Dry, tasteless, grilled chicken in the Katsu curry. Very little cheese in the poor quality tuna panini. Drinks good as usual in any Weatherspoons. Service ok.

Scruffy entrance, uncleared tables problem with meal. Changed salad with meal to have peas instead and resulting in not getting anything in place of. Told meal doesn't come with peas so should go without. The waitress tried to deal with it by I asked for the manager who took to long to respond and finally got a result. Though as usual same excuses we are busy and etc etc.

Stopped for a quick lunch on route home. Although I understand home’ cooking is not what you get at a Spoons and meals are priced accordingly. But I would have expected the ‘chef ‘ to at least shake up the microwave Uncle Bens rice which was served like half a brick next to half a bowl of chilli. It just smacked of lazy food prep and lack of consideration for the customer experience. Not too much to ask.. priced at £8.99, which is a deal with a drink of you serve something that at looks like something you don’t mind eating. Come on The Kings Head surely you can do better, so many nice places to eat in the town I would avoid this one.

All the positive reviews are from a better time. I used to trust this pub chain. A few years ago. Recently moved to Monmouthshire. From the outside this wonderful historical hotel promises to be a great place for a Weatherspoons. But inside it's just huge grubby and old fashioned. The beer selection is ok and admittedly a much better choice than anywhere else locally . It's cheap. But the food!! Oh dear just not good enough even being cheap. Come on Tim, get involved in training the British staff to do the jobs Jonny foreigner used to be so good at

We always go here for breakfast when we shop in the town. Overall not a bad pub only downsides tables are not cleaned and the walkway to the toilets smells really bad. Food is abit hit and miss sometimes we go and it’s beautiful and hot, other times it’s been disappointing. I will say it’s improved as the last few visits there haven’t been as many school kids in there as there usually is so I’m assuming they have been stopped. Nice pub, good food most of the time, friendly staff and generally a good atmosphere.

Massive Old pub which wetherspoons have restored well . They have kept a lot of the old layout so there’s about 5 separate rooms and a small beer garden . Pub was fairly quiet when we visited but found it hard to find a table as tables were not cleared or cleaned Also ordered food and drinks on app . Food came quickly after 20 mins but could see drinks waiting on bar for 10 mins so eventually went and got them myself

Wanted something for filling after a day walking along the Wye Valley, knew what we would get and for value for money you can't beat it, couple of meals and drinks plus sides for 15 quid. We had visited a few times before during our stay as drink prices were unbeatable, a beer and wine for under £4. The food was standard what we expected, we know someone who works in a Spoons where we live so not frills large portions was what we wanted on this day. On several visits during our stay tables were left uncleared a little disappointing didn't seem to be a lack of staff. The building as with most Spoons is stunning, nice and roomy generally clean with exception of some tables as mentioned, nice outdoor space.

When I pointed out that the people sitting next to us had been served full breakfasts, and could we have the same, but without bacon and sausages, I was refused. This was all in spite of the pub claiming to be vegetarian friendly! We ended up with two slices of toast (which were vegetarian and were available!).I'm both and annoyed ,but even more perplexed. Also, the photocopied menus are too small to read.

Absolutely disgusting we are part of a community and just because we don’t have Id does not mean we deserve to be treated that way. I can't remember the first time that I visited the Kings Head, I was a little boy, so a long, long time ago. My Dad was an enthusiastic visitor of pubs, hotels and hotels with bars and the KH was a favourite back in the 60's. So when I moved back to the area about 8 or 9 months ago I immediately made a pilgrimage to the KH. Now I'm an admirer of the 'spoons' model and I visited a fair few of their pubs over the years. My local in London, The Brockley Barge' was excellent. A proper egalitarian pub, unlike the others in the area that were definitely niche. I met there with my mates from the allotment society, where we'd discuss spuds and strawberries. I'd pop in for a swift one while waiting to pick up a takeaway from the Vietnamese noodle place around the corner. There was always someone that I knew in there. People from every strata of SE London society seem to be represented and welcomed. Happy days. One autumn week our street had a series of nightly power outages, we decamped to the 'spoons' as a family and ate there every night and played cards. As a chef myself I know what's on my plate and how it got there and I've always been impressed by 'spoons' it's general quality (not bad) and pricing. So let's skip back to the KH. It's a beautiful old rambling market town hotel,. In my youth it was populated by farmers and their dogs. In winter it smelled of musty tweed, damp sheep dog, beeswax and wood smoke. Some of that atmosphere has been retained, 'spoons' interior designers are experts at this, they make the spaces usable, manageable and easy to be in. Some are downright spectacular. So it's still nice to visit the KH. But and this is such a massive but, the kitchen here is a woeful, miserable place. The people slinging the food on the plates either have no idea what they are doing or just don't care. Before I elaborate, you might think 'he's a chef, he's bound to be hyper critical'. Not so, I appreciate food businesses at either end of the scale and have worked in them. I've served up burgers from a trailer in a field and I've worked in high end restaurants, I appreciate the efforts of all food makers, wherever they've pitched themselves. The 'spoons' offerings are easy, there's very little prep, everything arrives chilled and ready to rock. So you'd think putting a gammon steak on a grill, frying a handful of chips and a couple of eggs wouldn't be too much of a challenge. Not so at the KH. Similarly you'd think that putting a little tray of cottage pie in a microwave wouldn't boggle the mind of even the least skilled person, unfortunately not. Yesterday as I stared balefully at my plate with it's two overcooked eggs with their dried up yolks, the strangely shaped slice of gammon covered in pustules of carbonised dreck from the dirty grill that it had come from and the mean handful of warm chips. I though, I'm going to do a review on this place as every time I've been in here the food has been bleeding awful. Frankly, I'd be embarrassed to send this stuff out to anyone. The two ladies next to me also sent their food back because it was cold. I hadn't eaten properly for a couple of days so I solemnly chewed my way through the plate of sadness. I didn't complain, I have in the past and the staff are properly apologetic, they don't offer any reason for theses culinary aberrations as they know exactly what's wrong. There's is nobody in the kitchen that cares about what they are doing. Simple as that. I can forgive food businesses that try but get things wrong, I can't forgive people who are serving food to paying customers and who can't be bothered to even try. If I could I'd give a zero for the food and value, yes it's cheap but if it's horrid it's not good value. Sorry 'spoons' that it is my final visit to the old KH and I say that with sadness.

Living mid way between Ross and Monmouth I have eaten at both restaurants over the years. But prefer to travel the extra distance to Monmouth. Its got a great pub atmosphere and the staff are very helpful and friendly. The food is good, have never had a bad steak meal here. The burger selection is good and on our most recent visit we enjoyed a curry which was tasty, my only small complaint was the onion bhaji was over cooked and crispy. Me and my partner often pop down for breakfast and that is such great value, although the beans are sometimes only just warm and I'd like them a little bit hotter, but again it's just a small niggle. Love the choice of cider and my partner the real ale!!

I stayed in the hotel here overnight , which was excellent, and couldn't be bothered to go out looking for somewhere else to eat on a cold damp winter evening. I rather wish I had. It was a quiet evening with less than 20 people in, but somehow they had developed a queue of four of them at the bar with one girl serving who seemed to be struggling with doing anything. It took three tries to find a table that you didn't stick too and when my veg. burger turned up it was borderline sending it back as it was only just hot enough for me. It was also a new recipe, so called. Pretty stodgy with only the lightest smears of the guacamole and humus that were highlighted on the menu. I would definitely recommend eating elsewhere, but the beer was kept well.

A barn-like setting here and probably the toughest steak of my long life sent us elsewhere to eat on the following days

We visited here on Sunday for a light bite, I feel as though I must leave a comment as the duty manager on shift was brilliant! He told me that he had only just been there a few days, anyhow he was really friendly and helpful when i requested to change a food dish, he then brought out the meal of my choice and checked back 5 minutes later. I have to congratulate him on his excellent customer service manners... we were very impressed ! Sorry I did not take his name :-/

The King's Head is a fantastic pub with cheap drinks and a historic interior that's fairly bright as well. The beer garden isn't stunning but its not too bad either. This a must visit for those who like historic pubs.

You get what you pay for in a Wetherspoons chain but I have to say it was a lovely meal, with extremely fast service. Courteous and friendly staff.

We usually visit this place every week for a relaxing meal at lunch time..Unfortunately we had to put up with one of the off duty female staff being drunk and very loud. I mentioned this unexceptible behaviour to the on duty manager only to be told “people like her, keeps there cash till ringing!!!! “No apology’s, nothing other than a stupid reply...... Therefore all I can say is that the training from Witherspoon’s need to be seriously looked into??

We called in here on the steak night but it was so busy we left so tried again on curry night. We managed to get a table but I was so disappointed no vegetarian left. I chose the Vegetarian lasagne which I must say was very nice. They were doing a special 7.5% off that night something to do with tax, this was a surprise . The service because they are so busy was a little slow. They even started running out of glasses. My partner had the lalfreizi curry which he said was very nice. The beer choices were very good. It is a lovely old building with beautiful flowers hanging up out side. The next morning we called again but so busy we left. They do a roaring trade in this Wetherspoons.

Standard Wetherspoons really, nothing to fault. Service was quick and the food was lovely. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed her dessert, cookie sandwich with salted caramel.

My wife spent several minutes tonight trying to explain what she wanted to order to a young lad who was obviously new and not completely trained. Another member of staff had to come over and give my wife a cash refund on things she had not ordered and completed the order without showing the lad where he had gone wrong. When my meal arrived it was not what was ordered. When I approached one of the on duty managers, he took my meal to the kitchen to rectify the order. After a minute or so he returned to once again clarify what had been ordered. I was left with the side orders I had ordered going cold whilst waiting for my main to arrive. When it arrived it was still not what I had ordered and paid for. Nobody came back to the table to ask if things were ok. We came to the King Head from Ross on Wye due to the poor service at the Mail rooms. Guess the answer is not to go to Weatherspoons. Not even a sorry, just take the money and run.

This is a very large pub and located at the top of the hill in this historic town. Today for lunch I ordered an ultimate burger which came with a glass of orange. Although I should comment that £7.35 for this meal is a bit pricey, it was well prepared and tasted fine. A nice pub with an abundance of side rooms and interesting photographs on the walls.

My friend booked a table for six a good six weeks in advance, only to find on turning up there was no record of our booking. It was only by luck that as the customer foot print was low that we were able to get a table. When we asked what went wrong reference our booking, no explanation was given. This would never have happened under the previous ownership.

A solid Wetherspoons. Service was quick and efficient despite it being absolutely rammed. Tables clean and staff were very proactive in doing rounds to remove dishes and glasses that you were finished with. Generally seemed to have a lot more staff than most Wetherspoons pubs - maybe they employed more people for the busy Christmas period. Food was quickly delivered to the table and what exactly what you'd expect: no thrills and good enough for the money - especially given how cheap a decent pint of cider is here.

Great staff and great food. Very good with my odd allergy.Would highly recommend it as it's the best Chinese in the area, I moved a little further away from abergavenny but still travel for this chinese takeaway as I have not found better! Thank you to the staff for their patients and professionalism, and the food is 👍

We’ve been in the restaurant a couple of times now. We especially liked the helpful young man who takes you to your seat. The food has been consistently good and would definitely recommend. The jacket potato with mushroom, bacon and Stilton is a winner with me!
