We visited on NYE for a drink with our dog. We were allowed to sit anywhere in the pub that didn’t have carpet and the kind barmaid also pointed out that the fire was lit if we wanted to warm up. This pub has a lovely welcoming atmosphere with really nice staff. Our dog was made to feel very welcome and had more than one treat from the jar! We returned on NYD for a lunchtime meal and thoroughly enjoyed our food. Again our dog was accommodated and we had been given a corner table which was great because she curled up in the corner. My husband had sausage and mash which he thoroughly enjoyed and I went for the vegetarian loaded sweet potato which was very flavoursome. We were too full for pudding but had coffee and tea which was served with a ginger biscuit. The staff were attentive throughout without being overbearing. If we are ever in the area again we will definitely visit the Greyhound Inn.

We booked and stayed for one night en route to Plymouth. The first night of our holiday after a few intensive days of closing our house down. We looked forward to a wind down before our ferry trip and were expecting good cuisine. The day before leaving home a message arrived telling me my booking was at risk because the restaurant wanted payment and Booking.com do not share all of a clients details with the property owners. I thought this a bit strange so paid the restaurant with rooms. I went on to receive more messages telling me I might lose my booking. This was not a good start to the trip. On arriving at the venue the parking was very easy. On entering we waited and waited for someone to greet us but only a man drinking a pint made communication and told us someone would be along soon. So we patiently waited and eventually a lady appeared , asked our name and card details. We were shown to our room which was a fair size with a window you could only see out of if standing up. There was a small table with two chairs, tea and coffee but no milk unless you collected it from a shared fridge along the hall. The milk bottle was half full and there was a container of water that just had a bung in it. The hotel claimed there was WiFi but I was not able to access this. The bathroom towels had seen better days and were grey in colour, thin and mean. The water flow had very poor pressure and was difficult to get a flow from both hot and cold taps. I did manage to have semblance of a shower but wouldn’t have dared to wash my hair. The accoutrements in the bathroom were scant, a bottle of body wash and a bottle of hand soap. We had asked for a table for dinner at 7.30pm. but on arriving at the entrance to the restaurant and visiting reception/bar there was nobody around. After a little while a lady appeared to order a bottle of red wine to accompany her guests main course and the lady who was front of house said that she was about to bring a bottle of white that they had previously ordered. The client said no since they had finished their starters. We didn’t stay to eat and went along the road and ate in the village pub. They were friendly and inclusive. The bed was comfortable. It’s very difficult to review this establishments since I really do not like to exceed the negatives over the positives and I am clearly struggling. There were many good reviews of the food but we were deterred from this by the very poor front of house. Any hospitality establishment needs to have good , clean ,considered fittings with kind welcoming staff who give the impression of taking care of the clientele. Farthings fails hopelessly. The lady( still do not know her name) who fronts this establishment has a personality that would be better suited to the police/prison service . It is because of this lack of attention that we didn’t eat in the restaurant. On leaving the following morning we didn’t see anybody despite calling out so left the key on the bar. We paid £110.00 for this one night stay and I consider my money was wasted.

Had the Sunday lunch..the roast potatoes were very over done and even though I asked what was scattered all over the meal..the server never came back to offer an answer..so any allergys were not addressed she also did not offer any condiments of any kind..so I will be advising not to bother to visit this pub which is a shame for the new owners.

What a wonderful place to eat. My husband and I enjoyed a perfect breakfast here yesterday. My better half had a full English, cooked to perfection and demolished in record time whilst I devoured a delicious veggie breakfast. Although I'm not vegetarian, the sausages, as well as the other items, were spot on. Then, although I didn't really have room, I couldn't resist the children's sized pancakes. Greedy but gorgeous. I have visited the Fit Grill several times now and have never been disappointed with either the food or the friendly, helpful staff. Give them a go and make up your own minds. I would highly recommend the Fit Grill to family and friends. Brenda Slater
