Having recently moved to the area, my partner and I have made the Grofield Inn our local, despite it not being the closest pub to our house. We love the atmosphere and the food and drink. But most of all, we love the staff and their service - we are always made to feel welcome, and the staff are genuinely disappointed when we don't take our dog, Juniper, to the pub. Today, we had our first Sunday roast at the Grofield - 10/10.

Had Sunday lunch here, very tough, fatty beef, and the side order of cauliflower cheese was ridiculously hard. Then for dessert I ordered a fruit crumble, and to my disappointment the topping was just a crushed biscuit which was hard , and in no way resembled a traditional crumble. When I complained to the manager, he insisted that it ‘was a crumble’. I think he should revise what a crumble consists of before adding it to the menu.

We have been to the Garfield many times in the past. Today was a very nice day to sit out in the garden. We also noticed that they have upgraded their menu with lots of new entries. We had the Beef Madras and the Linguine with shrimp, respectively. The staff is always very lovely. I would definitely recommend.

I've wanted to try the Grofield ever since Covid times, when I saw their van delivering meals to customers when life was so difficult for so many. We finally went tonight and that caring community feel really comes through. Pleasant staff, prompt service, nice home cooked food. Excellent choice on the menu and prices are reasonable. We had lasagne and steak pie, both home made and both excellent. Nice beers on tap too. Highly recommend.

Very disappointed, we googled pubs in the Abergavenny area for dog Friendly. It showed the Grofield as being 'Totally Dog Friendly'. We walked into an empty pub and was asked to leave because we had a dog. When we mentioned the Internet advert they said you can sit outside if you like pointed out their advert. We had a fantastic Sunday lunch on 11th February. As we had our dogs with us, we had to eat in the covered area in the garden. It was warm and comfortable, and the staff were frequently on hand to bring our drinks, food and anything g else we needed. We had been concerned that the seating area would have been cold, but quite the opposite. I was wearing a t shirt and found it to be really comfortable. As for the food. It was really good. I have had many okish Sunday dinners, but this wasn't one of them. I couldn't fault it as we left feeling comfortably full. Many thanks for a great experience. We will definitely return.

I found the Grofield whilst browsing on line prior to visiting Abergavenny. It's just off the main street, but you'd be unlikely to come across it by accident. The pub has been tastefully refurbished. . They have two cask beers and a very well priced food menu. Drinks and food are table service, which was prompt and friendly. The beer and food were both excellent. They take reservations. We visited on a Friday lunchtime, it was busy, but there were still a couple of free tables. This was our first, but certainly not our last visit.

The staff were great and the vibe of the pub was good. The food wasn't the best. Came for a roast . We had a Eton mess for dessert and it was sad. It was one of the lowest effort desserts I've ever been served and it was also expensive! So I was really expecting more. The apple crumble had no dough and the apple wasn't properly cooked. Tasted more like apple sauce than a crumble. I always hate reviewing low especially when staff is great but the food was too shocking.

If you are ever in the Welsh border town of Abergavenny and you are visiting the market, then you cannot get much better than the Grofield. The town is full of chain pubs, free houses ,cafes and independent eateries, that cater for all tastes and budgets . I chose to partake of lunch in this particular pub, which is one of Y Fenni's (the town's Welsh name) free houses. Tucked off Lewis's Lane a short stroll from the high street, this is one of Gavenny's hidden gems. The prices and food reflect a slightly more upmarket clientele, those who want to pay a little more but still want a bit of change. The Grofield is a family run pub, priding itself on freshly home cooked food. This is also slightly weird(however I wish not to be rude), it is clearly bar service, but unlike most others, you pay after consumption of your meal and beverage. Is this the norm or is it because I visited on a quiet Tuesday afternoon at around 2pm after the main lunchtime rush, that this was my assumption? Do they go to the table during the evening? On this visit I made a straight beeline for the BBQ chicken burger which was very freshly cooked with the sauce which covered the chicken being homemade on site. Very tasty. Puddings (currently) include a sticky toffee and a chocolate orange ganache. Wide range of beers including Estrella Damm, Staropramen and Madri. Also a wide selection of spirits and hot drinks. Generally an all round lovely pub and one you should look to visit when you visit one of Wales's best markets.

Definitely a place worth visiting if you're in the neighbourhood. I had my bicycle with me but was able to enter the beer garden through a side entrance/gate which makes it wheelchair friendly also; both bonus points. I had the steak sandwich; succulent streak strips, perfectly cooked with onions and mushroom between homemade ciabatta bread. Whether the ciabatta was actually homemade I do not know for sure, but it was advertised as such and tasted accordingly. I upgraded my chips to sweet potato and ordered peppercorn side too upon being asked by the waiter (Ed). Everything arrived promptly, warm and very tastefully presented; the chef definitely knows what they are doing. The bartender pours a nice pint, but forgot to bring a menu or inform Ed that I wanted one. That and the fact you must pay inside are the only 'negative' things I have to say about my experience here. Ed, you're a class waiter and I hope to have you serve me again next time I visit! Great food, great drinks, great service and a nice decor in the back beer garden with a mix of tables, lounges and benches.

Terrible Customer Service – Zero Compassion or Communication! I booked a stay at the Beaufort Hotel through Booking.com but was unable to attend due to my partner unexpectedly going into labor. Obviously, this was an urgent and unforeseen situation. We contacted the hotel immediately to explain and request either a refund or to reschedule our stay, fully understanding that these things happen. However, the hotel's response has been utterly disappointing. Despite calling numerous times, we were constantly promised that someone would "call us back" — yet no one ever did. It’s now been weeks, and not a single follow-up. They have completely ignored multiple emails and requests through Booking.com as well. The complete lack of communication and empathy is appalling, especially considering the situation. We weren’t asking for anything unreasonable — just some basic customer service and decency. Clearly, they’re only interested in taking your money, and once they have it, don’t expect any help if something goes wrong. I strongly advise against booking with the Beaufort Hotel. Their customer service is non-existent, and they have shown zero compassion in handling our situation. Would give zero stars if I could. Avoid!

My partner and I came here to check out the Detroit pizza and cocktails. The service was fast and super friendly, plus they catered for my nut allergy really well. Being dog friendly, we took out 12 yo labrador Alffi who had fun, plus and Utterly Mutterly ice-cream! We had the 1/2 and 1/2 Detroit pizza, a mix of Bloody Mary and the porcini mushrooms. It was DELISH, the portion was also massive meaning we took half home for tea, making it 2 meals in 1. My partner had the Detroit IPA which was hoppy and fresh. I had the Shepherd and Welsh Wanderer cocktails. Very strong, delicious and well presented. We have friends that live locally and will absolutely be back to check out the Sunday slices, bring our dogs and have some more pizza and cocktails. Thanks Lee & co for fab hospitality.
