On a recent trip to Pembrokeshire, my partner and I visited The Royal Oak Newport for dinner. We were greeted warmly by the staff and quickly shown to our table. The Falafel Platter was a hit, with fresh ingredients and great flavours. The whole experience was delightful, from the friendly service to the cosy atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in town.

It's not a great food experience, but it is also not inedible. As there are other choices in the town, I'm unlikely to return. On the plus side, they're better than the place nearest to them (the Castle Inn).

Nice food, the currys especially are great. Big portions as well. However, inexplicably and unlike most of the other pubs in the area, dogs 🐕 are banned. Silly really, as given the area, where there any many dog owners the pub is missing out on a lot of potential trade. So takeaways it has to be for us now we have a dog, with bottled beers from the supermarket. Shame really.

The Royal Oak is one of our favourite places to eat in Newport. They have a full pub menu with great steaks. The Oak is also a curry house, with curries that are just as good, if not better than most Indian restaurants. You can eat in the restaurant or take away. We give the Royal Oak 5 stars for: Staff friendliness. Service. Food quality. And value for money. Highly recommend.

I discovered The Royal Oak Newport during a solo trip to Pembrokeshire. After a long day of sightseeing, I was looking for a place to relax and enjoy a good meal. Ordered meal at 7.50pm, at 9.00pm it hadn’t arrived, so asked waiter how long it would be, and was told at least another 15 minutes! So we cancelled the order and left after we had paid for the bottle of wine we had. Too late to eat anywhere else, so a completely spoilt evening on our holiday. If we had been told of the delay, we wouldn’t have wasted our time and money on the wine, and gone to one of the other pubs we had previously visited and had a great meal!

We just had a lamb and mint pasty and a beef and onion pie, both with chips and a salad. We waited quite a while but it was well worth it, massive portion for about £8. Piping hot, freshly baked crisp pastry on both pasty and pie. In 2024 this is really good value. If you want a simple meal that will fill you up and taste good and for a sensible price you can't go wrong. Take the overpriced feeble meals from other nearby places and shove them, this is the one for proper food.

Stopped here for sunday lunch, and it was quite busy with newport FC players. This only made the atmosphere better as it felt very local, and Welsh! There were a few people at the bar speaking fluent welsh which only made me want to join in with the chats 😂. The sunday lunch me and my father had was amazing, high quality meat, plenty of extra veg and lovely gravy with a banging yorkshire pud! My father had a veggie roast and he said it was amazing. We had a terrible experience here during our recent visit to Newport. We can't comment on the quality of the food as we never received our meal. Having booked 2 or 3 weeks prior to the start of our holiday and having had a confirmation email, we were less than impressed to find we didn't actually have a reserved table at all. Other people apparently did, but not us. However, we found somewhere to sit and ordered drinks. An hour and a half later we still hadn't had our order and upon enquiring were told it would be another 20 minutes at least. Needless to say, we got up and left, closely followed by another couple who had come in after us. However, quite a lot of takeaway meals seem to make their way out of the door while we were there, clearly taking precedence over customers sat inside. Very disappointing experience given that we ate at least 3 times in this pub on our last trip to Newport. I'm not sure what went wrong this time, but we won't be repeating the experience.

We visited today for a Sunday lunch, it was very busy but we were quickly shown a table. We ordered & paid for our drinks and meals & waited.....& waited. There was no indication from the staff of how long the waiting time was.... However when our meals arrived they were lovely, we decided to order a dessert, but for the price the portions were tiny. If the kitchen can't keep up with the orders coming through then communicate with your front of house staff who can then keep customers informed & maybe explain the waiting time when guests wish to order meals. I would like to commend Alison, this lady was here, there & everywhere, sorting takeaway mix ups, calming waiting guests, serving both food & drinks & clearing tables. The other lady too (sorry didn't get your name) was busy serving drinks & keeping the bar area clean, as for the two young lads we saw.....come on at least smile while delivering food & pick up the pace a little. Being in hospitality myself I know communication is the key to a smooth shift, remember happy staff, happy customers! Thank You, we will be back!!

Family friendly, our two littles were very happy and shared an adults jacket potato and beans. Without asking they brought out two little bowls and spoons. I really like The Royal Oak, it has the feel of a traditional pub that manages to blend eating for (mostly) tourists and a spot for locals to have a pint. Ignore the snidey reviews, the food is decent pub grub, the curries are spicy but tasty and the portions are huge. Good beer, friendly service ( if a bit understaffed) and a pleasant atmosphere. Feels like a proper pub still, a rarity in this gentrified part of the world!

During our second stay in the Newport area of Pembrokeshire we visited the Royal Oak six times for a hearty meal after a full day exploring the local area. Every time we were given a nice welcome at the bar and enjoyed the excellent customer service from the waiting staff. Our meals were served in a reasonable time and the food was lovely, far better than the generic "pub grub" outlets with more of a home cooked taste to them. Personally we would recommend any of the Sunday lunch options as well as the Curries plus my wife's favourite which is the fish and chips (the fish portion was a very good size and of great quality}. We will be staying in the area again next year and the Royal Oak will be our first choice for dining.

Once inside was informed smaller menu, lighter lunch meals. I ordered the whitebait, c/w salad, coleslaw, bread and butter, wife had quiche, c/w salad, chips, coleslaw. Thought not going to be enough for me, so I ordered a side dish of chips. When they brought the food to table I thought that was a mistake ordering the chips. We have recently moved into the area and have had a few meals at St. Brides Inn, Little Haven. We have to say the staff are very friendly and attentive. Having visited on several occasions, we highly recommend the food. Comming from the United States, the salad is the best I have tasted in the UK.
