The Lamb & Flag in Monmouthshire

I had planned a 2 nite stay due to builders at home i arrived at approx 615 and was booked with ease and patience I have parkinsons disease and quite slow the staff assisted me to the room and ensured I was settled in I was extremely happy with the room and the shower was accessible the only suggestion I would have wall bar as parkinsons affects balance this would assist safety I later had a fantastic bar meal but on finishing felt my mobility become difficult a member of staff could see.i was.in difficulty and politely asked could she help and I was helped upstairs to my room the staff were all polite and professional I settled down for the night only to be awoken in early hrs by fire alarm The staff took professional control and staff were outside my room to assist if needed I have daily challenges while in the community with my parkinson but felt the lamb and flag performed 100% i felt safe warm and protected. Had great 2days good food good beer professional friendly staff i highly reccomend the lamb and flag Dave Smith

We stayed at the lamb and flag in a room that stank of glue it turns out. We were moved to another room that smelt less but still woke up feeling ill. Is it actually legal to be open when dangerous chemicals are being used openly on the premises?

Staff are so welcoming and friendly ,always so helpful, everytime we come to abergavenny we visit the lamb and flag, and the food is always excellent, we went on Sunday for dinner and it was amazing, my husband had a large turkey and it was large,with 2 massive Yorkshires, and a severing of cauliflower cheese, we love going here to eat, it just makes are time in abergavenny more special

Stopped at the Lamb and Flag on way home from visitng Tretower Court. Was perfect place for a lovely dinner. Really enjoyed the burgers we had and the chicken wing starter. Would return if we are ever up this way again.

We really enjoyed the experience! The pub was clean, tidy and a welcoming place to be and this was also reflected in the room. The facilities were great and we had no issues. The staff at the hotel were really polite and welcoming! The food was also really nice with a great selection on draught at the bar!

Friendly staff. Slow service. One person taking food/drinks orders and also making drinks (including hot drinks) when we were there. Don't order a coffee of any kind, it's just not worth it - stick to tea or a cold drink. Food was nice. Pudding arrived quickly.

What a lovely pub. Elaine couldn’t have been any more welcoming, and hosted an excellent pub quiz. Perfect venue to explore the Brecon Beacons. Great atmosphere, good food, very friendly staff. Room was good with fantastic views.

Delicious breakfast and really fun Halloween activities for the kids, Kat is a firm favourite. Highly recommend visiting

5 stars for one reason and one reason only. Probably the best pint of Guinness I've had outside St James's Gate, Dublin!

We've had some lovely meals at the Lamb and Flag but today wasn't to the normal standard. If we had more time, I would have sent my meal back. Hopefully it was just a one off?

Amazing yet again. Twice this last week.. Quiz night and host is a great laugh. Will definitely be joing it again 👍👏 Also, came back saturday and the new girl was very helpful considering it was her 1st day! Happy and smiley chelsea. Great team you have there! 👏👏 Again an amazing food date with my children and dog. Superb food, lively atmosphere and friendly staff. Elaine and sianade were very helpful. Best food in the area, by far! Came in today as a table of 3 with our young daughter. Staff were very busy but we're still very friendly and helpful. Food was hot and tasty. The lady who served us was running around constantly but still made us feel very welcome and even learned our daughters name. I think her name was either Elaine or Lorraine. All in all a fab visit. Came in again Friday and again served by Elaine. Amazing food yet again and fabulous service with a smile. Also had a young girl (called Lucy I think) who was also very professional and happy. Both made us very welcome again. Definitely our new favourite place to eat. 5*

We had an amazing shirt stay at the lamb & flag. The staff were so friendly and helpful, the food was amazing and generally just a lovely atmosphere. We will definitely iteky return.

36 of us ate at the Lamb and Flag on Saturday evening, sitting at 3 tables of 12. The meals consisted of some people having starters, some not, a wide range of mains, and a selection of desserts for those who had decided to have them, all of which had been ordered in advance. The staff were so courteous and obliging, the serving of the food was very well organised and all the meals were hot and enjoyable. Many thanks to all the staff for helping to make it a really enjoyable evening .

Great breakfast served till 11:30, whilst car charged at really good speeds.

Excellent service and the staff were really friendly. The room was really comfortable and exactly what I would expect. The food was great and value for money and the beer was lovely too.

We stopped her for a spot of lunch with friends. The prices were very reasonable and the portion sizes were huge! In fact my friend struggled to finish his meal! The food was tasty and cooked very nicely. Over all we really enjoyed our meals and they had some nice choices of beers and ipa’s on tap too.

Great location for walks in the Brecon Beacons National Park. Welcoming staff went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable - accommodating our vegan diets and allowing us to eat weekday menu items at the weekend (if chef was able to). Breakfast could be taken at any time from 8am onwards

To be honest we had stopped going as the food had become poor in quality and value for money. We decided to try it again as it has changed hands. We were pleasantly surprised at the meals we had. They were definitely better prepared and presented. We will be coming back.

When we arrived with a booking we weren’t acknowledged for a long time and had to ask one of the 3 people behind the bar to look up. Otherwise the food was nice and the waitresses very pleasant. However, slimline tonic was unavailable and there were no other caffeine free diet drinks so I had to have water which was a shame.

Lovely lunch meeting family. Food was great all had different meals, the mixed grill was the favourite, mac cheese was lovely. The place was very quiet so no atmosphere but was mid week.

Brilliant location and excellent location for Abergavenny. Welcoming staff , excellent food and beers. Breakfast the following morning spot on. Recommended. Evening menu was extensive and what ww ate was fresh and hot. Highly recommend this on your visit to the area. Staff very knowledgeable and professional. Thank you.

Friendly welcoming staff with excellent customer service. The quiz was great fun and dinner was excellent excellent.

On arrival we were by very friendly staff who took the time to go through everything we needed to know. The room was clean and warm. The TV was a good size, usually they are small. My only small criticism is about refreshments; there was plenty of milk and sugar but I would have appreciated a couple more tea bags (although I was told that if I needed more just ask a member of staff, this is not something I would do). Breakfast was freshly cooked and delicious. Overall we had a great stay and are looking forward to returning.

Really friendly restaurant/ public house on the A40 between Abergavenny and Crickhowell. Plenty of parking including charging bays. What a lovely welcome from the staff, all friendly and helpful. Good stable reasonably priced pub menu with plenty of choice and meals available to cater for those of us with special dietary requirements. All our meals were hot and tasty 😋. Great sweet/pudding selection too! Added advantage you can use a taste card to get £25% off your total bill. An around great value restaurant. Will be visiting again!

Went out for a drive Saturday 14th with my husband we stopped off to have dinner absolutely a beautiful setting the views were breathtaking the food was absolutely delicious the pub was amazing lots of space nice place to eat would definitely stop again 10/10 food was fresh hot and tasted amazing 😻

Very friendly and nice flavours but the pie crust was so hard I couldn't cut it! I had leak and potato's pie. My husband had the cowboy burger. The burger was lovely but the chips not so much.

Popped in there by the off chance for a pub classic meal. Was disappointed with the food portion especially for the cost. Frozen fries were left under the heat lamp too long and Burger was okayish but it was an overpriced Happymeal. Mens toilet floor had puddles of fluid but not sure what it was.

Fantastic pub! Stopped over in our motorhome last night and had a fantastic meal along with a lovely bottle of wine! Dog friendly too which is always a bonus. After a very peaceful sleep we woke up starving and asked if they did breakfast! Of course they did. Filling and very tasty! All this was made even better by Vicky who could not have been any nicer or more helpful. Thank you for a great experience Just read a previous review about how quiet it was on a Friday evening. We stopped on a Wednesday evening and it was really busy. I even commented on how busy it was for a “school night” 😂

Lovely vegan and veggie food, the dog menu was a lovely addition as well, definitely coming back.

Toilets were really clean but floor was a bit sticky , set out of pub was really nice. Lovely sitting area outside , dog friendly which is great , food was really good waitresss very nice. Atmosphere was lacking. The radio could have done with being put up a bit . The pub was really empty for a Friday which was ashame as its a lovely pub.

Stopping for a quick dinner en route home we felt so welcomed by an enormously friendly, helpful and cheerful woman - I don't think I have ever met someone so well suited to their trade! The food was tasty, well-presented, arrived quickly, and was very reasonably priced. Thank you for making what had been a pretty stressful day feel a bit better.

The bar staff were absolutely lovely, as were the servers who brought us our food (I didn’t catch anyone’s name unfortunately, but the whole team on that day were amazing). The food was incredibly tasty and enjoyed by all! Will definitely be back!

Myself and a friend attended this pub for dinner after a long drive. The beers took a good 15 minutes to arrive to the table post ordering. The wings were of a good quality, well cooked, very tasty. The Mac and Cheese was quite a small portion for a main and wasn't the most flavoursome. Plus points for friendly serving staff and being dog friendly. Very accommodating in that regard. Overall a 3 star review, average, but not anything more.

First visit to this pub. Beer was perfect and staff very friendly. Lovely garden and childrens play area. Definitely worth a visit.

Excellent service of a hot and tasty meal at the Lamb and Flag, Abergavenny. It was served by very friendly and helpful staff who checked to confirm any food allergies when taking the order. (Part of a very large party) No complaints at all!

The best vegan Sunday pub dinner I can ever remember having. The pint of Brain's was also absolutely lovely. Everything hit the spot, and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. What better way to spend 40 minutes while the car is charging?

As a family we booked lunch for 20 family members we were greeted and had drinks in a room at the back then went on to have lunch on a long table in the large Room staff were attentive and we all really enjoyed the various meals we ordered the place was decorated beautifully for Christmas which added to the Christmas gathering, everone said we must make this our regular family pre Christmas get together

Great pub with even better food! This is our fourth year visiting wales and each year we continue to return to The Lamb & Flag. This time in particular, Elaine made both us and our little four-legged friend feel extremely welcome! We’ll be back in Abergavenny again next year and will most certainly be booking another table. Staff were super friendly, lovely lady bought a bowl of water out for our dog, food was easy to order with a QR code on the table, plenty of seating - good was really lovely and plenty of it! Would definitely come back - thank you!

Please be careful when you visit this establishment. The prices that they charge at the till is more than they display on the menu. Then when the meals are brought to the table items advertised on the menu are missing from the plates with no apologies.

All standard fare, pretty soulless with loud back ground music. Just feels like a generic chain pub. . It's a huge place and the fact that a number of items on the menu weren't available. Very dog friendly inside , which isn't a good thing to me.

WOW WOW WOW! Guys don’t walk, run to the lamb and flag! This place is a must go if your in the area, or even if your not! Ever since the new owners came in this place has been on fire, you can tell by how busy it is! I called to book for Sunday Roast, and you can tell by the quality, this isn’t their First rodeo. Lisa Greeted me at the door and was so helpful from the get go, showed me to the table and all I needed to know for my visit! Lewis who then served me was amazing! An amazing asset to the team! No job was to big or small! Food was amazing and hot too! Also added a dart board and a pool table! In the words of Arnold, I’ll be back! No complaints here at all

2 night stay, lovely pub. All the staff we encountered were friendly and doing a good job. Food is usual pub grub. Breakfast is pretty good, nice bacon and sausages

Lovely pub, tasty food but portions are lacking. Couple of chips chucked on a plate underneath the fish and a tiny amount of cold rock hard peas. If you order beans instead or have tartare sauce they come in a tiny espresso sized cup same as the peppercorn sauce, and for £2 its not enough to even cover the steak. Clean and lovely atmosphere and the staff are lovely, just think you need to work out better portions for the price we pay.

The Lamb and Flag is a lovely well appointed pub with nice rooms and a great breakfast. Lisa, the manager and here team are fabulous and so welcoming. These fabulous staff make this venue a place to come back to. Thank you Andrew

What a lovely quiet little pub, just out of town so it’s peaceful. All the staff were friendly and welcoming. Our server called jaz I think, couldn’t be anymore helpful if she tried. My starter was the best part off my evening very enjoyable.

I was very happy with my food from the kitchen, I don’t know the chefs name. Waitress was called Jasmine and she was very polite and well mannered.

Went to the Lamb and Flag on Sunday as part of a large family gathering…12 people + dog. We were served by Elaine. A really excellent meal. There was a good choice on the menu and the food was served really very quickly considering the restaurant was very busy. Every one really enjoyed their food which was well cooked and was very tasty. The staff were very good and while the service was quick and the restaurant was busy our meal was not hurried in anyway. A very pleasant meal!

Never stayed here before but we knew on the first day the weekend was going to be enjoyable. Great location out of town but ideal for site seeing in the area. Good selection of Ciders and Beers at reasonable prices. Food was available up until 21:00hrs which means you don’t have to leave after a drink to go look for food. Varied menu but something for everyone with starters,mains,deserts and snacks. Plenty of staff on hand to serve and assist you but two people who stood out for us were Sinead and Lewis who went out of their way to help during our two day stay. Long day for the staff but there was always a smile and banter if like me you like to interact with the staff. Thank you both and the rest of the staff for a great welcome.

I stumbled across this place quite by accident - what a find. Firstly is had electric car fast chargers, secondly the staff not only welcomed my four legged friend but made an immense fuss of him- even looking after him when I went to the loo; the staff are so friendly to us humans too and last and by no means least- my Sunday roast was generously sized and delicious. Just wish I was local so I could go back but sadly off home to Hertfordshire tomorrow- where by the way we don’t get deliciously buttery mash with our roast but I wish we did

Looking for regular night stop between South and North Wales. Staff very good, accommodation adequate if a little expensive, food very slow (50 minutes on a quiet night) and not exceptional. Unlikely to stay again.

Stayed here for 2 nights lovely pub had a pool table so had a few games on there. The staff are really lovely and friendly and nice to have a chat and a laugh with and always happy to help with a smile The food I give it 10 out of 10 for breakfast and for dinner Will definitely be coming back for a roast and to play pool again

Food is some of the best and very well priced , staff are so warm and welcoming . The rooms we had were clean and had everything we need for our 2 night stay we joined in the quiz night and felt part of the community

Really friendly accommodating staff from reception to the bar! Clean and tidy room albeit showing signs of being well used in places. Bed was comfy and extra pillows etc available if needed. Normal basic complimentary tea and coffee and toiletries from dispensers. Shower over bath had good pressure and temperature which was much needed after a day riding the hills. Plenty of 240v plug sockets but no USB so bring ya chargers. Didn't see or ask for an iron , did see a hairdryer. No aicon in the room but rhere was a free standing fan but it was still hot. Pub and restaurant were very sociable with good decking etc. Food was standard pub grub but was fine including the breakfast which started at 0800. Is a dog friendly hotel so might hear the odd bark and wimper from the adjoining rooms. For me it was a good solid place to base myself for couple of days of my motorcycle trip
