Fantastic chip shop. Very polite and friendly service, generous amounts and great taste. Would rate 6 out of 5 if I could!!!

Best kebab I've had in a long while. I drive 20+ miles from where I live just for their kebab wraps. Price is above what you'd pay in other towns, but probably on par for Monmouth.

We genuinely cannot rate this place enough. The food is always delivered fresh, hot & in good time; and the service always comes with a smile! Aslan’s go that extra mile, tonight they waited in our drive to keep our food dry & warm, which was very appreciated knowing we were stuck in traffic due to an accident :)

Top traditional fish and chips in a nice and well presented cafe setting. A great place I'm sure we'll return to.

Love this fish and chip shop. It's our traditional stop on a Sunday afternoon on the way back from the Gower Coast.

Sometimes pick up some food when visiting friends in the area as we did earlier. It's not often I give a 5 star but I loved the doner kebab and chips today

We got food to take away from Aslan’s last night (we’re were camping local). We ordered 2 large chip, 3 battered sausages and a fish bites. Unfortunately for me I was the one to order the fish bites. Within 3 hours of eating our dinner I began vomiting. Today I feel awful. I would not recommend taking the risk going for food here.

Called on way home for pie chips horrible , unable to eat chips were disgusting hard . Pie was lovely ,£5.20 worth of chips went in the bin after tasting a few wouldn’t recommend the chips

Tasty fish and chips . Good portion size. Friendly staff. Have a seating area which is good as nd accommodated us all. We went just when it opened for lunch on a Monday . Some of items unfortunately like doner not available at the time we went. Clean establishment , staff friendly

Wow! We were passing through Monmouth at lunchtime and spotted this amazing and wonderful fish and chip shop. Fish and chips for two which we then ate in the grounds of nearby Monmouth Castle. Prices were very reasonable and, even more import, Aslan had a notice in the window saying that it only accepts cash. Fantastic! I no longer use plastic for payments and any place that accepts cash will always get my custom. Cash is King!

Omg the fish was beautiful, the best fish and chips I've had in a long time . The inside eating are very clean and tidy service excellent. It's cash only tho folks so be prepared. Toilets available clean and tidy.

Trip advisor came up trumps again. We travelled to Monmouth to go to a different restaurant but it was closed and this was nearby. The large fish was excellent along with superbly cooked chips.. it was all cooked fresh and the wait was worth it. Looking forward to visiting soon.

Sadly the gluten free fish and chips triggered a celiac response, perhaps due to contamination. Won't risk buying gluten free fish and chips from there again.

Went there today on the off chance bought fish and chips and a fish cake was over charged and not given my drink what should of came with meal and the fish was saturated in so much oil you would have less oil in a 2 litre car engine

Traveled from Portishead especially to experience Aslan's fish and chips. Excellent food and hot! Chips are proper chips. Friendly and obliging staff. Will be back when doing a trip up through the Wye Valley.

Very tasty Haddock and chips my wife had cod and chips. Portions were a fair size as well we will be going back and would recommend it's the best in monmouth town.

Omg,glad I didn't listen to the bad reviews,it was absolutely amazing. Best chips I've had in my life,I wish we had a shop like this at home. Sadly,only visiting. The burger was also amazing. Warning though,when you order a large bag and expect a large,double your expectations,the portion is huge! Was stuffed halfway through but literally couldn't stop eating them. Trust me,do yourself a favour and visit today!

A bit of a wait but really worth it. Beautiful fish. White and grease free. Chip we're moreish. I had a pineapple fritter which I didn't see on the board and well worth advertising if you ask me. Pea fritter was the only thing that could be improved if I'm being picky. If you are in monmouth well worth a visit. Bonus it's open on a Sunday evening

We needed a Services on the A40 late on Saturday evening and went into Monmouth looking for somewhere to eat. By chance, we came across Aslan's Fish and Chips cafe. Really clean cafe, with friendly prompt service and excellent fish and chips cooked to order. We would definitely recommend it and look forward to returning soon.

Pie and chips on night one were great. Chicken meat and chips on day two were dreadful. The chicken was either stale, or over cooked. It was super hard and chewy. Chips were still ok, as they were cooked on the spot, but the chicken certainly wasn't. I'd still go back, but only for the pie and chips.

Very nice food, crisp light batter, clean oil. Decent portion and value for money. Fish was skinless, chips were crispy and fluffy.

Had the small fish and chips. Correction the fish wasn't small, it was good and the cod was skinless, which some people prefer. There were plenty of chips, so for a weekday lunch it was very good. The two staff I assume were the owners because they were there to help. Thanks, we have eaten there before and it has always been a good rendition of fish and chips.

Late on in a long day we stopped in Monmouth and popped in to Aslan's for a quick bite to eat. We all had chips - I had curry sauce as well, which was plentiful and delicious. It definitely hit the spot.

Great fish bar, menu range is good, gluten free batter and choice for vegetarians. Friendly staff and a fair price.

Popped in for something to eat after a spontaneous drive to Monmouth. Got two small portions of chips along with a large sausage in batter and a bottle of Pepsi. Total cost was £7.40. Decent amount of chips per portion. Sausage in batter was nice. Service was quick and place was very clean. Cash only, so be aware of this when visiting. There's a Barclays ATM just down the road (less than 50 yards) from Aslans.

Very disappointing. Dried up chips, we couldn't eat and large fish over cooked and not large, just long and skinny. Paid £17.90 for large cod, sm chips and L cod and L chips. If we had not driven away to eat it, we would have taken it all back and asked for a refund

Visit Aslans whenever we are passing through the area and every time we enjoy exceptional food and great service. Ordered ahead of time and easy pickup, excellent range of gluten free items also. Highly recommended.

Sunday canoeing on the Wye from Monmouth so veryhungry. Ordered doner kebabs and gluten free fish and chips. Busy, but even though we were take-away were allowed to wait in dining area (and use the "facilities"). Food was freshly cooked and delicious. Cash only, but cash point is no more than two minutes walk away, ordered and then popped to machine. Thanks, very much appreciated

This is a great local fish and chip shop! The owners are so kind, and the fish and chips are consistently good. They have pea fritters and pineapple fritters which are a bit of an oddity but I love them! I firmly believe this is the best fish and chips shop in Monmouth and the surrounding area. It’s worth noting they are cash only and are consistently very busy so Patience is a virtue. Couldn’t recommend a place more.

Visited Aslans this week. It was as fabulous as my first visit. Crisp, crunchy and tasty scampi with beautiful crisp chips. I think this is possibly one of the best fish and chip shops I've ever been too. Staff are very pleasant, polite and friendly. A definate visit if you are ever in Monmouth.

Great coeliac fish and chips, was offered gluten free or coeliac chips which are cooked in a dedicated fryer, not mentioned on website but well worth a visit as they were delicious

I went to this fish and chip shop for the first and last time on Friday evening. A dreadful experience from start to finish. The girl on the counter was very rude and unhelpful with no please or thankyou in her covabulary. I ordered a small fish and chips for my wife and a small mixed meat kebab in a pitta bread with a portion of chips. After the longest wait ever of over 30 minutes for my takeout (it wasn't even that busy) I finally received my order. I jumped back in the car and off we went. When we arrived back at the campsite a few miles away we ravenously opened the bag ready to devour the offerings. My wife's order was bang on but mine was a complete feck up...no mixed kebab in pitta bread just mixed kebab meat in a tray with chips and an extra portion of chips that we didn't order which went straight in the bin. Fish and kebab meat was good but the chips were tasteless. Terrible experience and won't be going back next time we're in Monmouth! 😖

Chips were very far from fresh. They were rock hard from having sat there so long and should definitely not have been sold. They went in the bin. Really disappointed as we drove into town to buy this meal, and couldn't face driving all the way back to ask for a fresh serving.

The fish and chips were great and pretty cheap but I've never had such rude service from a teenager working the register. She was having trouble putting my order in and became aggressive. The owner came to help and seemed extremely friendly. She was even rude to him. Hopefully he can get a nicer replacement when school starts back.

Ate here once. It's a fair chippy, everyone has a favorite somewhere or other.

Food was nice and the portions were fair sizes! Chips were chunky and not soggy, The Irish curry was very tasteful and enjoyable. However the saveloy was abit bland and tasteless but do not let that put you off going to Aslans fish bar the food was nice and the people were lovely, the saveloy was probably a one off. I would order again.

We had all of our food delivered to the theatre, all bagged separately in family bubbles and labelled with individual names. The food was hot and fresh and delicious! Everyone commented how good it all was, from fish to fishcake, pie to sausage and the chips are the best we’ve ever tasted - crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside! Visited Aslan’s tonight for the first time. Staff very friendly. Very clean environment. Social distancing adhered to. Only fancied some chips. Three sizes to choose from. I had the regular size, and struggled to eat them all. They were the perfect chip. Crispy on the outside, and fluffy on the inside. Freshly cooked. Great, friendly staff. Have never had an order go wrong here, and is my go-to in Monmouth. I even forgot my wallet and they said I could pay next time! Only quibble is the online ordering doesn't work for me, but they can take orders over the phone so no problem really. The halloumi is great as well, and a good number of other veggie options compared to other places. Thumbs up for Aslan!

Eat here after a days hiking, what a find! Not only was the quantity enough to satisfy a hungry hiker but the quality was spot on. This coupled with the friendly staff made for a very pleasant meal sat in the cafe / eating area.
