We visited last week Tuesday. We had trouble finding it, but when we did, we were greeted by the Landlady and made very welcome. I don’t eat a lot, I ordered the Cheese starter, it was amazing with small triangular pieces of toast. It looked like flat bread and it was toasted. Very nice. I really enjoyed it. It was my wife’s birthday on Monday 15th. So we are going out with some family members. So we booked here, has we had enjoyed it before. What a shame. I ordered the cheese starter as I had enjoyed it so much before. It came with big chunks of Brown Bread. It spoiled the meal for me.

As a large party of 11 who ordered pretty much all of the things on the menu on a busy Saturday night, we were hugely impressed at the friendly and efficient service and high quality of the food. All absolutely delicious and not a scrap left on our plates. We were very well fed and watered indeed! We’ve also been for Sunday lunch here a few times. Wow! Plentiful portions of the best roast (beef, chicken, pork or nut roast), stuffing, roasties, multiple veg, gravy and a HUGE. Yorkshire pud that you could wish for … seriously good value for money. You couldn’t wish for a better experience at this historic landmark pub.

The food here is as outstanding as ever but what really impressed me was the service - particularly from Amelia. To say she made us feel welcome would be an understatement. She treated us like long lost friends, making us feel so special and ensuring we had everything we needed. All this on a very busy Sunday for the pub. She did this for every group too and the rest of the staff seemed to follow her lead and were equally friendly and efficient. I can’t recommend The Rose and Crown highly enough.

The place is beautiful. I know that are new managers, so maybe that is the reason that the service was very slow. The hamburger was quite dry and the soup portion was quite small. I know that many pubs are going into more restaurant than a traditional pub. Maybe it was just no a good day for me.

Very friendly and obliging owner who helpfully accommodated our group despite our arriving a bit late as we got lost trying to find the place! Unfortunately, they were very, very busy and food service was extremely slow (we thought our late arrival was probably to blame, but the owner said that they had taken too many bookings and, to be fair, apologised profusely). Our meal took about 70 minutes to arrive. The menu was limited but the food itself was actually very good - my burger was excellent - (though one of our party thought her fish portion was rather small, and there were a couple of small mistakes in what was served). Free petit fours were offered. Overall a "curate's egg" experience - on a quieter evening it might have been perfect but I can't help feeling just a little bit disappointed.

Just been here for Sunday dinner. I am local to the area and this pub has a long standing reputation for its food, especially the sunday lunch. Unfortuntely I have to say it has gone downhill and my comment is based on my last 3 experiences of eating here. At 1PM on a Sunday, there were only a few covers in the pub which is a signal something isnt right. We were greeted nicely and the service was good. However, when the food came out, Yorkshire puddings were burnt and inedible on 2 of 3 meals, the offering of roast beef was 1 slice; not even enough on my plate to satisfy a childs portion and the root vegetables were under cooked. What meat was served was very nice and the gravy, roasties and side of broccoli cheese tased good but for £24.50 a head its not acceptable to only have 50% quality. Some discount was offered as a gesture but unfortuntely I dont think I will return again when other venues are offering considerably better food for £10 less per head. Its a real shame, and I think the management need to seriously consider such comments for the longevity of what once was a lovely place to eat.

A really lovely pub and restaurant, it had local beers friendly staff and a very nice atmosphere. A very attractive place with outdoor seating at the front and rear which both had plenty of warm sunshine at 6.30 pm when we were there. We aren't from this area but the village appears very pretty with the pretty church sitting just across from the spacious pub car park. I believe there are nice walks on local footpaths but also the lanes approaching the pub would be lovely for a cycling arrival here too. Ps we loved the beer barrel stave bar stools! See photo.

The food was good but not great imho; my peppercorn sauce was too oily/buttery and not creamy enough for instance. The ambience could have done with some background music to cover the noisy fridge in a mostly empty room, which was let down further by a swarm of flies circling. The nice view of the fields outside was spoiled by the tatty gaffered up window.

I’ve been here many times before but this is the first time in recent years. On the bright side, because l didn't want to ruin my husband's dining experience, the wait staff were lovely and starters were amazing. But the main was very disappointing. Completely found this pub by accident having taken longer on a shopping trip in Yeovil than had been intended and thoroughly fed up with the supermarket crowds we searched Google map and pointed the sat nav in its direction. We sat inside because it happened to be a little chilly for the kids which was cosy and quiet with good service. Outside we did pop into the garden to enjoy the view which is stunning down into a valley. If we went again or if we took our dog we would take warm coats and brave the cooler air for the view for sure. Food was good quality standard pub fayre. I admit I found the scotch egg a little dry and underseasoned for my liking but the food portions and overall it was good value for money in a great setting.

The location is perfect. The food, regretfully, was appalling and a huge disappointment. When it came out, it was so burnt, we literally pulled out pieces of charcoal. We tried to give it a go but all we could taste was burnt burger and bacon. We finally relented and sent our meals back to be replaced. At the same time, we became aware of another table sending their meals back. When the replacement meals arrived we had lost our appetite completely and only managed to pick at something that was only marginally more appealing. When we got the bill we noticed that they had missed off our pre dinner drinks. We pointed this out to the waitress who came back with a revised bill to include the drinks. You would have thought that they would at least have offered to waive the cost of the drinks, but no. Nothing was taken off the bill at all to compensate for a ruined meal. Sadly, this was not only our first visit to this pub, it will definitely also be our last.

The Rose and Crown is our favourite country pub. Situated in the village of Trent, it combines quality food with friendly service from the staff. There is plenty of options for indoor and outdoor eating in a relaxed, comfortable environment. Nice indoor vibe at the bar, and there’s comfy leather sofas and an open fire in an interesting old side room. Cozy. Perfect for a midwinter visit. There’s a good selection of beers and currently Aspall’s cider on draught too. That’s a personal favourite of mine while out walking. Eating or drinking outside is a good experience with multiple spaced tables. There’s even smaller ‘tables for two’ and all with a decent rural view. There’s a spacious bordered garden with good plantings, including lots of lavender that in the July sunshine was covered with bees. Accommodation is available in the form of several rooms away from the main pub building. You can even catch the last of the day’s sunshine at the bench tables out the front of the pub. Nice. We’ve done that. It’s decent quality all round at this pub, which is what I like. 5 stars.

Had so many lovely meals here previously, the last time was so bad it tarnishes all my good memories of this place. Bland food, too many components without thought for how they go together and unfortunately when it wasn't bland it tasted awful. Went to celebrate my fathers 90th birthday. Atmosphere good, however the food didn't deliver and we felt it was overpriced. My fathers steak was tough, my son ordered a vegan meal however the chefs clearly hadn't made a note as it was delivered as vegetarian not vegan. I understand that most diners don't have allergies or intolerances so the rating I have provided is for our experience only. Other diners seemed to be enjoying their food.

We had an incredible experience at the Cross Keys. Mo and his team hosted my Father's funeral wake yesterday. The whole experience was incredible - made so special by Mo, Lucy, David and the girls. Nothing was too much trouble, and we felt completely wrapped up in their arms from the moment we walked through the door to make the arrangements, right through to the day itself. I cannot thank the team enough for creating such a special celebration, which you planned so incredibly well. The delicious food platters were superb, and all the guests said what a beautiful venue it was. I was personally nurtured throughout the whole day, with Mo and Lucy checking in with me to make sure everything was perfect - and even David coming in on his day off to make sure my Dad's favourite music was being played. I can't thank them all enough from the bottom of my heart for all their kindness. We stayed in their family suite for the night. Our room was superb, with the biggest bed I've ever slept in, and beautiful views out onto the market square and the Conduit. I can thoroughly recommend a stay at the Cross Keys - the service is exceptional, the rooms amazing, and the breakfast was superb. We also had our evening meal in the restaurant, and it was exceptional. THANK YOU TO THE WHOLE TEAM AT THE CROSS KEYS - YOU ARE ALL AMAZING.
