The Lamb & Flag in Monmouthshire

Visited on Sunday 21st april.Nice easy access and well lit for my mother who has sight and mobility issues ... excellent disabled parking with a ramp up to the pub. Food was presented well with ample portions and plates were nice and hot staff were very friendly and helpful to my mum and myself. Table was nice and clean and comfortable seating. Prompt service. Toilet area was very clean and checked thoroughly.Overall an excellent dining experience

Stopped here on our walk back down from Sugarloaf, friendly staff, lovely food and good beer. Reasonable priced, would go back if in area.

Good selection of food, great views from dining area and the staff were so friendly and helpful. Had a lovely evening and a good discount for NHS staff too. Will definitely come here again..

Sadly might be the worst roast dinner I have ever had. The beef was cooked within an inch of it's life and tasteless, the roast potatoes were bereft of flavour, the gravy was lumpy, the mash appeared to be smash, the veg was from frozen, and the cauliflower cheese was seemingly absent of cheese. For £20-30 per head, from a lovely Brains pub, set in the heart of the Welsh countryside, I would have expected more.

Kat fantastic member of staff very welcoming, pub is very nice and relaxing food could be a little less overcooked but understandable still enjoyed our meal.

Stayed the one night for a family event. The staff are very welcoming and cannot fault them, they go above and beyond. Big shout out to Vicky that went and got her own iron from home so my partner could iron his shirt and she couldnt find any that were at the hotel.

Very long wait for food. No staff about. When food came it had obviously been kept warm as salad was very limp and had to be replaced

Arrived here, sat outside, and chose to order food via their app, thinking it would be less hassle. 45 minutes after placing the order, 2 out of the 5 people at our table received the first part of their order with no indication from the waitress how busy they are and without apology. Another 30 minutes passed, and still no sign of the rest of everyone's order Enough was enough, asked for a refund and left nearly an hour and half later without food. Absolutely shocking service, won't be returning in future for any reason.

Yet to have food due to the funny smell in the car park. However always visit if I've been to the hospital & staff never disappoint to help cheer me up!! Great atmosphere 😁 Fantastic location 😍

Table booked for 3pm for 8 persons. When we arrived at 3pm there was some discussion about the booking!! It took 15mins to arrange tables. There were no children's menus available anywhere and despite asking twice we eventually got some at 3.30. One of the children is autistic which means any delays cause him to get anxious. We ordered and eventually after asking,yet again,we were informed that the food was being plated. Time 4.15. ??? During the waiting time there were several other customers who arrived after us who hadn't booked but had their food delivered before ours !! The food on offer in this pub is just grilled food not speciality requiring lengthy cooking times. The whole day was marred by the events in this pub as our daughter had travelled over 100mls as a surprise for her mother's day. The staff were disinterested in providing good service and with, a probably expected, extra visitors were not prepared in advance. As a result of the delay we declined dessert as our daughter had to go and we weren't prepared to have another wait. This in its turn was upsetting to the children who were looking forward to dessert especially the autistic lad.No children's menus was a prime example. No table reserved. This was not a night before booking but taken by one of the staff on the 29th February. The staff member that took the booking was extremely helpful but was not on shift at the time of our booking. If the remainder of the staff had her attitude I would not be writing this now. Praise goes to Alison the only one with any customer service. Disgusting state of service.

First stay here at the lamb & Flag however we are regular visitors to Wales (Cwmbran) and it won’t be our last - a lovely place, rooms were very clean and comfortable, restaurant meal was very good value for money but the staff were another level, the new land lady was very friendly and welcoming as was the two young ladies working the bar / restaurant area. We will defiantly be back next time we are in town! Thank you all for making our stay so special - see you again in the summer. Craig & Sara

Called in for lunch but so disappointed that the room on the right with the fireplace has been turned into a Dog kennel where you can only sit if you have a dog 🐕 so sent out to the Conservatory which is cold and not comfortable So wouldn’t be visiting again

We have wanted to try this establishment for some time and finally did this evening.Friendly staff,quick service but the meal was just a plate of grease even my serviette couldn't accommodate it.Fish & Chips utter grease and the Cowboy burger a mass of processed meat..A large glass of wine £9,but in fairness that was the best part of the meal at least it was a quality New Zealand wine.Shall not be returning or recommending.Had booked for Mother's Day but would have been mortified to take my Mother to be served such poor food.

Called in for a small midday snack, service was excellent and quickly served meal. A lady named Allison served us she was pleasing and helped with our requirements as we only wanted a small snack she pointed out the availability of a smaller quantity meal that was available.

We were so looking forward to this experience a treat for my family from me. Was so disappointing from beginning to end.It took far to long to get to the reserved seating. The ap on the phone would not work to order so then had to queue up at the bar. Over 35 minutes to get this far then told 30-40 minutes for food. Took ages for the food to arrive and we were all disappointed by presentaion, portion size and items missing which we had to request. The veg was cold. One redeeming factor was waitress brought extra veg. No staff member on seeing and hearing our discontent offered any help. We were not asked if we had enjoyed the meal and seemed as if staff were avoiding trouble makers. We asked for crayoning stuff for child. Waitress brought tub of broken crayons and no paper. Why!!! We work hard for our money many in public sector jobs. I as the bill payer feel totally ripped off....The response from manager generic and disappointing.

Excellent place with wonderful staff It the cowboy burgers came with a little side salad and /or onion rings it would be 5 star fot the food aswell All In all definitely be back.

We were a table of 6 and had 5 Sunday lunches and a child's meal. The dinners were served with such small portions I think I counted 7 tiny pieces of carrots and very little of peas and mash it was shocking like they stretched what should have been 3 dinners into 5 I wish I took a photo now. For dessert we ordered apple crumble which was again a tiny portion and the amount of custard served was shocking a little bigger than a standard egg cup . We regularly dine out at a number of different restaurants I understand your not a restaurant but your food portions need to be addressed I used to work in schools and the dinner you served would be served to a child in primary school.

Our experience was excellent. At a time of sadness and grief at the loss of my mother. Lisa and her staff were kind, understanding and supportive to us and in arranging the refreshments there after the funeral. It was the perfect day. Many thanks to them all.

We stayed at the lamb and flag accommodation as a stopover on our route through Wales. A great simple room and good food ( dinner and breakfast) with friendly staff made this a very comfortable place to stay.

I had an outstanding Sunday dinner and the staff member lisa was absolutely lovely. Would definitely recommend!

No trouble parking my electric annd and getting it charged! Sunday lunch was to die for and Lisa… a pleasure to meet and a face we hope to see again.

Had a lovely meal here and thoroughly enjoyed it. Price was fair and quality was amazing. The staff were very friendly especially Lisa. She was absolutely lovely and accommodating. Lots of ample parking with disabled spaces and electric chargers. Venue and toilets were clean. Background music was a nice touch when relaxing. Definitely will come back.

Great food and value for money but very slow service.

Not as good as my previous visit service was very slow, understaffed lots of shouting in kitchen.

Your bar staff are extremely rude. I have just visited your premises after a four hour walk around the Brecon Beacons for some food with my daughter and her friend. When I went to the bar and asked for 3 pepsis with a little bit of ice and lemon. Instead I was served a glass of predominantly ice with lime, which I didn’t ask for. When I asked her to remover the ice as there was more ice that Pepsi I was huffed at by a member of staff called Lisa. She then removed the ice and refused to top the glass up to full stating an imaginary line she pointed to on the glass. All three glasses were filled to different levels. When I order a glass of drink I expect glass not half a glass. Very very rude. After I could hear the other member off staff who actually said sorry and filled my glass joking about it. A very unpleasant experience

As a family we have not managed to get together that often. So we decided to go to the lamb and flag, and to be honest, what an amazing establishment. We had a fair few children and it was so friendly. Drinks were fantastic and atmosphere was lovely. Staff are lovely and I spoke with the land lady, Lisa, very welcoming. Will definitely return. A bonus was the scenery too. 10 out of ten for us.

Nice place, easy to find, large car park, good food and excellent service, well worth a visit.

Special mention of Aaron this afternoon while at a funeral reception. This young man made a special effort to make 4 cups of tea for us today.

Amazing staff! Friendly atmosphere, stunning food and reasonable prices. Steak pie was piping hot and presentation was excellent. Plenty of free parking available for those in the hotel or restaurant.

Popped in for food and a social visit with a friend as it is halfway between where we live. Friendly welcoming staff and dog friendly pub. We had Steak & ale pie and a rocky road sundae each. It was busy when we walked in with Elaine running around keeping the pub in good order. We ordered online using the QR code on the menu. Steak pie was piping hot, presentation was amazing and tasted fantastic! While there was a wait for our food, we didn’t mind as we could see the pub was busy and staff were doing well to keep up. Upon ordering our dessert and another drink through the QR code, our drink ticket vanished off the bar, I had to ask the staff for my drink but they were very apologetic and dispensed immediately. Elaine was very pleasant, incredibly chatty and is very good at her job. Well done to the kitchen staff on shift that evening for ensuring customers weren’t waiting too long for their food. While the pub could do with renovations, it doesn’t detract from the fact that this pub is a gem on the Brecon Rd. We will be returning again soon, hopefully to partake in the quiz.

First time visiting here fabulous night, meal for 9 plenty of room food was delicious served with in 25 minutes of placing our order. Would definitely recommend and will be going again.

We have been visiting the Lamb and Flag on a weekly basis to take part in the Thursday night quiz. Staff always very friendly and welcoming. Several of us have taken the opportunity to have food which is always very nice and well presented.

Our go to for good food, a good atmosphere and a fun quiz night on Thursdays 👌🏻

Called in for a quiet drink with my wife only to be spoilt by three staff members loudly complaining about their shift rotas in the middle of the pub. Won’t be coming back…..

Cute pub, surrounded by beautiful mountains. Stopped here for some food and it didn’t disappoint. The cod was beautiful. Husband had steak and said it was cooked well. Will definitely be back to try a roast dinner next.

Very disappoint. Me and my partner travelled 25 minutes out of our way. Got to the restaurant. And we couldn't order want we wanted off the menu. Even though it was all advertised online. They was running a very limited menu in the restaurant it's self. I would say over half that was on there website was unavailable. Was told they have a new menu at the end of the month. Witch is totally fine. But We should have been told this at the time of booking. Can't fault the staff..I think this is a management problem.

The steak was delicious and the young man who served us couldn't have been more helpful.... but, he seemed to be the only person taking orders and serving. Consequently the food was a long time in getting to us and we were never asked whether we wanted anything else. More staff were needed but otherwise very good.

Paige & Lisa was so friendly, very attentive and always willing to help! Food was lovely, and the choice of drinks was nice too. You couldn’t beat the atmosphere. So clean and the newly decorated areas brings a sense of fresh and a homely feeling. My dog loved the little stand of treats and water, made the experience a lot more better!! So welcoming and calm! Will be back very soon
