Portico Lounge in Monmouthshire

Cosy venue for food & drinks. We went as a party of 6. Thoroughly enjoyed the food. We ordered via the website. (QR code on the table) . The lights dimmed later on which have it a lovely cosy feel.

Unchanging but wide-ranging menu; no need to book, just walk in.

Excellent service and food in a relaxed atmosphere....the prices are pretty good as well, I was pleasantly surprised at the bill for 3 of us.

Always do lovely food and the Shakshouka eggs are brilliant!

We wanted a nice light lunch and my partner wanted a nice soup. We were so glad we were able to see the large clear menu on the window before we decided to go in. We were given a nice table for 2 in the far corner of the very large restaurant. I must say the venue was buzzing with a great atmosphere, due to the towns Christmas lights switch on. Our lunch was really nice. My partner was taken back on how nice her Roasted Carrot Soup was. Well done the kitchen team on this… Highly recommend this venue if visiting this beautiful town.

We visited on a Saturday evening in November, very busy with a good atmosphere. Solid food as expected. Good for a relaxed dinner. Note that there is not table service, you either go to the bar or order from the QR code at the table.

Yet again ingredients missing from my meal.This seems to happen quite a lot.

Comfortable and clean venue. Generous portion size. We had the cooked breakfast, very tasty and quality sausage and bacon.

Love this place. Staff were on it despite being busy. Such a chill vibe, lush food. Family friendly and dog friendly (downstairs). Lots of interesting art throughout the whole building which gives a slightly quirky air combined with the tunes. It's stimulating yet relaxing. Fab establishment with great staff and yummy food. Vegan and gluten free available as well. Got it all covered 👌🏻

Absolutely fantastic, amazing food and lovely staff !

Restaurant in pretty Abergavenny’s pedestrianised centre. We secured the sitting/dining area in front of a large open window onto the street and enjoyed burgers, chips and egg dishes. With coffee, the bill for five (including a 2-year old) came to £51.55. The service was a bit on the slow side and we would have appreciated the recorded music being less intrusive.

Relaxing surroundings excellent friendly staff and great food

Usually great food in all Lounges.... However, this time they let me down a bit. The flatbread was so tough I couldn't get a knife through it. I was given a steak Knife and that didn't work well either. I was offered ( by the fabulous staff) to have it sent back and bring another one, but time was short so I struggled on. I had great Sweet potato chips. The venue was very clean, and everything else was great.

we went in today , read the menu on table, sat there for 15min waiting, one young lady was going around cleaning tables the whole time, passing us but not a word or service and another worker a man was there but seem to be showing in his wife and child in and getting them all sorted at a table, after the 15 minute with no service or any staff looking out way we got up and left. such a shame it looked nice and the menu had a lot to offer .

We love the Lounges in general, with their excellent menu that caters for gluten free. So Portico was a bit of a shock. After fifteen minutes, I cleaned our table myself, with the spray and cloth from by the tills. Then we ordered. My buddha bowl had no pomegranate seeds, and my wife's chicken, bacon & avocado salad had no dressing, no seeds, and no parmesan (and no explanation). It did have a cherry tomato: ONE tomato, cut into four! It was a quiet early evening in the Lounge, perhaps the locals are already aware this is one to avoid.

Stopped here after another establishment stopped serving,, I had the bacon cheese burger with fries and a latte.. Lovely food presented well. Highly recommend if your in the area.

Been here several times and it was our go to when in Abergavenny. Normally quite a pleasant meal but this time a couple of things spoilt the occasion. When ordering Hummus the pitta bread used to be around 6-8 small triangles that come with it. However since the prices have gone up they supply only 4 small pieces of pitta, not enough to dip in the Hummus. My wife went back up to the bar and asked if we could have more pitta as there was insufficient supplied. She was charged £2.50! Ten minutes later we got another 4 small pieces. Worst time there ever I will go elsewhere next time.

Popped in for tea, having a quiet moment to myself after a stressful day.

Me and my partner had never been to the Portico Lounge before, but we will be returning. The food was amazing, with a huge selection to choose from on the menu, including a huge range of gluten free options, vegan and dairy free options.

It's really beautiful there. The people are super nice and the food was great. Of course there was typical English food: burgers 😂😂 In any case, it was great, very, very good and the vegan version was also perfect for me. Absolutely recommended.

Amazing place to eat. Staff are friendly. Very clean and relaxing inside too. Table service should be a thing though. They have a lovely selection of wine and Food is presentable And tasted great. My kids love the burgers. Regular customers and would recommend especially with winter nights coming.

Been here a few times and enjoyed the food and ambiance however had an awful experience while sitting near the bar. Miscommunication over my order not a big deal but was shocked by the way the staff talked about me and the attitude to the mistake on my order because they assumed we wouldn’t hear. When the staff came back over they offered no apology and when I said what I heard the girl at the bar pulled a disgusted face. the staff had no response, We up and left, my friend that accompanied me left her food barely eaten. I was shaking and feeling humiliated when we left. Waste of our money and I didn’t even get to eat.

Great vegan selection but food took a while to come

Visited after a terrific experience in the lounge (Drago) in Newport. Wife had the same breakfast again (Miami Brunch) and loved it again. I wanted the Shashuka but it was available neither was my choice of drink (fresh lemonade). Had the chicken flatbread which was very lovely Would have been 5 stars had it not been for the missing items. A lovely place I'd highly recommend. Service was brilliant

We found this restaurant by pure chance and have thoroughly enjoyed the food and the very friendly staff. It is open from morning til late evening, which is impressive. We had the Tapas and churros, which was very good. We found the music a little bit loud, but the staff kindly turned it down a bit for us! We have enjoyed our visit and wish we had a portico lounge in our home town.

I've been to many lounges now, while I wouldn't choose a chain restaurant if I can help it, I am vegan and my wife is gluten-free. Lounges tend to be a safe bet for everyone to have some options. I have been to lounges where the food has been mediocre but here it was surprisingly good. The staff were very accommodating and in good spirits considering it was a very hot Sunday evening. Service was prompt as well.

Lots of choice in vegetarian and vegan! We were in Abergavenny for four nights and ate here four times, we thought it was that good!

Once again the staff went above and beyond to make me feel welcome even with my dietary restrictions looking forward to coming back again

Young attractive staff, plenty of banter

Family reunion. Staff were lovely and helpful. Just a shame music far too loud, as it was noisy with people anyway. Hard to hear conversations. Others in the party had good food but my Medium Rare steak was overdone and tough, the dog got most of it!. They are very dog friendly.

Lovely welcoming staff, very child friendly and relaxed, took my 5yr old and 8yr old for lunch, great service and good food. Will definitely visit here again.

I had the chicken and bacon bowl. It was quite nice but had to play spot the chicken. Very few bits yes tiny frazzled bits not the usual amount. Puts me off ordering this again. But saying that my daughter ordered the veggie breakfast that was amazing. My son in-laws food and my partners food was also good.

Best breakfast we've had in a long time proper food cooked properly. Worth every penny not many places like this about these days unfortunately but cooked us a banger cheers bro 😋

We come once or twice a week and absolutely love it!! The service is the staff are amazing so friendly and kind. The food is always spot on! Never had a complaint of us and even the drinks are great. It's also dog friendly, we always have a dog or two with us and they are also treated well. Couldn't recommend it enough! 5 stars all round! 😁

Beautiful place, really! Lots of paintings- you can feel like in art gallery. It’s very nice. Service excellent and food so fresh and delicious. It’s our second visit and we will definitely back again

Popped into this lounge on the way to an event. Massively disappointed, I ordered drinks at the table, waited 25 mins and no drinks arrived. I was told by the staff that the order had not gone through even though it had charged my card and sent me a confirmation email and they had a record of it on their till. I asked for a refund as I was on route to an event and couldn’t wait any longer. The faff to get a refund was ridiculous, I was told it would take 3 or more days to refund on my card even though it charged my card immediately. I visit other loungers regularly and have never had anything but a great experience so I thought I knew what I was getting, but this lounger was frankly terrible, staff didn’t seem bothered and one was quite rude. My experience was far from what I expected and I’m not 100% sure I’ll actually receive my full refund for the drinks I didn’t get, but I’m 100%sure I will not be going there again.

We often visit for tapas on a Sunday. Good choice of food. Staff always super friendly and helpful. Food super tasty. Chilled out vibe at locaton.

Another great lounge restaurant, lovely staff with quick service and good location in town. Halloumi burger and fries with hash browns with a chocolate Oreo milkshake and the cowboy burger with beef brisket and sweet potato fries and the amaretti smash.

Service was great, really impressed how attenuative the staff were. We got the tapas deal for lunch with several drinks, cannot complain at the taste of either.

Unfortunately I won’t be returning here again. Our food turned up with a missing slaw and salami on another dish. No replacement offered and not informed when ordering. Food was ok, nothing to shout above, An overcooked chicken burger.

Came here with my partner as we were looking for somewhere cosy to have breakfast while on a little getaway just outside Abergavenny. Breakfast was amazing, especially the mushrooms! As we were on holiday, I finished breakfast off with the chocolate and raspberry torte, which was beautiful and I will definitely be coming back just for that. Staff were so welcoming and relaxed, could not recommend enough 🙌🏻

Went here with my daughter who was moaning that she wanted a hot chocolate. And then a lovely lady brung her one full of marshmallows on the house, thank you!!

Food is great and staff are always so friendly - but it can just be so slow to even get a pint. Otherwise though, a really lovely spot (and very dog friendly!)

Disappointed in our lunch today. Been here a few times and have had lovely food but unfortunately not today. Cold food and not much on the plate for the £11.50. I have an intolerance to eggs so had the dish without and requested the chorizo accompaniment instead. There were just a couple teaspoons of chopped chorizo on the plate Which I was charged for. There was a table of 8 besides us who also complained that their food was cold. We waited more than 30 minutes for our cold food to arrive although it was a very busy Saturday afternoon.

It's always lovely at Portico Lounge. The food is excellent (especially the Tapas selections), and washed down with some wonderful wine. The staff are always very pleasant and efficient, and the atmosphere is always welcoming.

Ordered a drink when the place wasn’t that busy 30 minutes wait

Went in for a light lunch chose pita bread with topping of spicy chicken with bits and bobs on top and fries between us the pitta was rather hard to cut so I asked the waitress to ask kitchen to cut it for us she came back with a fresh one that was delicious two glasses of wine each we had a perfect lunch would go back again and would definitely have the same

Ist time eating there and will go again. Lovely restaurant/coffee place with friendly helpful staff. Wheelchair friendly and disabled toilet. Big plus too is their huge Gluten Free menu, which my delighted my friend.

Popped into the Portico today with my wife. Fantastic food and attentive service from all the staff. The chef on today was Maddy who deserves a particular complement as my meal was the best I’ve had in a lounge and my wife had perfectly cooked poached eggs. Highly recommended.

The smashed avocado dish is delicious! They allow dogs, and the service is quick. Gets busy, but you can reserve a table. Good sized coffees make it good value.

What an awesome gem this is. Was treated to a meal put here, after they visited previously. They did not dissappoint. Prices are in line with most bistro, pubs, restaurants. But the quality was stunning. Portions were brilliant, the chips... wow. The chips/fries were some of the best I've ever had. The menu is large, and I always worry when there's a large menu. But this place smashed every meal. We arrived early for our reservation, staff welcomed us in, and even asked if we wanted the food early too which we did. Staff were brilliant. Friendly, and working in a very busy environment, which is testament to them. The drinks, wow. Menu again was large, and they all were amazing. The lemonades, the smoothies, were stunning. We have already agreed to return in June when the family are in town again. Csnt wait to come back. Thank you to everyone who was there today, and what a gem of a place. 10/10

Standing out front, I was wondering if we should go to JD's or this place. I really wished we had gone to JD'S. Dogs all over the place. Food took over an hour, and for 3 milkshakes with a bill of over £50 it is not worth it. Staff at the bar where you have to order your food are abrupt and give the impression they would rather not be working. Just do yourself a favour and go somewhere else. It is not worth the money...

Food was awful. soggy and cold ciabatta, service poor. First time here and the last. Waitress came over and asked if everything was ok and walked away before we could tell her about the meal. Not impressed. Presentation of the food looks at of it was thrown on the plate. Overall not happy.

Delicious food and great atmosphere. Some of the pints are a little expensive. Other than having to clear your own table now and then I can't complain.

Garlic ciabatta was amazing and tasted so good Potato bravas were good but there were a couple of undercooked ones in there? Quesadillas were okay but more soggy than crispy Chicken Wings were pretty greasy

Had a lovely spare of the moment meal with my husband. Food was banging. Cocktails were lush. Serving staff were really inviting too.

Had a great time celebrating a birthday at Portico lounge, service was good once a misunderstanding regarding pre-booked meals was resolved, the manager made sure we were looked after. Definitely recommend this place.A*****

A really fantastic place with friendly and attentive staff and great tasty food. My wife and I were just looking for somewhere to eat on a Sunday afternoon and popped in here. The food was really lovely and the atmosphere was very cosy. A real gem of a place with the food prepared to a level that is a step up from other lounges we’ve visited.

I’ve been here quite a few times and the service is always lovely. Food is nice with a huge variety of dishes! They even have a whole gluten free menu. One of the biggest pros for me is the all day breakfast, which you can’t find in most places! You can also order to your table so there’s no need to go up to the bar to place your order. It has 2 floors and it’s dog friendly in the downstairs area. There’s also parking nearby so the restaurant is just a short walk.
