This is a great Devon country pub which is a must-see-and-experience for CAMRA members, ancient English inns enthusiasts and general patrons of the good ol' British pub. On arrival, we were greeted by Roger, the landlord, who was most welcoming. There is a good range of real ales and an even more impressive range of real ciders. Try the Wistman's! :-) (Named after Wistman's Wood on Dartmoor. ) The food was great. the four of us had different meals and all weRe greatly appreciatve. Our landlord was a butcher for over 30 years before going into the licensed trade and still sources his own meat. I appreciated his recommendation of the rack of pork ribs - delicious!

Glorious old country pub with its heart and soul still fully intact. Delightful, courteous, friendly and efficient hosts. Great selection of tasty home made food. Plenty of traditional beers and, for me, the biggest selection of local low alcohol beers, ciders and lagers that I have seen. They accommodated 10 of us for lunch with ease. We had booked. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed everything about their visit. We'll be back

Used the cafe while spending the day at the castle, we were there around 1.30 and I think some of the normal (if there is one) menu had sold out. Till point seemed a little slow but not too bad. The way of finding you with your order was good.

Actually came here first in September and was so impressed we made a special journey to come back in October for a birthday celebration. It was a lovely dinner off the specials board of pumpkin, bean and sausage stew in a giant Yorkshire pud. Followed by strawberry cheesecake. Delicious. Service was good and timely even though it was very busy coming up for Halloween. Thank you for making my day.

Such a shame they’ve closed So glad we had the chance to stay at this magical place run by a lovely couple & a slightly arthritic golden retriever. Best full English I’ve had & magnificent dinner. If you see this by some chance, you may be gone but aren’t forgotten. Simon Rhodes

We have called in here quite a few times before for a drink while walking in the Teign Valley. We often combine a walk to here with a visit to Castle Drogo..Our recent visit was at the end of January on a bright but showery winter day. There a real fire burning and a warm welcome on our arrival. We got a table with a river view, and enjoyed an excellent warming soup before continuing our walk. We will be back to walk along the river again.
