Our visit was when Covid restrictions were being lifted and need to be viewed in that context. We stayed in the Lodge and wandered down for dinner. The wait for a pre-dinner drink was somewhat longer than we would have hoped and that reflected the service level throughout the meal - somewhat slow. The food itself was of a high standard but not truly memorable. We will return, I hope!
Came here for a quick bite after doing some of the Burns Trail in Mauchline. With the social distancing in place, there's no sit in and the cafe only serve food from the front door. The menu is very much traditional British foods, so you'll not go wrong if that's what you're after. Even though the staff were only serving through the front door, they're still friendly and welcoming.I got myself a Jaffa Cake and a Latte. The former did indeed taste like a Jaffa Cake (biscuit), although it was a bit too sweet. The latte was decent. Not sure about all the 5 star ratings, but it was decent food and I give it an extra star because the prices here are very keen.
We called in for soup and coffee at lunchtime staff made us feel so welcome with our dog too.It was so good we booked for dinner and were not disappointed. My husband had duck pate to start and haggis needs and tatties I had haggis pakoras to start and steak pie we were full but were piggies and had sticky toffee pudding between us bliss. Our dog enjoyed the log fire and a chewy stick so lovely we are going back tomorrow evening

We thought we would give the westerly a try and see how it was. Both decided to dress up and make a date out of it, and I'm glad we did! The restaurant itself is attractive and has a good atmosphere. Staff (students) were brill and absolutely did their best. Our waiter was Adam and it was his first day, he was so sweet! The food was incredible. Far better than we expected, and if in any non training restaurant, could easily have been triple the price. Will definitely be back
Surprisingly, I've already given Niche a glowing five-star review in the past (because let's face it, they're just that good)... but apparently, that wasn't enough to satisfy the masses? So here I am, back at it again with another review. Let's talk stars - they're well-deserved, considering the line of people they have to turn away !! 🤭😲
Yes, it's always bustling, and yes, you'd be wise to make a reservation (if you can manage it). I mean, even weans have smartphones these days, so there's really no excuse not to call ahead and secure a table. It's just a quick phone call, people.
Now, onto the food... honestly, I haven't found a single thing to gripe about yet. OK, there might be a bit of a wait, but that's because everything is made fresh (and you can even peek into the kitchen to watch the culinary magic happen). Despite its cozy size, Niche exudes an intimate vibe, even when it's packed to the brim. The staff? Top-notch - friendly, helpful, and just an all-around delight.
So, what more can I say? The food is scrumptious, the venue is top-notch, and the staff are absolute gems.
I dropped past for breakfast ( had the Mighty Niche ) ... delish' as always.
Catch you there, then? 😉

About the pictures .... I'm always too busy eating, but I've got a couple of snaps I took while waiting for my coffee.
We have visited the new Trocaderos quite a few times now and it has been absolutely amazing each time.
The concept is so new and different from anywhere else and it is definitely something to experience. They have different performers and singers every evening and on a Saturday they also have amazing dancers.
You are sat at the bar area whilst waiting for your table and are greeted with friendly staff and some lovely nibbles of olives and crackers. The whole place exudes opulence. From the decor, to the furniture, to the restrooms. Everything is beautiful.
The food is really fresh and tasty and they have an extensive wine and champagne list as well as spirits and cocktails.
It is on the pricier side but worth every penny. You are not only paying for drinks and food but the wonderful entertainment, beautiful surroundings and amazing experience.
We are so lucky to have this venue in Blantyre!
The restaurant is located in Biggar High Street, where there is parking on-street in the locality for those driving, however we’re fortunate enough to live within reasonable walking distance.
It’s closed on Monday & Tuesdays but otherwise open for lunch and dinner.
The menu usually has half a dozen starters and desserts with around eight mains courses to choose from and these all feature fairly frequent changes. Currently the cost of a three course meal is £31.95 per head which represents a modest saving on the individual course prices. Supplements apply to some dishes which can increase the cost marginally but on the upside there are also discounted deals, such as “Steak Night” on a Thursday where you can get a starter and a steak for £25.
To give some idea of what food is offered, on our last couple of visits we had Thai Fish Cakes with lemon mayo, Warm Bacon, Black Pudding & Potato Salad, Chicken Liver Pate with oatcakes and a Mushroom, Brie & Thyme Tart as starters. For mains we’ve had Haddock wrapped in Parma Ham, Breast of Chicken in Drambuie Sauce, Parsley & Hazelnut Crusted Cod, and Ballotine of Chicken & Haggis with a whisky sauce (as an alternative to peppercorn) all served with a selection of potatoes and vegetables. For desserts we both had the Cherry Bakewell Tart with Amaretto Custard on one occasion, an Apple & Blueberry Crumble Tart with custard and a Baileys & Strawberry Cheesecake with Chantilly Cream and fresh berries on another visit.
Generally speaking the food is very good with only an occasional slight disappointment when for example a flavour mentioned on the menu isn‘t particularly noticeable in the dish itself - the Amaretto was subtle to the extent we couldn’t taste it in the custard for instance. Drinks are typically priced for a restaurant - e.g. we had a bottle of wine at £32 on one of the visits, a glass of Sauvignon is £5.25, and a G&T £4.75.
Service is friendly, mannerly and efficient in our experience.
On the past couple of visits it was busy and there was a good ambiance in the main restaurant with some guests being directed to the upstairs section on one occasion.
Our only gripe is that the seats are not all re-upholstered and if you get one which hasn’t been "padded-out" in recent times it can get quite uncomfortable sitting for too long which is not ideal.
Toilets are well maintained.
