The Greyhound Inn in Taunton Deane

Recently had a celebratory meal here for 14 of us. Service was excellent and the food was amazing, we did do a pre-order which ensured everyone’s meal was bang on. Big shout out to the staff who made it such a good day.

We were a table of 9. Lovely roasts and the children enjoyed there meals. Good staff, great beer, what more could you want.

Outstanding service all round. Staff very attentive. Went there for a Sunday roast. 2 had roast nut and cashew loaf, 1 had chicken, and the other had roast beef. Lovely presentation when turned up. Very filling. Had dessert too which 1 had pannacotta, 1 had sticky toffee pudding, 1 had apple pie and the other ice cream. Followed by tea and coffee. Lovely food. Need to book a table before arriving. Would recommend.

Stayed the night here and had dinner The superior king room had an uncomfortable bed, not much bigger than a double. £145 Noisy with traffic. Dinner average. £73. B’fast does not open till 8am- too late when travelling. The woman who seemed to be manager was unfriendly and not a good attitude An underwhelming, very overpriced experience Will not stay there again

My partner and I stayed here recently to break up a trip to the south coast. We arrived early evening and got quickly checked in and shown to our room. I don’t remember the staff members name but they were incredibly friendly and chatty throughout. We stayed in room six which was beautifully decorated and the bathroom was also really nice with a great shower, most importantly everything was super clean! We had dinner and a few drinks before turning in for the night, we both slept amazingly well as it was just so quiet. The following morning we had a great cooked breakfast with plenty of good coffee to set us up for the remainder of our journey. We really loved it here and would definitely stay again if we’re in the area.

I appreciate that prices have gone up but Guinness at £7.00 a pint is a bit steep for a country pub. It’s not in London or Dublin! Went to another pub locally and £5.40. They even had a bit of music on. Doubt I’ll be back.

I went to the greyhound inn for a bite to eat after reading the reviews saying the pub was quite nice. Little did I know that the waiting staff here would be some of the rudest I had ever met. They were unkind to both me and my husband who were being nothing but patient back. Don't recommend if you're going for a comforting meal.

Just a one night stay due to work commitments in Taunton. Had chosen this place due to very positive on line reviews and looked lovely in the photos. Access to this beautiful place is via a single track lane and very narrow roads - bear this in mind - we met a large recycling truck and had to reverse for a couple of miles. Huge car park on arrival. Very welcoming hosts. Stayed in their largest room which was comfortable and immaculately clean. Bed comfort was OK, a little creaky and lumpy but room was quiet throughout the night. Food here is the standout - had an evening meal and breakfast. The restaurant area was packed full on a Monday evening which shows they are doing a great job! Service was friendly and the staff were knowledgeable about ingredients etc. top notch! A couple of considerations if you are a business traveller (like me) - no phone signal OR internet service in the room - sat in the bar to work where internet service was a little better. No EV charging facilitates on site which was not a major issue - had called in advance to ask so charged enroute on the M5 in advance.

Went for a family meal for 6 including my elderly parents, my father has dementia and hardly eats anything and likewise my mother eats very little. Everywhere else we have ever been they have been allowed to order from the children's menu. Here we were told they do not do that but could have a doggy bag for any leftovers. Service was poor, the waitress stood at the end of the table stoneyfaced and my mother at the other end had to shout her order out three times, would not have taken much effort to have walked around the table to take our order. Overall an average meal with poor table service.

Lovely pub, with great staff, but a waiting time of at 40 minutes for a sandwich meant we could not eat here as limited for time.

7 of us stopped by for lunch today and couldn't have felt LESS welcomed, we waited outside the locked door although the bar man inside could see we were there.. 10 mins after the opening time the barman unlocked the door and asked if he could help us.. we asked if they were open and he replied 'not for food' I asked if we could come in and we ascertained food would be served from 12pm (20mins) we sat down and I visited the ladies room where the water in the wash basin ran brown.. I politely informed a member of staff who responded "welcome to the country!" Very patronising as I've lived in the country my whole life and I was only informing him incase there may be a problem. We left without eating and won't be returning - we live locally and will be informing all of our friends and family of the poor attitude of the staff here. I don't know if this was because we were a party of women and children? Would I have been spoken to like this if there was a man in attendance? FYI we went to the Five Dials in Horton instead which are always super friendly!

A delightful surprise. We were in Somerset and came across the Greyhound towards the end of the lunch period. After dashing into the bar out of the rain we had a lovely welcome. Although the pub was busy our order was taken and the drinks and food arrived quickly. The food was hot, well prepared, tasty, and reasonably priced, facilitated by good service. A genuine country pub feel. We will be back.

Stayed just the one night last week and we were very impressed with the whole experience. We arrived early evening and checked into our rooms (Curland Room and our friends in the Staple Fitzpaine room) before heading down for dinner which we had booked in advance. The food is absolutely fantastic, cooked fresh to order and served piping hot on very warm plates. Our room was lovely and spacious with everything we needed and the king size bed was extremely comfortable ensuring we both slept well. The full English breakfast was also superb and there were cereals, yoghurts and fruit juice available too. A final comment must go to the staff - everyone we spoke to from checking in to checking out were polite, friendly and very helpful, an absolute credit to the Greyhound Inn. We have already recommended this pub to our friends and family should they take a trip to the Taunton area. Just a shame we couldn't have stayed longer.

We booked and came as a family of 3 for a Sunday carvery. The pub itself is in a lovely location and has amazing decor inside. The staff were all very friendly and kind/welcoming. They all accommodated for any requests and the service was very quick which was nice. The food was delicious and well presented too. Would definitely come back again soon.☺️

food was lovely The staff were great except the potato it was powered potato . Considering it was evening this is unacceptable. Its not time consuming to do mashed potato with real potatoes. We were unsure if to go again after our last visit where we had Sunday lunch with no Yorkshire pudding which they got for us and they were frozen

We stayed here for one night while making a brief visit to family in Taunton. We arrived relatively late and had a couple of drinks at the bar, but we didn't dine at the pub, so this is a review of the Greyhound solely as a B&B. In short, lovely cosy-yet-spacious room, delightful setting, good breakfast, but let down by a lumpy and unsupportive mattress which meant we both slept badly. We did mention the problem when we checked out. Our comments were acknowledged, but nothing was offered by way of an apology or a good-will gesture such as waiving our bar bill. Such a shame, everything else was great, and I don't lightly leave negative reviews for small independent businesses, but a bad night's sleep due to a poor quality bed is not something that can be easily overlooked, particularly when paying a premium compared to Premiere Inn etc.

Comfortable pub and good service but the menu never changes, no specials, no variation whatsoever - so if you use this as a regular meeting point you’ll be as bored with the choices as we are.

Excellent food and ambience. Friendly staff and food orders took very little time to be served. A decent range of menu items. The interiors were warm and rustic with a great country pub feel to it.

We were a group of 5 who enjoyed a wonder meal on a Sunday night in early November. The food was superb and very fairly priced. The Staff were thoroughly professional and clearly enjoyed working there. I would strongly recommend this lovely Pub to anybody as a place to eat. The ambiance and atmosphere was excellent. A thoroughly enjoyable visit and we will return!

Been their quite a few times we found the Sunday roast exceptionally good, well cooked and presented. However if you go regular in the week the menu can get predictable, hence the 4 stares snd not 5.
