Wow!! What an amazing weekend we had. You really couldn’t have done anymore, every member of your staff was just so lovely. We felt thoroughly spoilt… so, thank you all so very much, it was just magical 🎄🤩🌷

Unfortunately we were really unimpressed by the food here, which was a shame. I went for the fishermans pie which other reviews said had big chunks of fish and even prawns. Mine didn't have prawns but just a few tiny cubes of fish about 5mm square, all cut the same size as if from a bag of frozen. The potato topping was gloopy and watery. Didn't enjoy it at all. It had a bit of salad (mainly iceberg lettuce) with it instead of vegetables. In fact vegetables seemed missing from the entire menu and everything was with chips. Partner had steak pie which he didn't enjoy, it was dry and filled with not chunks of steak but shreds. They had also poured a watery gravy over the top which had made it soggy. Friend had steak but they said it was tough, and overcooked. She said she had had better steaks in Spoons for less than half the price. After spending £80 for the 3 of us we wished we hadn't bothered and sadly felt like we had wasted our money.

This pub is exactly as a proper pub should be. Great welcome, great beer selection, including 4 real ales from the cask, and great pub food done well with good portion size, with a management team who really go out of their way to make you welcome. This is community owned, and they are doing all the basics brilliantly. on top of this, it's a historic building in an amazing location . If you can visit, please do: this is a pub worth going well out of your way for.

Such a shame they’ve closed So glad we had the chance to stay at this magical place run by a lovely couple & a slightly arthritic golden retriever. Best full English I’ve had & magnificent dinner. If you see this by some chance, you may be gone but aren’t forgotten. Simon Rhodes

The Post Inn, a stone's throw from the Whiddon Down Travelodge and seemingly the only viable food option within walking distance. Upon reading the overwhelmingly glowing reviews me and my fair lady excitedly headed for dinner post exploring Dartmoor in much need of freshly made home nourishment. Ambience wise the place is interesting, definitely a local's English Pub. Various old world Bric a brac and guitars adjourned the walls alongside the vibrant plastic plants. For the drinkers, a nice selection of local ale and ciders from the well stocked bar, no complaints here. Now onto the food...mid range priced at Gastropub levels we were both anticipating some well cooked locally sourced produce from a competent chef. What we received was even more soulless than a Wetherspoons microwave meal for double the price and without the free pint! Fish and chips, £16 I thought to myself 'An English Classic, It'd be hard to mess this up' A brief wait and what arrived was an overcooked piece of frozen fish drier than the Sahara desert with the batter rock hard and probably best used as a cricket bat. Frozen peas hopefully steamed but possibly microwaved and unseasoned. The Fries were OK but clearly just frozen and dumped into the frier. The little Lady, she ordered a burger which again really lacked any taste and seemed frozen or boiled to temperature served for her in an inedible GF bun. She fed it to the Pub dog and hoped the poor thing wouldn't choke to death. Food Price and quality seriously letting the place down. Once bitten twice shy.
