It's amazing how different fish and chips can taste, everything here is fresh and tasty - and at a very reasonable price. Absolute recommendation. The food in the restaurant is a little more expensive, but the offering is the same.

What a shame met a lovely lady when parking at the back and told me not 2 park because of camera . Then got in the shop ask for chips and curry on a tray twice 2 bread cakes and a spring roll .Never said they didn't do that. When wrapping them up I said can I have the curry on the chips because we're sitting in the car couldn't believe when she said no anyway i took them back to the car omg smallest chip ever so if that was regular god nos what the children portions was like plus no barm cakes so had to go back which they left on Top of hot fryer plus no butter omg never again £12 that wouldn't feed a child never mind 2 adults angry

Received a slug in my burger which isn't what I ordered nor is it very Vegatarian. I did get a refund for the burger, only the burger, cos obviously that's all there was a problem with regarding the food. Not that I was turned off by eating the food but oh well. Thank you graylings. Edit: I did return for the complimentary meal in the restaurant and I will say that it was absolutely delicious so my opinion has been raised and I really appreciate the owner coming back, shame management didn't have the same service to begin with but thank you. The lady was abit run off her feet who was serving there but she was very lovely and dealt with it in her stride.

Just popped in on my way home and I have to say that this is an exceptional Fish and Chip Shop/Restaurant. The inside was impeccably clean and modern. The decor was very tasteful and stylish. All of the staff were very happy, friendly and helpful. The service was also very professionally efficient. The food was delicious and well priced. I will definitely be back and I will be singing Graylings praises to anyone who will listen.

The fish was great value and enough to share but £4.40 for the large chips was not worth as very small and only just enough for one person

Popped in today as we were visiting Okehampton. Upstairs restaurant is fresh and clean with lovely decor. Had the special meal, fantastic fish and chips all freshly cooked with lovely batter. Latte very nice and excellent customer service from very friendly staff. Will definitely go back and have already recommended to our friends.

We were too late for Kempleys, so we decided to chance here. Mistake. Saturday night. They close at 9, we arrived at 20:45. We only wanted two portions of large chips. We'd agreed that, if it was empty, we'd not go in out of consideration for staff. But there was someone in there, and someone came in after us. There were three staff front of house. Two were 'ok'. What ruined it was the girl with reddish hair. She was so unwelcoming even before we entered the shop. She loudly spoke about everything being done and that they were just 'waiting' (i.e. for it to turn 21:00, so they could close). She looked fed up the entire time and made no effort to be friendly while we were in there. There was also no friendly goodbye/thank you. Honestly, just really rude. I'm sure it had been a busy and stressful day. But we actually ordered less than we wanted out of consideration for staff (we would have ordered chicken burgers) and didn't feel like two portions of chips would put them out too much. Anyone would have thought we'd asked for a well-done steak at 20:58 based on her attitude. The chips weren't particularly tasty (neither of us finished over half of them). Hardly any vinegar. We would have bought the bottle for £1 but, because of this girl's attitude, we didn't feel we could ask for anything else. We recommend Kempley's, instead; the service is always super friendly and polite and the chips are awesome 👍 That girl either needs to leave (she mentioned to her colleague that she has two other jobs + study) or she needs to have some training in customer service and general attitude. We won't be returning.

Travelling back from Launceston to the cotswolds yesterday. Dropped on this place. It was just unbelievable absolutely brilliant fish and chips the best I have had for quite some time. The lady serving at Oakhampton was lovely. Thank you will certainly be calling in again. Mike. Number 35.😆

I like to visit for gluten free Mondays. The service is always friendly, the shop is clean, and the fish and chips are nice (much better than your typical greasy fish and chips). Its handy being able to order on the app and then just go in to pick it up.

Food was double terrible. Soggy greasy chips & probably the soggiest batter I've ever had on a piece of Cod!!! Was a seriously terrible meal. There standard sized peace of Cod is VERY small. But a very small soggy portion of chips and a very small soggy peace of fish still cost a small dam fortune!!!!!! Very, VERY DISAPPOINTED........ How can it possibly be that bad? Shame on u... My son got chips from Kebab shop and were much better. How is that possible when Graylings have Chips on there sign? Cant tell u how disappointing it was this evening after gagging all day for fish & chips!!!!!

Lovely fish and chips but portion sizes on the small side, especially the large chips which were like many places standard size.

Small portions, battered sausage was soggy and mushy, chips looked like they had been stood on, tasted OK.

Tried this place this evening, generally all fine. fish really succulent and nice chips .My only negative comment is regarding the Male server on the counter ,whilst not rude, he just seemed to not understand good customer service .I asked if I could simply have a teaspoon of their curry sauce to check if I would like it with my fish n chips . This got a flat refusal ,first excuse was it was individually heated up in separate pots I saw for myself that there was a separate ladle and urn for the currye sauce , as well as pots so easily sourced ,then he says they cant spare a sample .Jesus wept what a jobs worthy minion who needs urgent retraining on customer service to ensure satisfaction. Just simply petty behaviour letting down his employer ,and damaging the brand. Retrain him .

Expensive, small portions, food is average

Booked online to take away, got my timings wrong and even though they were busy, they did not hesitate to bring my order forward. From the cleanliness of the place, to the friendliness of the staff and the amazing food, we have never been disappointed. Thank you F.M

We are moving to Okehampton and this was our final visit to toe up lose ends to get the move sorted. We were looking for a hearty meal for the evening. We went in about 6pm on a Saturday. The restaurant was open so we opted for a sit down meal. Nice environment, good vibe and a good traditional fish and chip menu to order from. We ordered cod and chips x2, a kids meal, three drinks, 3 cakes, and few sides like onion rings and bread and butter. The waiter was very polite and friendly. The food was with us in 10 minutes and the quality of the fish was excellent. One of the best fish I’ve had in a long time. Nice batter that was light and crispy and not greasy. Will make this my go to when I want a fish and chip meal.

This was my sons birthday and he chose Graylings, the staff were friendly, and helpful. As per usual we were all happy with the quality FIsh & Chips and all 8 meals arrived hot and together. Welldone Graylings

Disappointing for food quality, portion size, service and most of all the fresh orange juice that tasted and smelt off, with a totally inadequate apology which just highlighted very poor customer service!

First time we have tried out the upstairs restaurant, it was really nice. Food as always is top notch, the staff were lovely despite being really really busy with Edwardian Evening. Great job guys, still our favourite chippy👍

Would highly recommend. When we visited, the shop was staffed by a friendly, helpful bunch of young people who all knew what they were doing and interacted well with customers and each other. The quality of the food was good and was freshly made.

I’ve been a couple of times for fish & chips, the first visit I wasn’t overly impressed however I’ve just had fish chips and mushy peas at lunchtime and I thoroughly enjoyed them, I sat outside in red lion on the benches. It was lovely, fresh, hot, delicious, tasting food. Looking forward to another visit.

We have been coming since we moved into the area just as covid lockdown was abating and were overjoyed to get a good quality service. Rising costs have been bad enough and we cant buy as often as the prices have rocketed, but in the.last 6 month the servicr and.quality had been suffering. A fotnight ago I ordered by Click and Collect and having checked in had to wait in shop for nearly 30 mins.after my alloted time, then finding the bag was on top of.the hot cabinet for about 20 mins of that having not been called out! If it had been great when I finally ate, maybe it would have been worth the wait. Today I thought I'd try the homemade fishcakes and chips but recieved big batterd cakes with very uncooked lumps of potato, scant flakes of fish, flecks.of green herb and barely any seasoning - nothing to be proud of sadly; accompanied by old and sad chips. Sorry Greylings, It may be a while before I return. Hoping things will recover from this slump soon.

Best Fish and Chips with the old fashioned meaning for a “big” cod on offer. Largest and best cod I’ve had in a lovely setting too. Easy parking over road in Waitrose which is free after 6pm.

We loved our fish & chop stop over on way back from Cornwall! Much nicer than a service station and very convenient, quick access from motorway plenty of parking only wish we had time.

Visited a few times, nice friendly staff, lovely clean and welcoming cafe/take-away area, but unfortunately every time we order, the chips are served soggy and undercooked which is not enjoyable. Such a shame they can’t get their chips right because everything else is great.

Don't know who writes all the excellent reviews for Grayling's. A first time visit for me and will be my last. The most expensive chip portions I've ever paid for, portion size small, chips soggy & greasy. If in Okehampton go anywhere but here.

Without doubt best fish and chips in Devon, I know people go on about Squires in Braunton but Graylings in Okehampton is absolutely delicious, would recommend to anyone

No cash no customer! I boycott any business stopping me from spending my hard earned money! Before the covxx hoax I used to be their regular customer. Not any more until they accept the cash again.

Pre ordered 8 fish and chips on line - excellent. Collected food - excellent. Ate food - very disappointed. Fish was over cooked and dry, chips were just ok. When you spend £80 on fast food you need it to be good. This was a birthday treat. Never again . I’d rather go distance now and get fish snd chips from Paignton. They Re heat beautifully. If not for too long !!!Good I had delicious puds to compensate. Have tried calling but get no answer….

We like Graylings,we normally get a takeaway from the North Tawton Branch but as we were in Okehampton thought we would try it out.The Restaurant was clean with rather nice decor,it is pretty new.Fish and Chips was great as usual but pretty expensive.Over £40 for large cod and small chips twice and a cup of tea is pushing it a bit.Because of the cost we would not return and will probably stick to takeaways from North Tawton in the future.But for the cost it would have been 5 stars.

Stopped here in the way home to west Cornwall and rated it highly. Fresh fish and nice chips. Would visit again

Wow….popped into Okehampton…randomly…felt peckish…walked passed this fish and chip restaurant twice…thought…can’t go wrong with F&C…. Wow…the restaurant is located upstairs with a view of the market town…first thing I noticed of how clean and tidy it was…not sure if new…but very impressed…bagged a window table… Ordered my F&C’s with mushy peas…bread on side with a cappuccino…. Now..with all had F&C’s but I must say…it was the best I’ve had in years…the fish was meaty…chip’s perfection…mushy peas tasty ..even the bread was fresh… Cappuccino nice… April the waitress was on her own with about 30+ guests in the hour or so there… She was on top form…serving everyone with a smile…good for her…a credit to the business and herself…thank you

Graylings as a small chain in North Devon is probably the best. Fish not too greasy, chips cooked perfectly, not an expensive chippy either compared to some.

Came in for takeaway. The best fish and chips indeed. Haddock size of a small whale ( maybe) and so tasty. Despite being very busy with the restaurant side, they produced my order very quickly. Staff on counter exceptionally friendly. Totally would recommend.

Would have given them 10 stars if possible! Great food, amazing staff! We arrived 5 minutes before closing time and were kindly attended. Fish and chips were cooked for us on the spot although it takes more than 5 mints to do so. Thank you guys! And, yes, amazing taste!!! I had an excellent meal of cod and chips at Graylings, complimented by one of the refreshing Luscombe drinks available. I highly recommend both! Everything was fresh, with crisp batter on the fish, and generous portions. We ate upstairs in the restaurant which is light, charming and welcoming. The staff are friendly and the service was prompt. All in all a great experience!

PICKED UP FISH AND CHIPS WITH CURRY SAUCE PREORDERED ON MONDAY 17TH AT 6.15PM, I WAS 2-3 MINUTES LATE BUT THE BATTER WAS EXTREMELY SOFT AND SOGGY AS IF IT HAD BEEN KEPT WARM FOR SOME LONG TIME. YOUR FOOD IS NORMALLY GREAT DONT KNOW WHAT HAPPENED THIS TIME, BUT I ATE IT IN MY CAT WITHIN A COUPLE OF MINUTES OF COLLECTIN. THE FISH WAS EXCELLENT THOUGH

Toilets extremely dirty, food disgusting. Most of it was swallowed up by the whale-looking worker who was there. I would suggest a weight watchers partnership for staff. Liquidate.

Huge portions of x2 large haddock and chips. Haddock was a tad overcooked. Chips were the best we ever had so far. The place is clean and we were served pretty fast despite the rush. I wish they were dog friendly.

Had wonderful good Friday fish and chips in the restaurant tonight, staff were so attentive, food was superb and one grandson had a strawberry milkshake which was huge. If you are in the area you just have to eat here.

Nice cod and chips. The regular portion is quite small for the price. A lot of scraps in the chips. Ordered two mushy peas and one curry sauce but got one mushy peas and two curry sauces.

I visited on a whim whilst on holiday; I was parked up in the nearby supermarket, and thought I'd wander into the shopping arcade. Graylings chips are outstanding! Crispy, flavourful, not soggy at all. And the battered sausage was amazing too, really crispy crunchy batter....

Popped in here today. My experience. The food, approx £16 for two portions of Cod and Chips. Very small in size. Chips soggy, bland. Fish small, chewy and tasteless. Can honestly say it was the worse fish and chips I have EVER tasted.

Very smart new restaurant on top of the existing excellent take away. Usual fab standard of food in a bright, light sit down setting, with wine! Great place to meet friends. Hope its a great success.

Newly refurbished 1st floor eat-in restaurant, and was really happy with our meal there. Surroundings and decor very modern and bright, without being clinical, with modern mid-century feel wooden furniture and lighting. Staff very welcoming, friendly and attentive, and of course the fantastic Graylings fish and chips. You can have a full meal, or just a coffee and cake, with a nice range of milkshakes and Luscome soft drinks, ciders and beers. They open from 10am to about 2pm and again 5pm to 9pm, so ideal for something before going to the cinema. Will definitely be returning regularly.
