Great place. Good pint of Guinness. Atmosphere is top notch.

Did not partake in the food but looked delicious. The atmosphere is great and Butty Bach on draught, my idea of heaven. Good beers, lovely beer garden and great staff. What more do you want in a boozer.

A proper pub. No gastro food, no reserved tables. Great customers. Always good for a friendly chat.

What a lovely little pub. So much character, as you'd expect to have for a 17th/18th Century building. We were warmly welcomed by the Manager and we enjoyed a refreshing drink or two in the quaint beer garden. If you're looking for a traditional pub in Monmouth then this is the place to visit.

Thoroughly enjoyed our first quiz night. Very pleasant lady quizzer, ran on time, lots of laughter - a pity there were so few teams, but that not the fault of the lovely, cozy, old hostelry. Service great.

De pub zag er aan de buitenkant al authentiek uit en binnen was dat precies zo. We arriveerden n't na afloop van de rugbywedstrijd Ierland - Engeland en hadden meteen contact met de rugbyminnende locals. Ruime keus uit bitters en ciders en een sfeer zoals die die in een Engelse pub hoopt te verwachten.

Played with the 'Crawfish Pie Band' Fabulous Venue, great atmosphere & staff.

Short stop, but felt like a proper pub. A couple of ales available and the one I had was cracking. Would revisit without hesitation.

Great welcome, immediately made to feel at home already feels like my local after a couple of visits. Friendly locals, great live music on a Friday, and best of all proper real ale. Landlady is so friendly and nothing too much trouble

An excellent 'Old School pub' a great laid back landlord, the pub seems to cater for all age groups, excellent Doom Bar, very nice.

I work all over the country and if I'm within distance of this pub I will stay overnight in Monmouth. "Found" the Old Nags 5 years ago and been in several times with my mate. Always made to feel welcome and some locals even ask where we have been if its a while since I visited. Its a great, good old fashioned pub. Unfortunately I hear its been "bought out" by Marstons!! What a waste. Brains bitter is one of the best. MARSTONS. Please dont ruin this pub by stripping it out and "tarting" it up to look like trendy place. It doesn't need it. This is a proper pub where you meet folk, drink proper beer and have a laugh and a joke. If I could buy the place, I would. See you all soon. Wayne (Nottingham)

Just popped up to Monmouthshire for the weekend, good old-fashioned public house friendly barman good beer missed out on a pint of Wainwright hope it will be on tap next.

Just had the most unwelcoming experience. Asked for a pint of shipyard and she said no & looked at me as if I was speaking double dutch. Pointed out the tap and she said they didn't have any. Then proceeded to say I was 'a bit weird' because I didn't want to 'try anything else'. Felt so unwelcome there. I appreciate something being out out stock, but there's a way to speak to people. So rude!

What a great find. Made our two Vizslas and ourselves very welcome. Delightful courtyard garden and lovely pint of Pedigree (well, two!) and big thanks to one of the locals, Nick, for helping sort a taxi back to our campsite! Look forward to calling in again!

Visited this pub with a group of friends whilst staying in Monmouth for the night. Staff were very friendly and reasonable prices for the drinks on offer. As we were a large group we tried to keep ourselves to one section rather than encroaching on the regular punters. Staff were very happy to have us which was nice compared to other areas. Would recommend this venue if you are in the area and want a nice place to relax and have a drink

A very homely pub located in a lovely town. The staff were polite and the locals friendly. There was a good selection of drinks, a pool table, a Juke box and plenty of seating. Luckily we got the comfy sofas!

Traditional old pub with a small selection of good real ale. Friendly welcoming staff. It has a beer garden and a games room with darts and pool. Regular live music. Lacks anywhere to park cycles, but otherwise recommended.
