We have just been to this little place and it fitted us perfectly. Firstly, lovely people there. Got us a high chair sorted for little man the We had dinner there and it was great. It’s proper pub food. Scampi and chips, chicken curry (homemade) etc… There is a pool table and darts about if you like that sort of thing. We were visiting the village at near by Airbnb so didn’t stay so can’t comment on that but as a little pub, I’d be happy if it was in my village. I would go back for sure but to set expectations, it’s a village pub so if you expect Michelin stars it won’t be the place for you.

We visited the village last weekend and the staff were so helpful and polite to me, my daughter and wife. The chips were also absolutely fantastic and tasted sort of Belgian, they were so crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Service was amazing and the advice around the local area was brilliant too. Seemed like genuinely nice people and it's a beautiful place to visit. Wonderful.

Dined and stayed one night. Small room with rather uncomfortable bed and view of roofs. Breakfast was freshly cooked and tasty. Supper was ok- rather basic and simple. Pool, darts and garden. Good location in village and probably only place serving food.

Has a homely feel to the place. The owners have put a lot of care into making their own sloop and sailboat theme; many types of boat actually because there is a connection with service in the Royal Navy. Lovely lamb shank I had too, my mate enjoyed his pie and Guinness. The room was clean and comfortable.

Well a surprising drop in as wasn't planning this pub. But pleasantly surprised. Very down to earth and honest place with hard working staff and a good local feel. The food was just fine, not gourmet, but honest and hearty. definitely well cooked with care as service was fantastic ! Good location and ample parking, fair beer selection, but was driving so didn't get a beer. Many thanks, I'd stop again if passing.

Great village pub with good food. It has the usual darts and pool table. Live music sometimes and rooms for the night if not booked up which can certainly be the case during salmon fishing season. Beer garden with breath taking views and good clean toilets. If you wanna spend the day/week in one of the most beautiful places in the country I highly recommend the sloop and surrounding area.

Very disappointed. Received a £100 parking fine for stopping in this pub’s car park to check whether the restaurant was open. Will definitely not be going anywhere near this pub in future… Shamefully opportunistic way of making money.

Nice friendly pub with large car park. Called in here for lunch as driving past. Friendly staff who told us to register the car number at the bar as not to get a fine in the car park. Ordered lunch a vegan curry and the trio of sausages which were both very nice. Quite a lot of choice on the menu and specials including a rabbit option. Staff and customers all very nice Would most certainly return.

Very friendly welcome. Traditional village pub with pool table slightly apart from plenty of comfortable seating in bar area. All spotlessly clean. We wanted a quick light lunch so opted for large and tasty sandwiches on lovely fresh bread, could have had more substantial meals including rabbit- nice to see traditional country food on a menu. Will use again.

New born baby and 6 year old in tow we decided to give it ago. I ordered the roast beef and was not disappointed. Hot.. with Loads of choice in veg and fresh lovely cooked beef.

The menu had all the pub classics including five vegetarian options. (I'm not a vegetarian - I choose freely from the whole menu, but so often this is dull category on the menu). We came here for a couple of nights while walking the hills and valleys nearby so clearly we were happy with the food and environment to return the second evening. We ate in the dinning room both times so I can't speak much about the main bar (or the accommodation available above either). We worked our way through a steak and fish, curry, vegetarian lasagne, ribs and chicken and we were very happy with everything! Wouldn't hesitate to return here next time we're in the valley and I'd recommend it to all travellers. The locals probably already know!Enjoyed talking to the bar staff who were all friendly and helpful. Really nice atmosphere for a relaxing meal. The bus stop (number 69) is right outside if you want a walk and bus back etc. Quick note that the car-park is on the opposite side of the road, so don't miss it!

I reviewed this pub back in 2012 and declared that I was local and eat here on a regular basis (about once a week). The same is still true today. Never had a dodgy meal in all that time. OK, some weeks are better than others admittedly,(is anywhere perfect?) but overall, it is still a cut above the rest in the area as this offers real pub grub and is completely unpretentious. The owner has just taken on a new chef and he is proving to be a real force in the kitchen. I often have his Dragon pie. A take on steak and ale pie but with extra, extra whoooomph. This chef has improved it. No fat or nasty chewy hard bits (always was like that anyway) and loads of lovely rich gravy enhanced by chillies? I don't know how he has done it, but if you try it, take some tissues ;-}. Our friends had a chicken dish and declared it to be the best one in the area (and that takes some doing)Unfortunately, I am soon to move to another area a long way away. I hope I can find a pub that does just as well. The search will continue. This pub by the way, has rooms as well. Obviously I haven't stayed there myself, but friends have and I have only heard good comments about the bedrooms. Welcome to the Wye Vally AONB.

On the recommendation of a local resident, we had dinner at The Sloop Inn, and it was both reasonably priced and tasty. The waitress seated us promptly and was very courteous, answering our questions about menu items and making recommendations from the wine list. Dinner was great! We were not hurried, and the food was delicious. We arrived before sunset, and with the mist rising from the river behind the Inn, the ambiance was great. On a mini-road trip in Wales we stopped here for lunch after visiting Tintern Abbey. There is a large carpark across the street, and very little else on the main street through the village so we were soon wandering into the Sloop Inn in search of Sunday lunch. We got a warm welcome from staff and customers alike, including one very friendly canine companion who I would happily have taken home with me. They had a menu with 1,2 or 3 course Sunday lunch options, however a few dishes had already sold out so I didn’t opt for that. I’m sure prices were £8.25 for one course and in the region of £10 for 2. I had a lovely chicken, bacon and sweetcorn pie from their specials board (most meals around £9-10) which hit the spot! Thanks to some late summer sun we were able to enjoy our meal in their beer garden which was very pleasant. All in all we were happy with our discovery, enjoyed the food and liked the service. Good place to stop off to re-fuel!

Whilst taking a short break in the Wye Vally area, traveling down the A466 to Tintern Abbey on a sunny September day, my husband and I both had an urge for a Ploughman's Lunch. As luck would have it, we stopped at the first pub we saw, The Sloop Inn, in Llandogo and they did indeed have a choice of Ploughman's on the menu.My first thought was, that at nearly £9 each, they were very pricy but I have to say they were worth it. As well as a generous helping of salad with full-flavoured cherry tomatoes, there was delicious fresh beetroot, slices of apple, more fresh rolls than we could eat, more cheese than I could eat (I had the mixed cheese, which was stilton, cheddar and brie), a little dish of chutney and my husband's ham was proper home-cooked ham, not that rubbish out of a packet. And not a crisp in sight. All washed down with a bottle of Orchards Wye Valley Cider. It was a proper, traditional Ploughman's, full of flavour and goodness, and I could eat another one right now! (Can't really comment on atmosphere etc - it was a quiet mid-week day and we were the only people sat in the beer garden).

The Sloop suffers in comparison with other pubs in the Wye Valley. It's decorated fairly basically with little of the individuality that makes one remember pub and want to go back. That said, Sunday lunch was decent enough, I couldn't find fault with the beer and the service was sharp.

The Sloop is perfectly placed for the first day lunch on the Wye Valley Walk (from Chepstow). What it lacks in ambience is more than matched by the very good pub grub with high marks for the chips, value, staff and real ales which include Kingstone beers brewed in Tintern. The owners son in law is an artist and some of his watercolours may be on show.

This is the only Inn and restaurant in the picturesque village of Llandogo but it's a good place to stop for some honest pub fare. The service is very friendly and welcoming and our waitress went out of her way to make us feel at home and valued. There are nice views from the restaurant area though the decor would probably benefit from a little lifting up as it's somewhat dark and the heavy leather chair, comfortable as they are, add to the somewhat gloomy atmosphere. There is a specials menu in the bar area and a normal a la carte one too. The choice varies from pies, fish and chip, steaks etc. It's all well cooked and tasty, it won't win Michelin stars, but it doesn't pretend to, it fills you up and make you feel warm inside, especially if you accompany it with some good wine! So a good place to stop (there is ample parking if you are driving) and you can even take yourself for a stroll after your meal as the river's footpath runs just behind the Inn.

Many pubs try to be something that they are not. This one does what it says on the tin, so to speak. Situated in the village of Llandogo, halfway between Chepstow and Monmouth, the pub is by the side of the A466. The welcome is reserved but the beer is as it should be. The menu is not extensive, but there is a daily specials board, all of which seems reasonably priced. The volumes are generous, many with fresh vegetables and the plates are hot. The general quality of the food is very good. One can either eat in the bar or the 'restaurant' at the back of the pub. One thing that stands out, is the cleanliness. How many places can you go to where you find the sauce bottles, salt and pepper pots completely free of any grease or previous users prints! Likewise the tables and furnishings I put the word restaurant in commas, as the food is the same as in the bar. This room is tastefully decorated and lit and quite relaxing to eat in, even when busy, with pleasant views down the Wye Valley. I live locally and use the pub for eating on a regular basis. I am surprised that noone has yet written a review, to date. I have eaten my way through the menu and can honestly give it the thumbs up. many of the B & B's in the village send their customers there for lunch or evening meals and from what I can gather, the pub is well received.

Had Sunday lunch here, very tough, fatty beef, and the side order of cauliflower cheese was ridiculously hard. Then for dessert I ordered a fruit crumble, and to my disappointment the topping was just a crushed biscuit which was hard , and in no way resembled a traditional crumble. When I complained to the manager, he insisted that it ‘was a crumble’. I think he should revise what a crumble consists of before adding it to the menu.
