What an excellent visit we had! The bar staff and landlady were so welcoming and funny, we could have stayed for hours. Dogs welcome too, perfect stop off on our canal boat holiday, would most certainly return.

Sadly, the kitchen here was temporarily closed due to lack of staff but the landlady was so incredibly helpful we will be back for a meal as soon as we can. She even rang around the local pubs to find one which could do food for six of us. You cannot get any more amicable or helpful than that!

Unfortunately due to an ongoing police enquiry I am now leaving a review to say how ashamed that a man the size of Ken the owner, could violently attack a young couple (I am late twenties) for an opinion unfortunately he didn’t like. Racist bigot idiot who had too much to drink in his own pub. My partner has scars all on his neck from where Ken had dug his nails into him. Luckily my partner and I had only 2 drinks that night and my partner was very calm, didn’t make one attempt to attack Ken back but instead asked for us to be let go. The bar lady who was on the larger side, had my arm gripped so hard not letting me help my partner who was pinned against a door by ken. I was so shocked and scared that someone could be like this, especially coming up to a woman so aggressively putting his face against mine spitting in my face. We are new to the area from Birmingham and were repeatedly told we were not welcome here that we were not from here. AVOID.

Called in here Monday evening as we were returning a hire boat. We were hoping to eat in one of the pubs in the village but this was the only one open. Didn't do food but the landlady kindly offered to order us a takeaway and have it delivered to the pub. The landlady and the locals were very friendly and there is a nice atmosphere in the pub. CV-19 restrictions were in place and we felt very safe.

I spent a week in Gilwern and went into this pub for the first time on the Monday and within half an hour it felt my local. Friendly landlady and customers, everybody up for a chat and a laugh. I enjoyed it so much I went there every day with Sacha, my dog (very dog friendly!) for the rest of my holiday. I would definitely visita gain when next in the area. (unfortunately no food when I was there - due to covid restrictions, but I was told it's very good!)

No food at this time, but what a wonderful Landlady, really freindly, helpful & down to earth. Considering the present climate with restrictions in place, she had utilised the carpark for drinkers & allowed Take a Way food to be delivered & consumed on the premise's.

We had flown into LHR and driven to Chepstow Castle and Tintern Abbey before heading to Gilwern to stay the night. We walked into the Corn Exchange and (even though everyone could tell we weren’t local) were greeted by Tracey and treated amazing. We had amazing food, great beer and even better company. Tracey even organized a slice of birthday cake for my girlfriend before the end of the night. It was a fantastic start to our trip and would highly recommend! P.s- try get a seat near the fire!! (Just make sure to move when the gentlemen come in to play cards)

The landlady made us so welcome. Drinks ordered we were soon shown to our table. There were pies and curry of the day and a special of chilli. The service was great and we were soon diving into our starters. Local beers featured at the bar along with some Welsh gins. A good experience.

Delicious food, good value and very friendly welcome from the landlady. Perfect way to unwind at the end of a slightly chilly day out on the canal!

Landlady pulled out all the stops for my walking group. Allowed us to park our cars whilst out walking, run our charity raffle, put on food and always had a smile, even under pressure. Excellent service, we will definately return. Thank you.

Called there for Sunday roast. Oh dear...firstly you stuck to the table, waited absolutely ages for the meal even though it wasn’t busy. Wrong order arrived so sent back, asked for English mustard, told no point him looking as haven’t got any! Food was pretty awful. Once bitten as they say...

A quick stop after a walk along the nearby canal. Very small pub, lots of regular locals. Plenty of room and tables outside so took drinks there. Great beer, good prices. Staff were friendly, but maybe a little quiet with tourists.

We stopped here for a drink whilst hiking one Sunday lunchtime. Our joy at finding a pub was lessened when we approached to find a lone smoker blocking the main entrance. We wondered if it was closed. We ventured to the side door and were pleased it was open. The bar maid lacked any charm at all and everyone in the bar stared incessantly at us. We sat outside and had our drinks whilst several drinkers came outside to smoke. Given a choice, don't choose here!

One of the nicer pubs in Gilwern, we visited after being disappointed with another pub and found the Corn Exchange very accommodating and enjoyable

A recommander.

Muchas gracias. Disfrutamos mucho de nuestra estancia allí.

My partner and I came here to check out the Detroit pizza and cocktails. The service was fast and super friendly, plus they catered for my nut allergy really well. Being dog friendly, we took out 12 yo labrador Alffi who had fun, plus and Utterly Mutterly ice-cream! We had the 1/2 and 1/2 Detroit pizza, a mix of Bloody Mary and the porcini mushrooms. It was DELISH, the portion was also massive meaning we took half home for tea, making it 2 meals in 1. My partner had the Detroit IPA which was hoppy and fresh. I had the Shepherd and Welsh Wanderer cocktails. Very strong, delicious and well presented. We have friends that live locally and will absolutely be back to check out the Sunday slices, bring our dogs and have some more pizza and cocktails. Thanks Lee & co for fab hospitality.

Recently refurbished and Rebranded as "Fire & Fork" promising a " a traditional American barbecue experience". No Bread available before Starters. - Pork Burnt Ends - Mixture of under and over cooked chunks of pork in a sickly sweet, slightly spicy smoked sauce. Need something acidic to cut through all the fat came with "Texas "Toast", Stale slice of bloomer spread with an unidentifiable substance. Beef Cigars - Lovely shredded beef in a crispy pancake style roll with a rich, smoked Garlic Mayo. Mains - XL Short Ribs not available so both ordered the 10 Hour Smoked Brisket. Served as described on menu. No discernable smoked crust or flavour to the Brisket. No mustard available at this restaurant. No Napkins provided, asked twice, got some from another table. we dealt with our cutlery shortage similarly. No water provided when requested. Inexperience of the staff evident but more than made up for by their enthusiasm and wish to please. Two Starters, Two Mains, Three pints and a Short / Mixer - £92. Option to add tip to card payment. Cash tip direct to server. This place has lots of potential but needs to overcome teething problems before one will consider a return
