The Drewe Arms in West Devon

We have just enjoyed the best Sunday lunch in a pub ever at this beautifully atmospheric old pub, nestled on the fringes of Dartmoor. Thick cuts of tender beef accompanied by a great selection of perfectly cooked vegetables, all washed down by a fantastic selection of beers. Can't wait to go back!

Amazing, amazing, amazing. The food was incredible and great size. The gentleman that served us was amazing and a great help with having to fussy kids at the table. Highly recommend, and I 100% will be back.

Heaven. The perfect pub in every way

Brilliant community-run pub with great selection of local beers and ciders and super-friendly welcome. Didn't actually eat here but there were plenty of people looking as though they were enjoying it.

What a brilliant pub! I was in there on a Wednesday evening and it was buzzing. Excellent selection of beers and I had the best fish and chips in the last six months - and that includes visits to fish and chip shops in Whitby, Oban and Whitstable. Excellent.

A welcome return to a brilliant pub! Absolutely worth a drive from Exeter to for the food alone - everything was perfect!!

Just dropped in to this pub on off chance, what a place! Community run, great beers, fantastic food and proper prices. If you are anywhere near here you owe it to yourself to give it a go. Proper local pub.

What a fabulous place! Had some delicious cider and a wonderful summer stew with mash (nice big portions), my friends' meals were all great too. The staff were all so friendly and helpful. Well worth the hike up and down the hills to get there and back. The pub itself has a great history and the little rooms are traditional and cosy. A proper gem!

We really enjoyed our afternoon with the family at The Drewe arms. The food was excellent including very delicious vegetarian options. It was dog friendly and Sam and Crystal made us feel right at home.

Lovely pub filled with lots of local people and lovely staff. Massive choice of beer, wine and local gin so perfect for a long evening in the pub garden overlooking the church. Would definitely recommend!

Just what a Dartmoor inn should be with superb food. The ploughman’s was a visual feast as well as a tasty one. Real cheese in perfect condition teamed with a colourful and tasty salad, olives, fruit salsa and pickled onions. An extra treat on the side were the beer battered peppers. Highly recommended.

Awesome community pub run by two lovely people. Good chat, good beer and they even fired up the fryer outside of food serving hours to make a couple of hungry travellers some life-saving chips. Loved this place.

I first came upon this pub by pure chance over thirty years ago on a trip to see Edwin lutyens architectural masterpiece Castle Drogo. The pub is about 400 years old with an unspoilt grade ll listed interior, an absolute gem serving top quality cask conditioned real ale. Any lovers of Real Ale and historic pubs need to visit this place. It is definitely in my top 10 favourite pubs in England.

So pleased to see this pub open again. We've been visiting the pub over the last 20+ years when we stay in Devon. It has such a lovely vibe, great variety of ales and ciders, lovely staff and has had a makeover giving it a fresh new feel. Looking forward to the future when the restaurant reopens, fingers crossed. (They do have some bar snacks but we didn't actually eat here). 😊

A community run pub with great character. Ales drawn from a gravity fed cask. Food menu limited at this moment in time but understand that will change. Choices were a ploughman’s lunch, chunky chips, fish and chips and Devon pasty with salad. If you like an Otter Ale this is the place to visit.

Fabulous old pub with bags of charm. Friendly hosts. Cosy fires, great ales, delicious simple food. Perfect lunch stop when visiting Castle Drogo, Chagford and Dartmoor. Well worth a detour from the A30 if you're heading for Cornwall. Top tip: the local roads are single track with passing places don't try it with a caravan or motorhome.

Beautiful and atmospheric pub with good selection of ales and tasty food. Very helpful, friendly staff. Close to Dartmoor and Castle Drogo. Park outside or in the village car park down the hill.

We popped in en route to Two Bridges as we had learned that The Drewe Arms had reopened. We were a bit worried as it was always a fabulous place in case it had changed too much, but it's the same old Drewe! Really friendly landlady, chef came out to make sure our ploughmans were okay...it certainly was, beer in very good condition. Surprised to learn how recently it had reopened as it seemed to be very 'bedded in'. An essential visit if your in the area, set in a very pretty location

We just dropped in after a trip around Castle Drogo. Lovely food, great atmosphere, local beer and family friendly too. For those with four legged friends, it is family friendly too. Big thumbs up to the community for taking ownership of such a lovely building and pub.

I can’t be complimentary enough about this pub. It has recently been reinvigorate by the community and has a lot of character and charm. The pub is cosy and the perfect haven for a pint in front of the fire after a blustery walk. They have a large selection of local beers and ciders. I will be back very soon!

Such a lovely pub, so much character and a lovely village location. Excellent friendly service, walking distance from Fingle Bridge and lovely walks. Good choice of drinks, haven’t eaten there yet. So glad it has reopened. Will be regulars.

The Drew Arms is currently closed.It has been purchased by croudfunding and after a refurbishment is hoping to reopen in March 2024..as a community pub...please visit in the Spring for a warm 🙏 welcome

Very warm welcome! It's been a pub since the 1600's! And there are stories to go with it! My boy's loved hearing them! They've not stopped telling their mates about our visit! Good luck to the new landlord btw!

This is a favourite pub of mine, it has been for over 30 years. Time has not been so kind especially over Covid period. It was shut over a period of time but so glad to see it back open. The place does need some love, I should imagine it can do very well like The Bell in Chittlehampton with some help. Dont shun the place off my review, please dont let that put you off. Go and try for yourself. These village pubs dont do do well when the weather is lovely as visitors tend to flock to the coast. Hopefully the owners will support the landlord to speed up maintenance and get this delightful old girl with a tap room, no bar as such back where she should be. in case not guessed were a yearly visitor ane back always look forward to a visit, well be back again before we depart. please use these pubs they have a lot to offer, part of our history.

Unspoilt old pub with great service, I would go back again.

Ham salad - VERY disappointing- u could see through the “wet” ham. Hunters chicken excellent. Very accommodating people. Didn’t like to bring attention to my meal. Would go back as were local but not have a ham salad or sandwich- bread was bog standard white yuk bread.

Wonderful location and atmosphere.

Lunch - good pub grub served with a smile and with good ales. Nothing pretentious here, just a real local pub. Evening Open Mic night. ...A great welcome for us as two holidaying buskers. Unusually for some mic nights, there were no prima donnas - just genuine and talented musos covering many styles. A really appreciative audience and musicians who'd stayed for the whole evening - not just doing their bit and leaving. An excellent night in a proper pub - thank you.

Lovely people...but food cooked to death

We had dinner and a few ciders here. The landlord was very friendly and food was typical pub club and tasty. The pub was busy with lots of chat and dogs.

Traditional thatched pub with excellent food and variety of beers and in particular ciders. Was originally run by Ms.Mudge who was at one time the oldest pub landlady in Britain. Well worth a visit.

It looked lovely but was shutting as we arrived. at 6pm. Oh for summer Sundays opening...

This is a historic and unspoilt pub of its era and very special for being so. If you can appreciate it for the gem that it is then great, but don't start looking for a jukebox etc. We called at a quiet time, the beer and ciders were good and the landlord told us a lot about the facinating history of the pub as it has been in his family for years. Would like to spend more time here.

Well worth negotiating the tortious narrow lanes to sample the excellent food and beer.Much praised for it's historic cosy interior.Been visiting here since Mrs Mudge was the country's oldest landlady.

A lot of the menu was unavailable, especially to me, as I am lactose intolerant. No pudding either. Brought my own milk for a cup of tea tasted a little strange tasting. Must be the water. Staff were lovely and pet friendly it certainly is, lots of doggies. The food was lovely but took a while to come.

Stopped by for lunch whilst Hiking the Two Moors Way. Nice old pub in a great location. Unfortunately the Otter beer was not great and the Ham in the Ham egg and chips was thin soggy ham out of a packet, what a shame!!

If you want a pint in one of the most beautiful parts of England the dropping in at the Drew Arms is highly recommend. The pub is a little bit like dropping into your neighbors for a pint. No real bar, more like a serving hatch into the kitchen but a great collection of ciders, beers and ale. Some food is offer as well.

It was OK, but a little dirty and disorganized. Breakfast was nice but not many amenities
