Lovely pub with open fireplace, great decor. Went with my family for lunch and we were all really happy with our food. I had a toastie with chips and honestly it is one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. Tribute and Jail Ale plus a good selection of beers at the bar. Looked like they were well stocked for gins etc too. Wish we'd had space for dessert.

Dropped in for lunch, have tried on another occasion, but this is a popular pub and busy at weekends so best to book. The staff were welcoming, the menu is interesting and the food good but on balance a little on the expensive side.

Fantastic service and a charming pub. The Blacksmith Arms had a good menu, with a dedicated vegan menu. The food was good- however the vegan dishes could have done with some tweaks (sunday roast: the gravy a bit watery, the nutroast a bit 'wet', and the cost should be lower vs meat alternatives). The vegan ice cream had little taste vs many other brands

We were a large party at this Pub a few weeks ago and they coped very well with all our needs, including two vegans. I thought the steak and ale pie was over-seasoned and personally I did not like the addition of rosemary. The pastry was lovely and the meat was very tender. The apple crumble however, was the best I've ever had, and I've eaten out a lot over the years.

I have eaten at a lot of restaurants whilst living in calstock. The Cornish Arms , The Rifle etc However the meal I had tonight was fantastic Service, cooking, cleanliness and atmosphere brilliant Lovely staff . We had calamari and sausages for for starters between 3. The 2 men had the beef/brisket burgers . They said it was the best burger they had for a long time. I had the Seabass , with two lovely prawns on top . This came with beautiful al dente courgettes and greens and a divine bisque type cream sauce not thick with superb flavour and consistency . Beers and wine lovely . They look after the lines .Portion size perfect . I really rate the Blacksmith Arms

Really enjoyed this pub. The staff were fantastic; so welcoming and just the right level of attentiveness. Food was delicious. We started with the terrine then had lasagne and duck cassoulet. Price was very fair. The one thing I would look at is the decor but it did not detract from an excellent evening.

We visited twice this week (19-23 June). We found it as a result of visiting another venue who were closed for food and all of their customers who were mainly locals immediately recommended the Blacksmiths. The food was faultless, service was excellent and the venue and atmosphere was a great balance between a friendly welcome and a high quality restaurant. A definite one to return to on our next holiday.

Superb quality food in a beautiful setting the refurbishment is top class and looks great outside and in. Would have been 5 stars all the way if not for slightly over attentive staff but that's being picky I know but when eating 4 times being asked if everything is ok, a bit much. Would thoroughly recommend this pub, we had the plaice with steamed summer vegetables and a lemon and coconut sauce 😋

Oh how we wished we could have given 5*. The staff were so friendly and accommodating to our needs. The atmosphere of the pub was pretty great, however there were just a few tiny details that did not hit the mark. The fish batter was not cooked to our preference. The crispy texture was definitely lacking. We would have preferred mush peas instead of standard peas. Considering how amazing the swede mash was for the roast, if they applied the same principles to the peas it would have been a winner. Apart from those two points everything was excellent. The highlight was the cheesy cauliflower and broccoli which I would love to have taken a tray home with me to eat for the next month ☺️. A 4 and a half star is a true reflection of our experience and not 4.

Fantastic experience at the Blacksmiths. Service was very good from start to finish and the restaurant was setup very well. The food was good and the freshly made relishes provided with each meal were delicious. The only slight disappointment was the lasagne, slightly burnt, small and a bit mushy. As good as it gets. Been back many times now, consistently excellent. Staff have really settled in, becoming more attentive, assured and good humoured. The food is high end pub grub with a twist and there’s a menu full of things you actually want to eat. I had monkfish scampi last night which was accompanied by a curry mayo and a remoulade / slaw with cockles. It was perfectly cooked and the flavours were interesting and balanced. A very safe choice for couples / dates / family birthday/ just pop in for a pint - everyone will be happy. This is what pubs need to be in 2024

Found this pub while on a drive and decided to pop in for a late lunch, despite us turning up at the end of food service the chefs were more than willing to accommodate us. Ordered the steak and ale pie and oh my goodness what a delicious meal it was! Even had proper carrot and swede mash which wasnt pureed! My partner ordered lasagne and my daughter had fish and chips which were also delicious. The chef wasn't happy with how my pie came out so sent out some free starters as an apology for the wait while they made it again. Wonderful pub and lovely atmosphere. Will definitely be back

First time visiting following the recent reopening. Was surprised just how busy it was but took that as a promising sign. As with many Devon restaurants/pubs, I'm always disappointed when there is no Devon cider on tap, Inchs was the only option. However, had a nice pint of Moretti. 2nd disappointment of the evening was the only main course fish dish was fish and chips. My partner ordered the lamb ragu pasta. On arriving it was minced lamb that more resembled a bolognese. A ragu is usually slow cooked lamb or beef that then falls apart. I had the steak pie that had a very thin crispy suet top, so not really a pie, a shallow dish with a very thin lid. I did get a few nice pieces of beef in a rich sauce inside though (but could have done with much more filling). It only came with mashed carrot and suede which was rather bland. It could have done with some butter and black pepper. The dish would have also benefited from some greens, even if just some peas. For the prices charged we left a tad disappointed and underwhelmed. Also, for a chef that's recently been on James Martin's TV show, we were expecting much better. However, the service was good and quick, although no one asked if everything was OK with the meal, either during or after.

Proper country pub with the right vibe. Staff are friendly and attentive and the management team are 'everywhere' making sure everything runs like clockwork. Food is delicious, and plentiful and arrives within a respectable time. The menu, whilst basic offers a wide enough range to suit most tastes however, the options for Vegetarian/Vegan are quite limited. As per most venues, allergies are catered for where possible. This Venue is dog-friendly! A range of drinks is provided at the bar with a good range of local products available, alongside some of the more regular non-local products. All in all, a lovely environment in which to whittle away a few hours in front of a welcoming log burner. Well done team!

We went in October 2024 for lunch with family. The Peter Tavy is a very popular pub on the edge of Dartmoor, and known for its ambience and excellent food. It's an old Inn and was complete with low ceilings, fireplaces, and wooden beams . We'd booked a table as we know it can be busy, and the team at the pub were expecting us. For myself, I had the Ham, Egg and Chips, and I can honestly say that it was the best ham I have ever been served in a pub, and I don't normally heap praise like that easily. The eggs were good, too, as were the chips. I also had a couple of pints of Tavistock Golden Ale, which is brewed locally and is a really good, bitter, beer. I live in Canada and miss a good English pint, so the Golden Ale was real high point my fortnight in the UK. The service was excellent; fast and efficient with very friendly staff. I can't speak to prices as the meal was paid for us, but I believe the bill was quite reasonable. The pub is a little off the beaten track (you get to it seemingly through a farm yard), but it's well worth the effort.
