An unexpectedly great restaurant, with interesting and beautifully cooked food. Great service, wish we could still eat there!

Stopped here for a quick snack before going to Alfred’s Tower. Ben was such a good and friendly host and offered delicious coffee and cake especially the carrot cake. Highly recommended!!

Fantastic pub. A very warm welcome, a great log fire and a fabulous menu. Two of us had lunch and we went with the burgers - meat and vege were both delicious with great onion rings and chips. The whole menu had plenty to choose from - lots of fresh/local ingredients. The owners couldn't have been more friendly/helpful and we will happily go again.

I decided not to order breakfast, but a slice of cake. Came out of a fridge & nowhere near fresh. The coffee disappointing. They offer one price on the internet, but arrive there and the prices highly inflated. Overall the place looks run down, inluding the adjacent tat shop which looks closed down. Dire need of a manager

Lovely birthday lunch in the Botanical Rooms at the incredibly restored Newt. Had heard much of the place, was gently scared of who might be attracted to somewhere where so much cash had been so obviously spaffed at its renovation. Should not have feared. At all. Not only were the other guests entirely normal (families, couples) but in the entire visit there was only one buffoon wanging on his mobile about acceptable rates of return while wearing presumably horrifically-expensive tramp-chic trackie bottoms... and he was only in the porch. Possible due to discreetly forceful staffing. I have no idea (but one can dream, eh ?). Food was superb. Actually, perfectly sized for lunch - beautiful mushrooms, perfectly cooked fish, cleverly presented carrot with flank steak. Clearly, an expert was toiling away. Service was genuinely superb - even down to the recommending of a South African non-alcoholic drink called something like SpamWhacker or BritHitter or something. Brilliant stuff. Anyway, well done, thank you, delicious. Great wines, too. Tip: if you have lunch there, you can get over to the Roman Villa that they've painstakingly reconstructed. It really is quite something. It really is.

After reading the negative reviews on trip adviser we decided we were going anyway and we weren't disappointed yesterday we had to wait a little while for food yesterday the staff were running around trying to keep everyone happy and doing a great job while doing so. Food was excellent relatively cheap eat and drinks give it a try they've definitely got busier over the past few months.
