The Grofield Inn in Monmouthshire

We had a fantastic Sunday lunch on 11th February. As we had our dogs with us, we had to eat in the covered area in the garden. It was warm and comfortable, and the staff were frequently on hand to bring our drinks, food and anything g else we needed. We had been concerned that the seating area would have been cold, but quite the opposite. I was wearing a t shirt and found it to be really comfortable. As for the food. It was really good. I have had many okish Sunday dinners, but this wasn't one of them. I couldn't fault it as we left feeling comfortably full. Many thanks for a great experience. We will definitely return.

Great pub, friendly, smiling landlord, good food, great service, great atmosphere. Will be back next year when our car needs it's next service 🤔😉

I found the Grofield whilst browsing on line prior to visiting Abergavenny. It's just off the main street, but you'd be unlikely to come across it by accident. The pub has been tastefully refurbished. . They have two cask beers and a very well priced food menu. Drinks and food are table service, which was prompt and friendly. The beer and food were both excellent. They take reservations. We visited on a Friday lunchtime, it was busy, but there were still a couple of free tables. This was our first, but certainly not our last visit.

Fantastic home made pub food at a great price

Not Dog friendly and no signs at door to state this. Therefore, didn't have chance to sample the beer or food. Appears to be more food orientated than a drinking den.

We came to the Grofield for a works Christmas meal and get together. The food was amazing and all of the staff were very attentive and accommodating (and a good giggle!). Thank you to all for making it such a great night out!! I will be certain to recommend, especially the professionally made bar shots! 😀

Had a lovely Sunday lunch last week. I'm not normally one to have a roast dinner out as they can be very hit or miss. Have to say Grofield roasts are great. Meat is tender ( between us we had lamb, beef and turkey) good choice of veg and plenty of it. We ordered cauliflower cheese as an extra. Service was excellent and food tasty. Great atmosphere. Highly recommend.

2 chunks of chicken in a curry! Fair enough I ordered a lite bite, but this is "having a laugh". The meal cost £9.50. I feel i was ripped off. I was waiting for someone to come and ask if everything was alright with my meal, but no-one came. I will not go there again.

Had booked a Christmas roast for a party of 4, Turkey Christmas roast and Beef roast when it arrived the Yorkshire pudding was burnt black (been put under the grill to reheat?) sliced Beef stuck together the whole dinner seemed as if it had been reheated not a very good advert shame really as we have previously had reasonably good food here

We drove from Leicestershire to meet family who live in Wales & Abergavenny is a mid way point. Second time at Christmas we've met in the Grofield. The staff are very friendly and welcoming! And we were seated on the same table as last year so it now feels like 'our' table! Decorated for Christmas & the Christmas menu was fabulous.. the lamb was just beautiful! A lovely pub, lovely people, lovely food! (And we left the ice bag behind lol!) See you again we hope! X

The standard this pub sets is terrific with great food and a really friendly welcome and high levels of customer service. Lunches are always tasty and well presented and the ambience is relaxing, making you want to return.

Having read the reviews book this for Sunday lunch, pleasant atmosphere staff polite and friendly, good selection on the menu, when ordered food arrived within an acceptable time looked good and tasted fresh, overall a nice experience but would I visit again?

We booked dinner for 25 family and friends the day after my daughter’s wedding. Andrew couldn’t have been more accommodating with the pre-order booking and all commented on how delicious the meals were. Will definitely come back Kay November 2023

The staff were great and the vibe of the pub was good. The food wasn't the best. Came for a roast . We had a Eton mess for dessert and it was sad. It was one of the lowest effort desserts I've ever been served and it was also expensive! So I was really expecting more. The apple crumble had no dough and the apple wasn't properly cooked. Tasted more like apple sauce than a crumble. I always hate reviewing low especially when staff is great but the food was too shocking.

Came back for the steak and ale pie and wasn't disappointed. Friendly warm welcome and busy atmosphere. We had a tiny table tucked in the corner so felt a bit hemmed in. Highly recommended the place and will definitely return.

Lovely meal with friends. Sat in the garden area which is really attractive and has heaters. Reasonable choice of gluten free dishes too.

Had lunch there yesterday with family and friends and the food was amazing. Great service by the team and nothing was too much trouble. Portions were generous and reasonably priced. Thanks Andrew and team will definitely be coming back soon.

Friendly, good beer, excellent food.

If you are ever in the Welsh border town of Abergavenny and you are visiting the market, then you cannot get much better than the Grofield. The town is full of chain pubs, free houses ,cafes and independent eateries, that cater for all tastes and budgets . I chose to partake of lunch in this particular pub, which is one of Y Fenni's (the town's Welsh name) free houses. Tucked off Lewis's Lane a short stroll from the high street, this is one of Gavenny's hidden gems. The prices and food reflect a slightly more upmarket clientele, those who want to pay a little more but still want a bit of change. The Grofield is a family run pub, priding itself on freshly home cooked food. This is also slightly weird(however I wish not to be rude), it is clearly bar service, but unlike most others, you pay after consumption of your meal and beverage. Is this the norm or is it because I visited on a quiet Tuesday afternoon at around 2pm after the main lunchtime rush, that this was my assumption? Do they go to the table during the evening? On this visit I made a straight beeline for the BBQ chicken burger which was very freshly cooked with the sauce which covered the chicken being homemade on site. Very tasty. Puddings (currently) include a sticky toffee and a chocolate orange ganache. Wide range of beers including Estrella Damm, Staropramen and Madri. Also a wide selection of spirits and hot drinks. Generally an all round lovely pub and one you should look to visit when you visit one of Wales's best markets.

Great to be outside in lush beer garden

Just a lovely pub. I have visited here often with my Mum, Dad and crazy dog! The staff firstly are absolutely amazing, friendly and welcoming. The inside and garden areas are really lovely and spotlessly clean. The food is excellent with specials available daily. Totally dog friendly, the amazing member of staff who serves us regularly whose name I’m ashamed to say I don’t know, always works above and beyond to ensure we and the dog had a lovely time. Best pub in Abergavenny hands down.

We often visit The Grofield and sit in the beer garden, the staff are very friendly and the food is amazing.

First visit today for our Wedding Anniversary lunch! Fab food and service and a bonus being dog friendly only thing I'd add a bit of background music! Will definitely go back again!

Was recommended by two local business that this was good for a lunch. Spot on! Friendly staff, good food and great service. Beer not bad either!!

Definitely a place worth visiting if you're in the neighbourhood. I had my bicycle with me but was able to enter the beer garden through a side entrance/gate which makes it wheelchair friendly also; both bonus points. I had the steak sandwich; succulent streak strips, perfectly cooked with onions and mushroom between homemade ciabatta bread. Whether the ciabatta was actually homemade I do not know for sure, but it was advertised as such and tasted accordingly. I upgraded my chips to sweet potato and ordered peppercorn side too upon being asked by the waiter (Ed). Everything arrived promptly, warm and very tastefully presented; the chef definitely knows what they are doing. The bartender pours a nice pint, but forgot to bring a menu or inform Ed that I wanted one. That and the fact you must pay inside are the only 'negative' things I have to say about my experience here. Ed, you're a class waiter and I hope to have you serve me again next time I visit! Great food, great drinks, great service and a nice decor in the back beer garden with a mix of tables, lounges and benches.

Really great food, if your a pie addict like me you just got to try the steak and ale pie it's the best I've had in a long time. Friendly staff and fast service, this place was busy on a week day lunch time so I would of thought you would need to book on a weekend. A hidden gem, definitely going to go back.

Town centre pub with a nice garden behind the building. Had dinner in the garden which was very good. I had the steak with peppercorn sauce and chips which was well cooked and well presented. The others in my party had fish and chips and beef lasagna. Service is friendly and welcoming. Food arrived quickly. Good pub food at a good price.

A great pub, lovely food in a nice beer garden with excellent service.

I usually go for the steak because they clearly select good quality meat in this pub. Today, I decided to take a risk and go for the leg of lamb. I am saying it is a risk because I am not too keen on lamb meat, but also it is one of the hardest dishes to get right. I must say this was one of the best dishes that goes straightin my favourites book. Everything was cooked just right, the Yorkshire pudding, the roast veges, the gravy and they also seve one of the tastiest ale you can find. Absolutely delicious food. I always get warm welcome from the gentleman who seems to own and manages the place. The place wasn't too busy and they serve extremely fast. Maybe I was just lucky that I arrived at the right time. Great food and service, so nothingless than full 5 stars to this pub. If you're passing by Abergavenny, you would not want to miss this. Sorry for the messed up image. We’re local so we knew about the place but we asked the nice lady in our bank where we should go for lunch on this sunny day and she didn’t hesitate to tell us the garden at the Grofield. A warm welcome, a nice setting, attentive and friendly service of a tasty lunch with lager = happy customers.

Called in the pub a few times for food, lovely little enclosed beer garden which is dog friendly and has cover if needed. Always a good choice of food and drink. Food is always cooked perfectly, perhaps one or two green things to accompany the food may add to the plate. Service is outstanding and exemplary! Well done great place to eat or drink.

Booked a table here over Facebook messenger, the owner responded very quickly and efficiently. When we arrived the young man behind the bar was very polite as was the lovely waitress. The Easter Sunday Lunch didn’t disappoint, we had all three courses and everyone was of an excellent quality. We will definitely be returning and recommending to friends and family. Visited recently for Christmas Dinner was quite disappointed we all had 2 potatoes each the gravy was watery and the roast potatoes were shrivelled up. We received the bill and for some reason a pint of madri was added that we didn't have but was rectified. The dessert was lovely though its a nice little pub the rest of the food looked lovely

Went here for Sunday lunch, very basic to be honest. Gravy could be thicker and veg could of done with another 10 mins cooking, not much veg for 2 people. Staff are really nice, lovely decor and clean.

Great meals gf menu too lovely classy pub outside area also for eating and drinking. Good polite service looking forward to returning.
