What a lovely welcome! Greeted by Steve and the locals after a long drive, into the valley where Sandford Orcas and The Mitre quite literally nestle. Such a friendly team at The Mitre. The room was spacious, comfortable with a lovely ensuite. The garden is being landscaped and the first phase is already well on the way to being complete - looking lovely. The clever planting means it will look great all year. The menu is small but mighty - in that there is a good degree of choice for all tastes. The food itself (I had Wagu Burger but sea bass was recommended by a regular) is also really good quality. Steve did a fab' omelet for breakfast - one of the best I've had. Why not a 5? The spring nights are cooler and the room was a little cold. It was too late to raise it and the glorious sunshine the next morning made it irrelevant. I will definitely be back!

Having been Vicar of Sherborne from 1993 to 2020, I have seen the R&C go up, and down, and up and down again - but now it is very seriously on the up! Although about 15 miles from where we now live, we have begun to take old friends who live closer to lunch or supper there. They have been amazed. Now it’s their turn to take us! We will be back! Walked (on a walking holiday) in with 2 dogs and my daughter to a warm welcome. Pub was quite busy but we were served promptly with a quenching beer & cider. The menu specials all sounded delicious. The food appeared quickly and was excellent. I had liver and my daughter the faggots. Pudding was also lovely. Great value, I hope I walk past again soon!
