a drink we found there was only one table assigned for having drinks and that was taken. We asked where we could sit to have a drink as there were five of us and a number of empty large tables laid out ready for food for two people. We were told all the tables were reserved so we left thirsty and a bit miffed. The restaurant upstairs was quiet but the cellar bar which advertises itself as a place to go for a drink has all but one table reserved for food. I'm happy to see businesses doing well, but it seems the cellar bar isn't a bar, it is a more casual dining area than the restaurant upstairs. We called back a couple of days later and managed to get the one table designated for drinks (all other tables were booked again)and had a fantastic cocktail. My issue isn't that its busy, it's the fact the signs outside tempt you in to the cosy cellar bar for a drink, but the likelihood of being able to get one with a seat is slim, unless you book a table for food as well. I think it would be useful either to rename it as a restaurant or make more seats available for people who want to be able to call in for a drink. On the plus side it's a lovely venue with great cocktails.

We saw this place and it looked very interesting. It opens at 6:00 pm so we arrived just after. We didn't make a booking but I would highly recommend doing so as they just about fit us in. The food is quite expensive but it was amazing, I had the duck's leg and my friends had the steak and we all really enjoyed it. The cocktails were very nice and they have a range of infused spirits to offer. I would highly recommend this place.

Nice atmosphere, best not to be too close to the log burner unless you like being hot that is. Food is excellent, a Chef that must enjoy his career. Portions on the small side.

I arranged for the owner to prepare some canapés and drinks to entertain a BBC production team once they had finished filming nearby. Nothing was too much effort and as always the food and service was second to none. In essence you get what you pay for and I think some reviewers have unrealistic expectations of what they can get without spending the appropriate sum of money! The bar is small but it's more than ample for quite a number of guests and has bags of character. The London crowd from the TV company where completely enthused by their experience and left with a smile on their face.

A nice bar under the restaurant with rooms above. A range of home-made fruit gins and vodkas are available, which are very good. However, prices are expensive, even for the standard drinks.

The bar is cosy enough, it could do with a good clean. The drinks are quite expensive - normal for Newport! The food tasted fine, but the portions are very small for the price.

My family visited on Monday evening after booking a table! We were warmly welcomed and taken down to the cellar bar! What a fabulous place! The atmosphere was warm and buzzy with different bottles of flavoured gin, vodka etc. along the bar. The cocktail menu was great and I opted for the sloe gin fizz; delicious! The food menu was limited but interesting. My dad and I had the halibut which was lovely! My mum had the crab linguine which was also very good, with a generous portion of pasta! My sister had the pork and said it was delicious! The only downside was having to order separate side dishes, although the price for each head worked out to be a reasonable price! It also would have been nice to have a mixed leaf salad as a side? For dessert I opted for the peanut butter parfait, with everyone else sharing a chocolate ganache with passion fruit. Both desserts were absolutely delicious; some of the best we'd ever had! All of the staff were very friendly and bubbly and the atmosphere of the cellar bar was just fabulous! We had a lovely evening and hope to return when next in Newport! Definitely to try some more of the cocktails!

Dinner for my wife and I was superb seated on the church pew table in the atmospheric cellar bar where small well behaved dogs are welcomed - so our Lhasa Apso Molly sat under the table quite happily and was even given her own bowl of water there. FOOD My crab linguine was superb, al dente pasta and very fresh crab. My wife's lobster was divine she reports, fresh and perfectly cooked. We shared a veg side of roasted butternut squash, beetroot and feta - heaven! . Returned for just dessert some nights later, pannacotta, which was gorgeous. DRINKS The barman is a really talented Cocktail bar waiter, very charming and efficient, clearly very adept . We had the Special of the Day - Fennel Martinis - brain numbing but moreish! The Eastern European barman was a absolute pro . He seems to specialise in his own recipe gin infused base drinks all lined up behind the bar, from which he creates his daily specials. Another fab idea is using up really good reds by displaying half full bottles on the bar and selling by the glass at fantastic prices. But on the simple things, my wife loved the water served in a big glass jug with, not just wafer thin cucumber slices but pink rose petals . Wow! So simple but effective. We went back a couple of times for drinks, mainly cocktails which were excellent. AMBIENCE/ SERVICE Yes rustic chic sums it up . Service professional and attentive without being pushy. Staff were very knowledgeable and seemed very proud to be in the employ of this outstanding venue. Even booking our table etc ***We cannot understand why this beautiful restaurant Llys Meddyg/ cellar bar doesn't top every list as in our opinion, it is superb! And dog friendly :-) ***

This is a great little bar, staff are really friendly and helpful which made the night. The food was very good as you would expect in a hotel of this level, but the intimate bar makes for a great evening.Perhaps may consider opening for a little longer (6-9pm) but overall well worth a go.

Tiny, atmospheric bar with stone flagged floor & a couple of dining tables. May be better on ordinary nights but at times of celebration such as New Year slips into an attempt at big city sophistication which doesn't work and spoils the atmosphere. Owners are obviously trying to offer a relatively up market drinks selection but unfortunately the bar staff are not particularly well trained and have little knowledge of what they have available.

Lovely restaurant with an interesting menu. The monkfish risotto was rather oversalted for my taste, but other members of the party said the lamb was superb.Dogs were made welcome, which is a huge plus in my estimation :)

Poor service - uninterested waitress in bar with scruffy waiter taking orders. Food overpriced with very small portions - minute piece of sole, small steak - asked for medium served as rare (almost blue). Avoid this place - went to Cnapan two days later and this was superb.

Overpriced, slow service. Staff not interested in serving us and when they did they weren't at all friendly. Food good but too expensive for what it was and I will be in ro hurry to return. Could have been so much better with a little effort shown by the staff.

The cellar bar has a lovely feel to it. The furniture and decor is very tasteful and classy. The log burner was particularly atmospheric. I wish I could say the service matched. The barman was quite rude. My daughter asked for a cocktail he told her couldn't make one. My other daughter had not heard this and also asked for a cocktail. He told her I have already explained I can't make one ! Very rude.

My husband arranged a table for the two of us for a birthday treat. He specifically asked for a table on Friday 8th November, and this was confirmed by a female member of staff. We arrived last night with the intention of having a drink in the cellar bar first. When we entered the building no one was around, and we joked it must be closed. We went down to the cellar bar which was 'semi-lit' but also empty. My husband went back upstairs to ring the bell. Someone then appeared and told us our reservation was actually for Saturday 9th November. We disputed this as it was specifically booked for the 8th and confirmed by hotel staff, a token sorry was uttered, but it was implied it was our fault. No real apology, taking of responsibility or solution was offered. The man we spoke to asked if we had the telephone number of Llys Meddyg, with the assumption that we would like to phone the hotel/ restaurant the next day. Well, actually I think it would have been a courtesy if Llys Meddyg telephoned us to apologise for spoiling our evening / my birthday, but there has been no contact so far.

Absolutely amazing food. Excellent service. Nothing is too much trouble. Staff are friendly, chatty & helpful, and it’s clean. Definitely recommend the coronation chicken, cheese salad. Hubby had baked spud first time which he enjoyed & baguette 2nd time each he enjoyed. And the cakes WOW!! I will miss the carrot cake which I highly recommend & the custard slice is just as amazing. The cost is brilliant too. Thanks you Phillys Baguettes

I used to go here on occasion while stationed at Brawdy. It was a great place to go after a session of surfing. I was saddened to hear that it recently suffered a fire.

Ordered two crab sandwiches latte and a beer, £35. Staff need a pick me up or it’s been a hard season. The crab sandwich was good, spoonful of coleslaw, frozen chips. Was told to help myself to a glass for the beer, everyone looked not properly washed, picked the cleanest but still had bubbles down inside indicating grease. Latte was tasteless. Not a pleasant experience won’t be back.
