Treated to afternoon tea by my daughter. First visit and was suitably impressed. The gardens and public rooms have a lovely grandeur. Food was delightful. Would love to repeat the experience.

I wish I had read reviews before going . Lunch was overpriced , portions small , starter of Duck was tough and cold and sent back but no acknowledgment from manager …whilst the wine was warm and had to ask for ice. Although staff were pleasant they were never around and did not have the standard of service I would have expected with drinks spilled and no initiative when concerns raised . Left to have coffee in empty sitting room with ‘lift music’ playing on speaker under the chair. Overall disappointing and would not recommend . I had been before and suggested to friends but not the experience we hoped for.

Beautiful and idealic scenery. Staff is completely amazing. We had several forgetful moments, and the staff was right there for us. The room/suite was very well matched to a castle and very comfortable. The bed was so comfortable, and the bedding was so warm and cozy. The food, both dinner/dissert and breakfast was delicious and beautifully placed. There is a well-kept walkway that meanders through a garden and along a small river that runs over walks.

When lunch is £400 for 4, expectations are high. Was shocked to find paper napkins on the table, other guests at 13.00 on a cheap sandwich and tea offer, hit and miss service. Is this really anything to do with Michael Roux? His father would be rolling is his grave with the association. The food was ok, but small, overpriced portions. Cheap crockery , glasses and cutlery. The wine lust, especially for Scotland, is astronomical, with a mark up of over 6 or 8 times.

Beautiful location and restaurant. Staff efficient but could have been more attentive. Food quality was first class and luckily our guests chose the beef which was well proportioned, well presented and perfectly cooked. I chose the Halibut at £40 and for that got no more than 80g of fish plus a single scallop and minimum garnish, with no vegetables or salad. Embarrassing really and of course very disappointing. Fine dining is no excuse for poor value. You can buy a 200g top quality Scottish Halibut fillets for about £8 from a fishmonger.

Feeling like royalty at Crossbasket Castle! Forget stuffy museums, this is history you can sleep in! Crossbasket Castle is a real-life castle turned swanky hotel, and let me tell you, it's got major cool factor. Imagine chilling in the same spot where dukes and inventors once hung out. But it's not all about the past. The food here is incredible. We're talking melt-in-your-mouth deliciousness. Seriously, our taste buds were doing the royal jig! So, if you're looking for a place to stay that's equal parts historic adventure and fancy feast, then Crossbasket Castle is your kingdom!

Once again we had a lovely afternoon tea at Crossbasket Hotel. There was 10 of us and we were seated in the Stewart Room which has just the right ambiance for afternoon tea. The friendly and very helpful staff had arranged the furniture so that we all could sit together which was very much appreciated. We were having a small celebration for my son’s RETIRAL and as we had two friends over from Italy Crossbasket was our first choice of venue and they were not disappointed with its splendour. Also our cakestands were full of delicious goodies, sandwiches, scones and a lovely selection of pattiseries so compliments to the Chef for those.. A very pleasant afternoon was had by us all in beautiful surroundings. Thank you.

Greated at reception by lovely staff member (apologies her name escapes me). A gorgeous day outside where we had champagne before lunch. Champagne was served by Reagan who was very knowledgeable re champagne/wines but also enthusiastic in regard to all the additional works going on within the grounds, exciting! All members of staff encountered were friendly, including Tony the new Executive chef who was interested in how we enjoyed everything. We had hoped to finish our champagne outside where we started but unfortunately rain prevailed, so Lauren from the bar, escorted us to a nice area inside to do so. A first class experience and a reasonably priced lunch, would highly recommend.

First experience at a Scottish castle. The history was fantastic and it is so surreal to stay where your ancestors once roamed. We upgraded to the Lindsay suite and what an experience! It was a fantastic way to kick off our stay in Scotland to celebrate our 10 year anniversary! We had dinner at the restaurant in the castle one night and it was just lovely. The staff are very friendly and accommodating, we look forward to returning again one day. Thank you for such a lovely time.

Four of us had afternoon tea at Crossbasket Castle recently to celebrate a special birthday and it was a bit disappointing. I requested a gluten free meal and while the sandwiches were OK, the only other savoury item was a tiny bit of fish pate on a cracker. The other 3 non GF afternoon teas had sausage rolls and a mini quiche. The GF cakes were OK, but a bit uninspiring and there was a frankly boring fruit salad that wasn't sweet enough. The worst bit though were the scones which were tiny, rock solid and bordering on inedible. I did not complain at the time because I didn't want to embarrass the birthday girl and ruin the afternoon. The staff were nice, the setting was lovely and 3 out of 4 of us were happy with their food. If you have to eat GF though, I'd avoid Crossbasket Castle. Shame.

We stayed here for two nights on a recent tour of Scotland. It is a castle built in the 1600's and kept in superb shape ever since. The grounds are beautiful, the rooms were beautiful, (and there are only 9) and the dining room and lounge are amazing. The food was probably some of the best I have ever had on a trip anywhere. The Manager traveled among 6 hotels in the chain (I believe the name was Supja (sp) ) and he went out of his way over and over to make sure our stay was wonderful and that we felt like it was our home to use.

Our group of 4 had a most enjoyable dinner on a Friday evening. We had the 8 course menu and the food quality and presentation were excellent. We had drinks in the drawing room beforehand and found the atmosphere very relaxing. Pricing was fair for drinks and food. The only reason for rating a 4 as opposed to a 5 is the service is well off the mark that you would expect for a 3 rosette restaurant. Everyone is very pleasant and friendly but various aspects display a lack of training and polish. The owners must be aware of this shortcoming and hopefully are able to invest in some staff training, which is needed at all levels in the restaurant.

Afternoon tea for a 70th birthday - significantly substandard - Served in a freezing banqueting hall for 150 people with no one else in it, lots of cake but hardly any savoury and charged an extra £16 for two sandwiches after paying more than £30pp. Rip off and using the Michael Roux name to add an inappropriate premium. Cakes were served straight from the fridge, hard and no clotted cream with the scones. Definitely not a 5* Afternoon Tea in my experience. Despite prior communication with the hotel stating that this was a special occasion, no effort made by the hotel to mark this for us, with our special guest. Offered a partial refund but not enough to compensate me for the embarrassment, unfortunately.

This was our first time visiting SmithS, we went for some lunch, a two minute walk from the train station, overall a lovely restaurant and the staff were so friendly. we had a well priced bottle of red along with our food, My wife opted for the smoked duck as a starter, I had the scallops, both dishes were delicious. For our mains we both opted for the feather blade of beef after reading some positive reviews, the beef simply melted in the mouth, the silky smooth mash was a great accompaniment along with seasonal veg and jus, I'd highly recommend SmithS, an absolute gem of a restraunt, it was so chilled and it had a lovely relaxing atmosphere. We will certainly visit again.

Went for lunchtime meal deal. Staff assumed I wanted full portions of chicken goujon. With burger and fries. Asked if we were in for meal deal then told me she had already put on full portions. Nothing was cooked right. Chips were soggy and inedible. The burger was completely different from previous visit. And my lunchtime cost was £11 dearer than previous week. I never mentioned it as I knew it would be taken personally. Last week's visit was fantastic. This visit has left a foul taste in my mouth. Won't be back. Fart
