One of the best Fish and chips I've had in a while. I hope that the residents of Usk will support and welcome this lovely young couple in their new venture.

I went there with two of my daughters to buy cod and chips. Although the food was cooked from scratch, the fish was clearly off because all three of my daughters spent the next morning in the toilet with diarrhea from food poisoning. That was the only thing that they ate.

Good food, mushy peas, very thin and not stirred.

I was recently in Usk Fish Bar and had a great experience. The food was delicious and the staff was friendly and helpful. The fish and chips were cooked to perfection and the portions were generous. The prices were very reasonable and the atmosphere was very relaxed and comfortable which was a nice surprise. Amazing Food & quick. Possibly Under New Management?!? Amazing Chips and Curry Sauce, possibly under new management as the quality has improved massively and the speed of service, prices are very reasonable too.

Lovely fish and chips with the new owners

Called in on a Saturday lunchtime without any foreknowledge of the place. The fish was cooked fresh within a batter that was nicely seasoned and not heavy, unlike some fish bars. The service was provided with a smile and if ever passing this way again would definitely call in.

Absolutely terrible place , food is disgusting and a quick look at the out side did put me off actually entering ! But family hungry, nothing tasted fresh , batter soggy , chips rock hard and tasted awful. If that was the first time I’d ever eaten fish and chips I’d never eat them again! They say it’s the best in Usk , that’s because it’s the only one in Usk? Advice if you want good Fish and chips go to Jones in Newport Rd. We avoid this chip shop . It’s a shame as could be a decent place but despite the many changes of hand it’s never got any better just worst , sorry!

Excellent food fish, sausage, battered sausage, pies, cod bites, fishcake curries Chinese Irish or standard chip shop. Lovely staff. Good value.

Good service but personally I found the chips a little on the greasy side.

The wife and I called in for a sausage and chips recently. The chips were what we could only describe as Scragends. The chips were mainly spikes and end cuts. Very few actual proper chips. Will not buy from here again. A tenner down the toilet in our view.

Amazing experiences! Traditional flavor and texture!

You will get plenty of delicious food here! The staff was friendly and provided excellent service. The fish was right out of the fryer and was hot, moist and crispy!

Very nice chips and gravy, quickly served by friendly staff. For a chippy in a small village, the menu has a good range. Great place to stop off and get a bite to eat mid-journey.

Massive portions well worth the money

Chips were hard and only luke warm, batter on fish was thick and really oily, the inside of the batter didn't appear cooked and the fish smelled and still had the skin on. We didn't eat them and will never go there again ! If it wasn't for the fact there was nowhere to park and we'd had to drive a little way out of Usk, I woud have returned the food and demanded my money back

The fish was lovely, chips were a bit dry and stale (😞). Plus there was excitement on the main road outside

Nicely cooked chips, cooked just right (not too oily, not too dry). Batter was delicious, melted in the mouth not in the hand! Friendly staff and clean, spotless premises. This will be our new regional chip shop now.

This was the first time I had tried this Fish Shop. The chips were crisp on the outside soft in the middle very tasty. The batter on the fish was crisp and well cooked the fish I had was cod it was flaky, nice and white in colour. Excellent value. I would recommend Usk Traditional Fish & Chips.

Omg the food is amazing, had a fish n chips, had to wait for the fish, but it was being cooked fresh for me, was amazing, the fish melted in my mouth! And the chips were bang on to, possably the best chips iv had in a long time

We visited this so called fish and chip shop today for two haddock and chips.. On returning home to eat our meal the chips were soggy and looked as if they at least two days old. As for so called haddock fish.. We found that there was not enough fish to make two decent fish fingers, the batter was that thick I could have wall papered my living room with it. We consider that overall this was the worst portion of fish and chips we have ever experienced any where in this country.. Tradional fish and chips... A Tradional waste of our money.. Not again thank you.

During the covid we have been trying to support local businesses, and last night thought we would give the local fish and chip shop a turn.The service was excellent from start to finish. Staff are friendly,shop spotlessly clean,food delicious and big portions.I rang to order and chose a pick up time, and our food was ready and waiting when we got there. Very tasty, 3 satisfied customers, we will be back. Thankyou.

From ordering via phone, to delivery,everything was great. Hake is my new favourite fish. Usk Traditional Fish and Chips will now be my "go to" for takeaway. I hope the owners Steve, Jacqui and their lovely daughter Mia will be supported by the residents of and visitors to Usk.

Visited Usk Traditional Fish & Chips 3 times since it's opened & never left disappointed! The chips are the best I've ever tasted! Keith, Steve & staff are so friendly & welcoming. I think I'll be making a weekly visit! Great to have you in Usk

My partner and I had fish and chips tonight. All I can say is WOW, They must be the tastiest fish and chips I have ever tasted and the staff were so warm and friendly. The shop has recently been taken over by new management and I wish them all the very best for the future and I will certainly be recommending them and hopefully will be visiting again.

Well what an improvement from the last visit we have been purposely not going there because of the discussing food and abysmal service we had. However the new owners really know what they are doing the shop was so Clean and tidy freshly painted walls and the complete building looking so so much better than before with a lovely little caf style seating area. We ordered 2 cod and chips 2 pots of curry 1 chip shop 1 Irish. And a sausage for the dog Good potions and quality food. very happy customers here. Would highly recommend, new owners lovley food and service will definitely be going again.

First time visiting under the new management and what a pleasant change! Food was incredible, the batter was so light and the chips were awesome. The staff were friendly and accommodating. I can’t wait for our next visit.

We called in today for takeaway fish and chips. The food was freshly cooked and was excellent. The fish was so fresh with a light tasty batter. The staff were friendly and genuinely pleased to serve us. We will definitely be visiting again. Thank you

Had better had worse, cheap as chips

was going past this lovely place and thought il drop by got a lovely big cod with chips and lovely hot mushy peas all freshly made by the owner

This is quite possibly the worse experience I've had with a fish and chips outlet. After queuing for 20 minutes I ordered a few simple dishes to be told there was no fish left - yes, it's a FISH and chip shop! This was 6pm. I selected an alternative but the older owner kept repeating what I said and adding chips to each order despite me not wanting them with some. After about three attempts he got it right but then the sullen attitude kicked in and he asked him very sarcastically if I wanted salt and vinegar each time, glaring at me in an attempt to make me feel uncomfortable. A younger middle-aged man, possibly his son, stood and stared me down which intimidated my young children. I was then charged for a large chips when I had only ordered a medium (which was such a small portion I relented and went with the 'large') and paid extra. When I commented on the poor service the younger man shrugged and said 'it's been a long day'. Err, still no excuse for rudeness. As we left the shop he hurled abuse at us. To boot, the fishcake was cold and tasteless and the chips were soggy. All in all, a terrible experience which we'll never repeat.

Menus on wall confusing prices .. food good tho

Ok, The place itself is ok, good atmosphere. I started coming here in 2016 and It used to be full and they were serving decent portion sizes. Now in 2019, there aren't many people and they are now serving smaller portion sizes. A large chips here is a small chips at my local one. But I give them 4 stars as the food tastes great and the kind owner has kept the shop running. They just need to boost the portion sizes a bit more and then customers will be even happier! Thank you anyway! (To be fair, It is one of the only chippy's for miles around 😁)

Lovely little takeaway, owners very obliging. Have had the chicken and lamb shish several times now and never dissatisfied always cooked to order either go for a swift glass of wine or ring it through and collect. Chips generally good, but not as good as the shish.

5* price for a 2* meal. I hadn't been to this fish and chip shop for quite some time and was really looking forward to my return. I wish I hadn't. It's changed hands since I was there last and things have changed... but not for the better. The cosy little eating area, just up a set of steps, has now been blocked off, leaving just a few tables near the counter. The whole place now has a tired and dilapidated look and feel to it. I'm sure the fish was half the thickness of fish in other establishments. The first indication of that was just how much it had curled up when cooked! The next thing I noticed was that the batter was twice the thickness of the fish. The chips, which used to be the best for miles around, were also thin, wrinkled and obviously cooked sometime earlier than we arrived. The whole meal, for 2, was in my opinion, worth no more than £10... which is why the £21 price tag came as such a surprise! Needless to say, I won't be returning to this run-down, sad little chippy again.

I went into this fish and chippy. I have often picked up the odd bag when visiting Usk on a nice day to eat by the River. On this occasion I saw on his menu board on the inside of the shop that you could purchase a medium sized bag of chips for £1.75.I got to the counter and asked the owner /server for a medium sized bag. I had the chips and when he gave me my change he had charged me for a large portion. I drew his attention to this and his was reply was no it was £2 and he didn't seem to care about what I ahd said. After leaving the chippy feeling that this arrogant man didn;t care about customer service or my custom I vowed never to go in there again until there is a better owner. The chips were a good portion but very Greasy.

Found hair in my food and was under cooked! Wouldn't go back again!!!

Not very traditional but fair prices

Quite acceptable fish and chips, other products are on the menu such as pies, drinks etc.There are also a range of set meals for say two or four people. It is possible to phone an order through plus delivery service.

We had the misfortune of stopping here on a recent visit to Usk. We ordered a number of items including a pizza. We were told that the pizza would take 45 minutes and to come back. We walked into the near by town and returned. There was a small queue when we returned not because of the quality of food on offer but because of the ridiculously long wait for the food. When we received our food, in all honestly it was the worst takeaway food I have we have ever eaten, especially the awful pizza (meat feast) whose taste I can't even describe. It was do bad it wad inedible and just seemed to be topped with mush and no flavour I recognised. I really feel sorry for the people in this town if this is the only take away in town. Anyone opening another such business would make a killing as this was truly a dreadful experience and the worst food I have eaten in 50 years and than.includes my Uni days!

Tried chip shop a couple of times getting worse each time. Large portion of chips really small even asked at counter if that was large. Fish cake ok. Sausage in batter cheap and disgusting!!That was the last time I will be going. Three strikes and out!!

Friendly guy serving and the food was a respected from a local chippy. Been here a few times. They also do nice kebabs.

My fish was raw in the middle and when I went complain I was told that the chef didn't do mistake in his 25 years carrier. Also to check the fish, he put his fingers in to check and refused to five me money back, even when I have asked only to refund fish as I have finished the chips. So rude!

This chip chop has had a chequered past over the past few years with several owners some of whom did ok, some didn’t.

The place looks a bit cluttered and dirty which is off putting.

Had pie chips and curry sauce. The chips were from the day before. Awful. The pie had seen better days! And the curry sauce was salty as hell! A fiver wasted. Will never eat there again.

The chips are very poor quality. The potatoes they use there to cook are cheap and the oil they cook is leaves an unfavorable taste. I will not go there again until the present owner/cook has gone. I use to get chips regularly there under the previous owner.

popped in on Monday lunchtime while working for the second time in 2 weeks and had fresh cooked very nice chips not soggy , just as i like; very polite and friendly staff. will return again even worth traveling for in my opinion the new owner i think will excel here

Very good food which is served Hot! Good selection of fish/pies and others available. Will be made fresh to order if not in cabinet , and with only a short wait time.

Asked for curry & chips, you get more ketchup in a 20p packet then the curry had on my chips! Not the first time this is happened. Guess he's taking the advantage of not having another chip shops in the area so beggars can't be choosers.

Recently exchanged hands and new owners are hard working and have increased the menu to include kebabs. Fish and chips very good though.

the past few years with different owners were very bad but the new owner is amazing , he is friendly very chatty and has the best food , all of it is handmade in the back the pizza’s are traditional and the kebabss are amazing because he is from turkey , I would recommended the tasty tub because you get a lot for your money . The chips are amazing as well .

Probably the worst takeaway we’ve ever had. Batter was under cooked, and the curry didn’t resemble curry at all. Overpriced and put most of it in the bin. To add insult wasn’t provided with any kind of cutlery to eat our cod and chips with curry sauce in the park! Should have taken heed when another customer brought his food back! Also there were flies all over the kebab meat and the whole shop looks stinking.

I gave my local chippy a very poor review a few years ago, but now it is much improved. They now also offer Burgers and Kebabs but the best thing is if you ask for crispy chips and they will double cook them to chippy nirvana.

I've visited this chippie twice -- first time Feb 2018, recently 23rd May 2018. On both occasions the service was good & friendly and the fish was good, but the chips were poor.
