The best restaurants in Belfast

I was able to enjoy breakfast here twice. Totally recommended and very tasty. Staff is very attentive and friendly.

I decided to take my husband here (in early March) to celebrate his 70th birthday. Twas a day out for us and we took the Enterprise train (first class) from Dublin to Belfast and it was fab. The less said about the first class Irish Rail return journey the better! This restaurant is a pleasant 20-minute walk from the train station. From the moment we entered the restaurant to the moment we left, we felt most welcome. We had a lovely table in the window. We were offered the usual waters at the outset. We were given the menus and had a choice between the set menu and the tasting menu. My husband is not mad keen on tasting menus but I wanted him to have a choice for this birthday. He chose the set menu and so did I. We thought the 55 pound three-course menu represented very good value for money. Canapes followed by bread and butter and then a choice of two starters, two main courses and two desserts followed by petit fours. Coffee/tea is not included in the 55. The cheeses were an optional extra at 12 pound and we had one portion between two. We did not choose the matching wines - opting instead for a bottle of red after having been treated to a bottle of champagne by friends. Between us we had the entire menu. The stand out for us was the flavour of the food. Other reviewers have commented on the portion size but by the time we had worked our way through the full menu we were full to the brim. The presentation of the food was perfect and the service throughout was impeccable. I am a great believer in leaving a room to improve comment and I honestly cannot think of anything. I am so grateful to the entire team at OX. My husband has an amazing day. Thank you.

Small fish and the chips were blanched yellow tinged tripe , sorry guys there are far better chips shops around in Belfast.

This restaurant was recommended by a local we happened to befriend and glad we followed his advice. The food and service were excellent! We happened to eat there on a Sunday and was able to use their "special" Sunday menu. Nice atmosphere and delicious meal. Recommended big time!

This restaurant is great the staff are really friendly and it’s really interactive you can put in song requests the food is also brilliant the bread is one of the best bread I’ve ever had and for a Michelin restaurant the prices are great.

We went to the Merchant Hotel for a pre dinner birthday drink as a treat around 4.30pm our dinner was booked for 5.15pm. Our table had the reminants of the previous party, empty glasses and half eaten nibbles. A waiter came and took our order but didn't bother to clear or clean the table. He then took an order for a couple beside us. The couple beside us were swiftly served a pot of tea with nibbles and glasses of water. At 5.05pm I went to the bar area and advised we haven't received our order and we were ready to leave. The drinks arrived at 5.10pm delivered to the drink stained table which we literally had to drink in one go as we were going to be late for our meal and over £30 worse off! Lots of suited staff walking back and forwards looking important but not really doing very much. Maybe when you see customers looking around for assistance you might want to try and help. Service appalling for a Saturday afternoon, dread to think what the evening service is like! Disappointing start to a birthday celebration.

We had our wedding reception at Shu on 17 April 2025 and it was the best experience we could have ever imagined. The drinks reception and canapés (in Jul's), the wedding meal (in main restaurant), the service, the bar staff were all outstanding. We partied on afterwards in Jul's with both a live musician and a DJ and had the time of our lives. The food was above and beyond anything that would be expected at weddings and we were treated like VIPs the whole day and night. The staff couldn't do enough for us, special mention to Adam, Johnny and Cara. Lots of our guests described it as the best wedding they had ever been to. All of this and unbelievable value for money. Thanks Shu for making our big day so perfect.

Nuestro lugar favorito en Belfast y agin no decepcionó! Tuvimos amigos que nunca han estado antes y tuvimos una noche fabulosa! La comida estaba recién cocinada, caliente y deliciosa. Pero tengo que decir que lo que lo hace el mejor es el personal! Son acogedores, amables y dispuestos a atender las solicitudes. Como siempre volveremos, pronto!

Great place for a quick pint in Belfast. Never noticed it before after living here for a long time but I’ll be back for sure.
