A regular stop for any in Monmouth. Fresh, flavorful food in great quantities and friendly service. Variety of food covers large number of desires, from fresher wraps to doughy pizzas. Always friendly and familiar, which makes it more than just a slog for easy food. A place to be relied on, and always to be recommended.

I highly recommend that you visit this hidden cozy pub!!! Roast dinner was delicious , but due to the portion size couldn’t manage to eat it all. Staff were so friendly , but Fudge ( the dog) was the best company . Perfect place to sit in front of a log burner and enjoy a Sunday afternoon chatting with locals . Couldn’t have asked for more. Thanks again for hospitality, definitely will visit again

What an excellent visit we had! The bar staff and landlady were so welcoming and funny, we could have stayed for hours. Dogs welcome too, perfect stop off on our canal boat holiday, would most certainly return.

The garden was lovely for children, that is all that is positive about this venue. The food was tasteless and the most disgusting food ever to be served. It was under cooked, with hard vegetables and clear water gravy! How they can charge customers for the slop they served today for Sunday lunch is beyond me. Never in my life have I ever experienced such rudeness from a manger or seen such rubbish food! We won’t be returning, and I’d advise others to not either. Such a shame, with the right chef and proper management, this place could be very popular.

Alex Gooch is familiar to us as we buy his products in Hay-on-Wye market so when we came across his bakery and coffee shop in Monmouth we thought it would be worth a visit. How wrong were we. When we walked in I noticed the breakfast muffin on display so ordered one of those for myself along with an americano and cold milk. My wife ordered a pastry and tea with milk. Now I have to admit that both of us did not see the small writing telling us that the cafe is 100% plant based but neither did the staff checked that we knew this. Our tea and coffee came with oat milk which for us ruined our drinks and my muffin came with an apology for plant sausage and plant bacon whatever they are, both of which where disgusting, I could only eat the bread - what a waste of money. I have no problem with what others wish to eat but it would have been nice to have more prominent information via signage and members of staff so that we could have gone elsewhere.
