Met family in Chepstow and decided to grab lunch. Last minute walked into Beaufort Arms, they seated us immediately, service very friendly and excellent. 1 course £13.95, 2 courses £17.95, 3 - £21.95. 1 course was plenty, excellent food, all hot and tasty and plenty of it. A genuinely, lovely Sunday lunch.

4 of us had lunch here for a friend's belated-80th birthday today. Liz served us - friendly, helpful, and polite. Typical pub food menu. We all enjoyed our meals. Between us we had: fish n chips, haddock fish cakes & chips, chicken jalfrezi curry, half n half and 1 friend had 2 starters instead of a main: tempura battered prawns and calamari. 2 of us had apple crumble tart with custard which they both enjoyed. Toilets are up the stairs. Chepstow Town location.

My wife and I live in Chepstow and have been meaning to try the Sunday roast at the Beaufort for some time now, as we heard through the grapevine that it was pretty good. That's an understatement: it was nothing short of truly excellent. I'm so fussy about belly pork that I recently told my wife I wasn't going to order it any more because no one gets it right - but, our waitress at the Beaufort encouraged me to try it, as she said everyone seemed to like it. It was nothing short of OUTSTANDING - and they even got the crackling perfect! My wife ordered the roast chicken (which I sampled) and which was also excellent: tender and moist. The vegetables were also really nice. Nothing was overcooked, and all was very tasty. And the cauliflower cheese? Well, all I can say is, it was cauliflower cheese where you could actually TASTE the cheese! The only problem we had was that it was really too much to eat at one sitting, so we had to take some home with us in the 2 plastic containers they offered. And guess what?- I've already had some of it for breakfast this morning!!!!!!!!!! Service was very good and the ambiance is also very nice. Try it - you won't be disappointed! :-)

We often come 'over the bridge' for lunch, even more so now the toll has gone. Chepstow has lots of places to eat, from fish and chips to cream teas, but for us the Beaufort Arms is head and shoulders above the rest. The atmosphere is traditional with a quirky touch, very welcoming. For smokers there is a pretty courtyard at the rear, lined with tubs of flowers and there are tables out front to watch the world go by. The staff are friendly and efficient, happy to exchange a few words or to just take your order with a smile and leave you to your own thoughts, as you prefer. The food is good. We usually have the two course set menu, great value, offering a good choice (I recommend the roast of the day.) Lots of fresh veg, and even your own small boat of gravy - my own particular weakness. Nice puds, try the chocolate brownie with hot choc sauce and very nice ice cream. For myself, I then order a pot of tea for my husband, pay the bill and leave him there happy with his paper while I have an hour round the shops. Just perfect!

A group of 10 of us, as part of our U3A Villages group, had a fascinating morning visiting chepstow. We started with coffee at the Woodford Arms, then tried to visit the museum but it closed that day, then walk round the beside the river by the A48 bridge noting the old pictures including one of the old dry dock before making our way to the Parish Church of St Mary. Here we saw the tomb of Mary Clapton, her 2 husbands and12 children. It was a much larger church than I thought it would be. We then wandered up the High Street noting all the interesting accounts of who used to live there. We crossed over the road by the old arch and looked at the city walls, the new stone records of foods, wines, and other goods. Finally we adjourned for an excellent lunch at the Beaufort.

My partner and I were staying at the NADC just across the bridge in Chepstow and dropped in here on Monday 13th February for a drink. We saw the Valentines day offer of 2 X Fillet steaks and a bottle of Prosecco for £29.95 on Valentines Day for an evening meal and decided to book it. We were a little apprehensive as we didn't know the area and didn't know what to expect. We had nothing to worry about. The service we received from all staff on the evening was exemplary and we were made to feel welcome and like nothing was too much trouble. Craig, who was the waiter in the restaurant during our meal, was friendly and went out of his way to cater to our needs. He was excellent and we can't thank him enough. The fillet steaks were juicy, cooked to perfection and the offer of extra chips, should we want any extra, was a real treat. My partner enjoyed the Prosecco too! We were tempted by Craig to have a look at the 'add on' starter / dessert menu and decided to go for the chicken liver and brandy pate and the smoked salmon salad. Both starters were great value for money (£5.95) and the portion sizes were more than enough. All food was served hot and very well presented. All in all, we had a lovely evening and would definitely return again as the ordinary menu looked very tempting. Thank you to all of the team at The Beaufort and thank you to Craig for a fantastic evening. It's certainly worth a visit. Do not be put off by the occasional bad review.

Booked for Christmas meal with the extended family and what should have been a lovely occasion turned out to be a very poor and disappointing day. They say you can tell good management when things go wrong and how they react to put it right. In addition to waiting over an hour to be reseated after the table laid for us wasn't set for enough people (despite pre-booking months ahead), the food was then of a very poor standard for the price paid. These guys did very little to rectify the situation and when asking for feedback at the end of the meal, we were dismissed with 'all the other guest feedback had been excellent' - something we know not to be true having spoken to some of them. In short, don't waste your money at this place, there is a lot better locally.. lesson learned!!

We booked the above-mentioned hotel at short notice last Thursday morning via Booking.com in order to attend a concert in the castle on Friday evening.Having read some of the reviews beforehand, we were a little apprehensive as to what to expect but generally we found the hotel to be ok, clean and adequate for our requirements. In fact, we found some reviews a bit unfair, but everyone is entitled to their opinion.Ok, with all due respect to the owner, it is not the Beverly Hills Hilton, nevertheless having paid for a double room (without breakfast) at a reduced rate in what is a traditional old coaching inn, we did not expect gold taps and mahogany fixtures and fittings. It was spotlessly clean and cosy so what more do you want for one night? However, things didn't go 100% to plan......Firstly, having booked a double room on the Thursday afternoon, we received a telephone call from the hotel manager later that evening to explain there had been an 'error by Booking.com' and that there were no double rooms left and we could only have a twin room. As this was for the same price we agreed to accept - no big deal.Secondly, upon arriving at 2.50 pm and handed our keys, upon entering our room we found it was the double we had actually requested when booking??? Thirdly, the room still wasn't ready which was slightly frustrating as booking in was at 2.00 pm so the fact we had arrived some 50 minutes later should have resulted in our room being accessible. The cleaner apologised and seemed to be rushed off her feet. As we didn't really have a major issue over this, we just returned to the bar area until returning at 3.50 pm to find our room was ready. We enjoyed the concert and our stay in a nice hotel and town, even the weather improved and the sun shone!! Would probably stay again if a similar deal with Booking.com.

One of the things I learned as a busy working Mum was that you could make a pigs ear out of trying to defrost bread in the microwave when you realised you hadn't made enough sandwiches for packed lunches and had run out of fresh bread. There is a point to this, bear with me....My friend and I ordered cheese and tomato sandwiches for a quick snack in the Beaufort. We probably imagined a tasty piece of cheddar with some juicy well seasoned tomatoes. When the sandwiches arrived mine was dry, curling and slightly warm. I asked my friend if I could prod hers and it wasn't warm and dry. Inside were pieces of white soft cheese and a smear of tomato chutney. I sent mine back. It was replaced with the comment that the chef had lightly toasted it! Why one was 'lightly toasted' and not the other God only knows. My replacement was warm but not dry, so I suspect from a little further down the loaf! For over £5 a portion this was not the way to make a good impression! Cheese sandwiches are pretty basic but this took basic to new depths of basicness.

One of the girls in our party only wanted poached eggs on toast and still got charged £7.50, it was advertised on a board outside at a cheaper rate, when we questioned this we were told it was because we were residents and the £7.50 was residents rates!!! My meal was lamb shank, which surprisingly was a little over cooked and leaning towards dry.The restaurant is nicely decorated with some lovely touches but also the place is a little pretentious when there is no need,Overall it was certainly ok and would happily go back again, but nothing to rave about either, As for dining on a budget, depends on the size of your budget, with wind averaged at about £26 per head.

The beaufort hotel in centrally situated in chepstow. Its an old building with a lot of character. There are a few parking spaces at the back of the hotel. I was part of a party of girls going to the races. 4 of us stayed in room 9 which is a family room, 2 singles and a double. All beds were very comfy and very clean. Good tea and coffee facilities. The breakfast was nice but the staff were so disorganized. When we came down form our room We wasnt shown to a table and nothing was explained. We were left waiting for ages before we went on the hunt and found the table containing the cereal. The fruit juice and milk jugs were empty so we had to ask for them to be filled. All the tables that had been used previously had not been cleared away. No order optiobs were given to us. The coffee machine had broken and the flask they had put out was empty so no coffee was available. A couple next to us had finished their breakfast before their coffee arrived after having to ask for a second time. Our breakfast was nice but the toast didnt arrive until we had finished and we had had to ask for as it wasnt offered on ording the breakfast. The tables were sticky!

Decided to go out for Xmas lunch this year, called the Beaufort to see if they had space so decided to pop in for Sunday lunch to check it out. The place has been recently refurbed and today's Sunday roast was well presented, hot and tasty. A nice pint of Guinness and a pleasant glass of Pinot Grigio was also enjoyed. Staff were efficient, helpful & friendly, Natalie in particular made us feel very welcome and we had no hesitation in booking lunch for Christmas Day.

Stayed here over the bank holiday weekend as a base to explore chepstow and the 'castell roc' festival. The hotel was easy to find and was a short walk from the train station, we arrived before check in opened but found an array of pubs to hole up in before checking in.We booked a triple room and were given three single beds in a pretty spacious loft bedroom, the beds were comfortable, the room was clean and it contained everything we needed except a hair dryer. Beware of the ceilings and doors if you're taller than average... It's a fairly old building with particularly low door frames !All in all we enjoyed our stay at this hotel and In chepstow in general.

I visited this establishment for a bite to eat with two others. When arriving at the restaurant we were greeted by a waiter who told us to sit wherever we liked and brought us menus. When we tried to order food we were told that we couldn't order for a while because the kitchen was busy. Due to this we ordered drinks that were served to us with dirty glasses. When we finally ordered and food was brought to 2 of us the presentation of the food was poor! A long while after the third starter arrived again poorly presented. The standard of our main meals was poor enough for us to make the decision not to eat more that a few bites. (Battered cod and chips, steak pie and linguine) After deciding to give some constructive criticism if we were asked why we hadn't eaten much we were surprised to discover the waiter came and removed the food from the table and didn't even ask how our meal was but just presented us with the bill. we quickly paid and left. Would most certainly not return.

We live in Chepstow & have never visited the Beaufort hotel for food so we thought it would be nice to try. I'm glad that we did. Greeted by friendly staff, shown to the dining area & given menus. A lot of choice on the menu & some lovely options (I'm sure I seen somewhere a sign saying using locally sourced produce). I went for a toasted goats cheese & sunblushed tomato toasted sandwich & side of coleslaw, it was delicious. My other half had the lasagne which he also enjoyed. They had a lovely looking desert menu too but we decided against desert. The place is old worldy & very charming. Would recommend popping in for food if you are near, I don't think you'll be disappointed with the choice, service or the food.

Me and my nan went to here for lunch, we were welcomed by a very friendly man at the hotel desk. We sat in the restaurant and decided what to eat, I then went to the bar where there were lots of local people who were known by the staff and they seemed to be very regular customers. Itt took a while for me to be served at the bar as the locals were all served first, when I was finally served we ordered the roast (lamb). When our food arrived it wasn't a very good standard, meat was over cooked, roast potatoes were actually deep fried potatoes, veg was raw and came separate on a tiny dish which had to be shared between 2 of us. For 1 drink (soft) each and the roast dinners I paid £22 and to be honest I was very unsatisfied. We wont be going there again.

Stayed here for one night with a bunch of mates on the way to John O'Groats arriving after 100 mile leg from Devon. First impressions were a bit iffy as it does look a bit dated but the reception and service from the staff could not have been better. My twin room was clean and tidy with loads of hot water - all you want really. We decided to eat in the hotel and it was delicious. On top of that, we had to leave quite early the following morning and the staff came in ahead of time to sort out breakfast without any complaint.Well worth a visit if you're looking for great value and service. The only downside was noise from the local revellers which went on into the early hours but that's not the hotels fault!

It was a late booking for 14 and the Restaurant was able to accommodate us all with a great family table by the window. The staff were very helpful and friendly and there was no pressure to start our meal or order which was great as the extended family met up. The food was traditional of good quality and plenty some. Everyone enjoyed the food and the children were well catered for. The service was good and timing about right as it gave us time to talk between courses! If you want simple traditional food, and plenty of it, served with a smile and accompanied with a good wine or beer, then The Beaufort is a good place to start in Chepstow.

We had a fantastic weekend break in Chepstow. We decided to find a nice restaurant to have few beers, a nice meal and watch the FA Cup Final. The Beaufort ticked all of the boxes. The food was very good and the staff excellent. The whole experience was however spoilt by a dog on the loose throughout the eating area. It was on it's hind legs looking at my rib-eye and jumped on the chairs to get a better look. It appeared to be attached to the Beaufort. We chastised it but it wouldn't go away.

Lunch break while on a tour, and stopped at Beaufort Hotel for a quick bite to eat. Prices were reasonable, and food was decent. Nothing extraordinary, but certainly respectable. Fish and chips was fine, though the batter on the fish was perhaps fried a bit too much. Caesar Salad was kind of funny, in that it was a regular salad with caesar dressing. This is a decent place for a quick bite if you are traveling through the area.

We visit Chepstow every year usually because it has easy access to Cardiff for the six nations. The Beaufort is a small hotel with a 'pub' bar which seems to attract the racing crowd, ideal place to watch Cheltenham in comfort. The food is a cut above other places in the town, hence we don't go anywhere else.

This restaurant is listed as accepting 'tastecards'. We rang and booked. On the phone the manager (owner) said that he would honour the tastecard even though the a la carte menu had finished. (That was strange because the tastecard info does not mention that the tastecard can only be used with the a la carte menu). When we arrived the receptionist told us that the taste card would NOT be honoured. We mentioned that we were told, when we booked that it would be accepted. She said that she knew that we had been told that but now she was told that she couldn't accept it. We said that this would not make a good review, accepted when we booked and then refused when we arrived. I asked for the owner to be contacted to explain that I wasn't happy with what had happen and to give him an opportunity to put it right. The staff checked with the owner who refused, point blank, to accept us using the tastecard. We could however still eat there without using the card. The tastecard write up say that we will have a memorable experience. We certainly did for all the wrong reasons!

I have to admit that, although a local, I have not eaten at The Beaufort for many years but because of the good reviews I decided to book a table for ten of us for Christmas Day lunch and a buffet for a 50th Birthday celebration a few days later. All I can say is, I am really glad we chose The Beaufort. On Christmas Day the staff were all very friendly and welcoming, service was excellent, the food was delicious with plenty of it and the atmosphere was great. As there were only 20 of us for the 50th celebration a few days later, we used the steak bar which is a lovely room. The buffet was lovely, excellent value and nothing was too much trouble for the young man, Ricky, who was working that night. We will definitely be back.
