We only popped in for a pint and some cheesy chips, as we were eating at the end of our walk. The carvery looked and smelt awesome! Portion size was good, and prices were very reasonably pitched. Great venue, which will obviously be stunning in summer! Still very busy, but lots of staff to serve you, with table service. Service wasn't the quickest, but they were busy, and it was polite when it came. Atmosphere was more towards the 'family' vibe, so if you're not a fan of lots of kids, be mindful to visit in the week! They really could've done with lighting some of their fires to make it feel cosier as the temperature is dropping! It was quite cold inside! We will be back to eat a proper meal here and enjoy a quieter visit.

Beautiful location for a pub, the outside seating area has stunning views but it's all a bit tired and tatty inside. The food and drink is cheap but average, It's always busy so maybe I am being picky. Very dog friendly. Staff are always lovely.

Wonderful location. Plenty of walks in woodland with wandering paths, uphill, flat, by the river. Something to suit all capabilities for enjoying stunning scenery. The pub was relatively quiet, but that is to be expected midweek in November. We were greeted and seated quickly by the friendly staff. The food was really good. The meat in my burger was delicious. My wife had a vegan curry pasty, which was also delicious with first-class pastry. The menu might perhaps benefit from a couple more vegetarian options. The food was a good price for the size of the plate and the quality. The staff were friendly and helpful with questions about the menu. The service was good. Overall, it was a lovely lunch in a great location. It is an ideal location for walkers and is dog friendly.

Great riverside pub, the food on offer is very good indeed, with good portion sizes. The staff are all attentive to your requests and the service is quite fast. The pub has the extra advantage of having several beautiful riverside walks on the doorstep to either have some exercise before your meal or walk off the meal when you have had it. OK the drive down to it is a little difficult with narrow roads, but it is well worth the effort.

Only wanted a quick mid walk drink. Had to wait to be seated at a table and it was table service only - even for drinks only. Waited twenty minutes for our order to be taken and another ten for them to arrive. Charged nearly £2 for a can of coke! Fantastic setting but if you only want a drink it’s better to take your own. Staff were friendly and helpful. Great, amazing location. We sat outside overlooking the river on a beautiful, sunny day in June. The food we ordered arrived luke warm and would best be described as low-end school canteen type food. We did raise this with the young man serving us, and he was great. Biked here from Okehampton which was an adventure along country lanes. Sadly I got here too late for the carvery so opted for the scampi & chips. Was allowed to use a socket to charge up the bike battery to help me on my return trip. The meal arrived fairly quick and was very good. A beautiful pub nestled right on the River Teign. This was a perfect stop for refreshments before starting a long walk on a hot summer afternoon. We sat outside, where there are plenty of umbrellas for shade, and the view of the river (and bridge) is superb. It was incredibly busy, as it was a sunny Sunday afternoon, but the staff dealt with the rush brilliantly. On arrival, we were met with a sign that told us to wait patiently to be seated. While it may feel frustrating if you have to wait for a little while, it is just because they are waiting for tables to free up. Once a server came over, we were seated immediately and our orders taken promptly. Drinks and chips arrived within ten or so minutes, and it was easy to go inside to pay. The staff were superb, very friendly and happy to chat. The toilets are clean, the whole pub appears to be well looked after, and the chips were perfectly cooked. As a bonus, the pub is adjacent to public footpaths, namely the Fisherman's Path, where you can start different walks, such as up towards Hunter's Path and Castle Drogo, with the pub waiting at the finish line.

We had 1 cream tea and 1 tea with plant milk for my vegan wife. I was shocked when I saw I had been charged 40p on top for plant milk. We have never anywhere been charged extra for plant milk . I asked and was told it’s because it expensive. I did not rescue e any discount for the milk we do not have and what we did get was one tiny jug of plant milk , my jug of milk was three times the size! This pub say it’s vegan friendly I’m sorry but you have let yourself down penalising for vegans. I know it’s only 40p but it is the principle especially when the menus clearly dates 40p a glass for oat milk not 40p for a splash with our tea.

A lovely little place with picturesque views over the gorge. We have visited twice in the last month. The Sunday roast was lovely on my first visit, however, I would be prepared for long wait for the carvery as it's very popular. My husband and children were finished their meals by the time I returned to the table with my carvery. We also took my mum along on mothers day and even though we got there 45 minutes before the start of lunchtime, all the indoor seating had already gone and there was a large queue forming. We ended up sitting outside in the rain eating our dinner, which wasn't ideal. Despite this, the staff were warm and welcoming and the food was good (and hot which was good as we were all freezing!) The bar is dog friendly, which is fantastic, and the staff always make a fuss of my big german shepherd when we visit. The location is what really sets this nice wee place apart from the other local pub/restaurants. It's beautiful!

Lovely pub. Great views of Dartmoor. Pub is in the middle of nowhere with nothing within a couple of miles each side. Good selection of drinks and interesting history about the place. Roast dinner was a little disappointing. Very crispy, hard to cut, dry roast potatoes, thin meat. Gravy just tasted like bisto and everything else tasted like it was supermarket frozen food. The fresh boiled veg was nice. Partner had rabbit pie, which was well filled and tasty. Chips weren't very tasty.

Had an amazing Sunday roast here - service was fab and pub was warm and cosy. I've only knocked a star off as I paid £6.40 for a can of 0.0 guinness and half a lime and soda - which seems quite highly priced

No draught lager, so a pint of shandy cost £6 as you had to pay for a bottle of lager and a lemonade Carvery itself was underwhelming. Frozen Yorkshire puddings are always a bit of a let down. £16 for a large roast dinner which wasn't particularly large. It just meant you can have 2 of the 4 meats (1 slice of each) Beef overcooked, pork looked very fatty. Turkey was ok. Cauliflower cheese was raw. Gravy wasn't very good. Roast potatoes looked deep fried and weren't very nice. The leek gratin was very nice though. Wouldn't go again unfortunately.
