A few weeks ago my fiancé and I went to The Skylark as he insisted I try a traditional English roast dinner. We were seated promptly, the fire was lit which made it really warm and cosy. We were served by Grace (the girl with long nails) who was fantastic, she made us laugh, made us feel really welcome and made sure that we had everything we needed. The Sunday roast was delicious, I went for a mixture of beef and pork the meat was very juicy and succulent. The cauliflower cheese was mouthwatering even though I don’t usually opt for cauliflower. The roast came with plentiful of gravy and fresh vegetables. I wish I grew up in England to have this wonderful dish everyday, I will definitely be returning! The bar was wonderfully displayed with a variety of liqueurs and lit with lagers and traditional ale pumps which looked simply beautiful. However a tall middle aged bedraggled looking man hanging around behind the bar making a cigarette I think, I’m not sure who he is but it didn’t look very appealing. Otherwise this pub is very pleasant and cosy, I hope to see you soon!

We came on Sunday lunch, people were waiting outside for the pub to open, so book! We couldn't stay to eat but the food looked so good we came back later for our roast dinner. Lively, everything beautifully cooked and tasty, the owner was a delight ensuring everything was to our liking. Sadly we couldn't return the next night, Monday, for the 7 for £7 😢

3 stars due to hardly being open even when it's opening hours and beer garden often closed, it's known by locals as "the pub that's always closed" so always call ahead and ask if garden is open too if you expect to sit outside. Countryside pub with outdoor garden. Always stop here for a drink after a long day of mountain bike riding and quick meal, I had sausage and chips before in outdoor garden on the one day it was open. Lots of play area for kids outside and cosy inside area for eating a meal with a good selection of larger and ciders. Can't wait to try more menu items, will have to come back on a day I'm not cycling and they're open.

Booked after recommendation from a friend. Arrived a bit early to be told we couldn’t sit in the top restaurant even though we had booked. The staff were polite and pleasant but seemed very rushed of their feet so very panicky. Thankfully, believe it was Vics boy sorted a table for us after a few minutes and managed to calm down the chaos. The roast dinner was nice - but frozen bought in yorky puds is just lazy tbf - would have been 4 if not of that - service especially after the lad made sure we had a nice table was fantastic though - overall good but slight changes would make it much much better

We held our daughter’s wedding at the Skylark in Clearbrook and I have to say that Victor, Matt and the team did us proud. What a great pub this is! Victor deigned a special menu for us and invited us to a tasting for the wines. They worked their socks off for us all afternoon and nothing was too much trouble. The food was superb – everything from Devon or Cornwall and beautifully presented. For anyone thinking of having their wedding in picturesque Devon you could not have a better venue.

I booked a Boxing Day table back on 28th October, spoke directly to Victor and had an email confirmation. We arrived to find it hadn’t been put in the diary but they found us a table. At 1:40pm when they came to take our dessert order they told us we would need to leave the table by 2pm as it was already booked! Yet there were others that were already eating before we arrived and were still sitting enjoying their post meal drinks! I found this very unfair as it was their error not ours. This was, in my opinion, very bad service and left us all unhappy.

We try to go to the Skylark for a meal out 3 to 4 times a year. We have learnt to book even if it is lunch time as the place is a must for a meal, or even just to go for a drink. The place can only be described as a typical countryside pub, where you are made to feel welcome whether you are a regular or your first visit. This is was the wife!s birthday and the steaks we had were perfectly done. Roll on our next trip there.

We arrived at The Skylark Inn and we were welcomed warmly by the staff and the owner Victor. We were seated at a table, the fire was roaring creating a calming ambience. Our drinks came quickly which was a bonus as the bottom half of the pub was fairly full. We were handed a pizza menu as well as a regular menu, which most of us chose from. We ordered a 12” Hunter’s Chicken pizza and a 12” Hoisin Duck pizza they were absolutely incredible I very much recommend trying them and the other pizzas they have to offer. The food arrived at an average time, the pizza’s came with your very own pizza cutter which was very convenient as we could cut it to how we wanted it. They were very reasonably priced for what you get compared to Pizza Express, Domino’s etc. I was very happy with the service, food, value and the atmosphere, I will definitely be returning. Booked a table for midday to hook up with close friends we hadn't seen for quite a while to enjoy a Sunday lunch and catch up with news etc. Seated promptly, drinks orders taken all with a smile and in a courteous manner. The Missus opted for the Roast Pork and myself the Roast Beef, our friends ordering the beef, pork and chicken and one taking the Rack of Ribs. If there's one thing I love it's a TRADITIONAL Sunday Roast, and the Skylark definitely delivered in this respect. The beef was tender and tasty, the vegetables were spot on, as was the roast dishes of our friends, along with the ribs. My wife always knows when I've enjoyed a meal as I completely clear the plate, as on this occasion. In a nutshell, if you like a traditional Sunday Roast, served in a traditional Country pub then the Skylark is most certainly well worth a visit. Booking is a must. I'm glad we did as by the time we left the place was heaving. That alone speaks for itself. Well done Team Skylark. As we say in Cornwall 'that were a proper job'

We came here for dinner with a tour group. This restaurant was extremely hot. I had to get up and leave several times during dinner as it was excessively hot in the restaurant. We asked for the SAC to be turned on and all they did was open a window. As we were leaving the owner apologized and said his electricity contract had expired and his power bill had gone from £500 monthly to £2,000 monthly. He said it rarely gets this hot here. OK. I hardly saw how that was our problem and felt he should raise his prices and turn on the AC. That said, I barely remember anything about the meal. I am not sure what I ate, as I only remember the heat, so I will not comment on the food but no one from the US wants to be subjected to a 100 degree restaurant while on vacation. This could have been a special evening on a much delayed trip to the UK and instead all that I remember is the stifling heat. The owner should have turned on the AC.

I can honestly say that this is one of the best pub meal experiences I have had in decades - everything was there from the word go. The down-to-earth service, the personal touches, the atmosphere which made you feel so welcome. I loved the way the specials were announced - all local fish, shellfish and meat. I went for the mussels in white wine and garlic as a starter and a ribeye steak from a very local source just down the road. the food was exceptional too. When I arrived at about 7pm, it was pretty quiet. When I Ieft an hour later, served at a pace that suited me, the pub was pretty much full, and it was a great atmosphere. With the three alcohol free bottles of lager I had, the total came to about £45 and I got a 10% discount card for the rest of the month for every time I revisit - I felt this represented excellent value. I used to go to a very similarly run pub about 35 years ago (OMG!) in my late teens/early twenties. Since then, running a traditional English pub has been something of a dying art. Here, they did it with ease, without breaking into a sweat, it was so natural, it was like theatre. I cannot remember enjoying a meal so much in decades, and I have dined out a lot over this time. It's not at all posh or pretentious and it's by no means a spit and sawdust pub either. It's brilliantly run in the middle section, just where I like it. No music, no TVs, no machines, just lovely customers from all walks of life coming together in a happy place for a fantastic Friday night out. The whole décor reeks authentic pub because it is clearly all absolutely genuine. I applaud the whole team, it is obviously run by consummate professionals with effortless ease. And no, I haven't been paid to write this review! I have never been here before and I only chose to go here with some reluctance because I didn't want to return to either of the two other pubs that had better Google reviews in the area, because both had failed to impress me at all. The Skylark Inn, by contrast, impressed me on every conceivable front and I cannot recommend a visit highly enough. Five stars? Six stars would be more appropriate, in my humble opinion.

Having read previous reviews we were more than disappointed when two of the four mains were sadly well over cooked. Also, lady in charge took a very laissez-faire attitude to our complaint. Yes she did make a cursory enquiry on satisfaction at table but hurried away before comment could be made and afterwards just dismissed our issue. The food was tasty just sadly spoilt and we were not the only ones with the same complaint. Certainly no apology or regret was shown. Very poor people skills not encouraging a return visit.

Our first visit and we were blown away by the warm welcome and lovely vibe. We had only intended to stay for a quick lunchtime drink but noticed the food being served and stayed for lunch. The choice was good but we settled for home...

No draught lager, so a pint of shandy cost £6 as you had to pay for a bottle of lager and a lemonade Carvery itself was underwhelming. Frozen Yorkshire puddings are always a bit of a let down. £16 for a large roast dinner which wasn't particularly large. It just meant you can have 2 of the 4 meats (1 slice of each) Beef overcooked, pork looked very fatty. Turkey was ok. Cauliflower cheese was raw. Gravy wasn't very good. Roast potatoes looked deep fried and weren't very nice. The leek gratin was very nice though. Wouldn't go again unfortunately.

Had an amazing Sunday roast here - service was fab and pub was warm and cosy. I've only knocked a star off as I paid £6.40 for a can of 0.0 guinness and half a lime and soda - which seems quite highly priced

Arrived at this pub on a wet and windy night and it was in darkness! Power failure. We were made welcome and brought drinks while we waited for power to be restored. Lovely meal and great service. Pub was decorated ready for Christmas and had a lovely atmosphere.

Would be good to see more salad or lunch options for those who aren't tempted by the lovely cakes
