Enjoyed a lovely dinner for two recently. Drove from Wincanton. Short drive out into countryside, pretty easy to find with satnav. Booked ahead. Bar area seemed busy with diners and drinkers though we were seated in the large ish restaurant which was less so. In any event we enjoyed the food (mains - lamb pudding and rump steak cooked to wife's taste- both tasty followed by bread and butter puds from the specials board). Staff were very pleasant and efficient. Nice welcome at bar when we first arrived from female staff member who promptly took our drinks order then showed us to our table. Nice atmosphere in restaurant, albeit quieter than the bar area.

Refurbished traditional pub building into a super modern pub / restaurant. Used by a lot of locals. Good menu with "special" nights eg Curry. Food was well presented, tasty and of a high quality. Wide range of drinks. Enthusiastic and competent staff made this a memorable evening. Go but suggest you book ahead.

We recently attended a gathering after a Thanksgiving Service at this pub. Mediocre ‘finger food’, friendly waitress but she had not been briefed to hand round either food or wine. The view from the pub terrace is pretty- shame that the landlord is so unwelcoming to the point of surliness.

Best pub food that I have enjoyed in a long while. The menu manages to go beyond the tedious 'pub classics' although some were present for the unadventurous. You can tell a good chef by his sauces and gravies and my food was delicious throughout. Two guests similarly impressed. Pity the pub is a bit too far from my home for me to be a regular visitor. The locals are very lucky. Smiling polite and efficient service, and a prompt kitchen.

A delightful, warm and welcoming pub, my favourite - there are two wood burners & so you immediately feel the warmth when you enter on a chilly winter day - just what you want. It's also friendly and in my opinion the food delicious and beautifully presented. If only other pubs could learn from this one - how to provide good service and 'delight' the customer. Sadly, this level of customer service is not the 'norm' for most.

We booked for Sunday Lunch on the hope that there was availability. Sean emailed back the same day and kindly booked us in. When we arrived, there was a traditional, cosy bar and we were shown through to a beautiful restaurant area which has the most stunning views of the countryside and Alfred’s Tower. Our waitress was amazing and they had prepared a menu for my son who has allergies. The service was exceptional and the food was fantastic: Hot and delicious. I would happily eat there every week. I saw that some people thought it was expensive but for excellent quality food with great staff and a lovely atmosphere I was happy to pay £20 per head and then drinks.

We planned a "Somerset Sojourn" of four nights away visiting gardens in the area, and picked the Seedhouse Air B&B in Shepton Montague (very good, highly recommend). The Montague Inn therefore became our "Local" over the weekend and we visited for evening drinks, an evening dinner, and a Sunday Roast. Each time we entered we received a warm and cheery welcome and great service throughout. My wife was pleased there was Butcombe IPA Zero on draught (she cannot drink alcohol, but loves a decent beer) and I enjoyed several glasses of their House Red, which was very quaffable. The food was very good on both occasions - no nonsense, sensible portions, great quality, and reasonable prices. The serving staff were friendly and attentive, chef was happy to tweak my meals to adapt to my needs, and the general vibe of the place was just what you would hope for at a local pub! We hope to return in the Spring and will definitely eat and drink here again - thoroughly recommended. Thank You Sean and Team!

We heard this was a good place to eat. In our visit we found it quite brightly lit and modern inside, with a large restaurant which on our was too hot and humid to sit in. Slightly Seventies style - not what we were expecting. The outside terrace however was very nice. We had to ask a few times for the menu but food arrived promptly and was absolutely fine. Note the prices are a little higher than most pubs in the area. The main disappointment was in trying to pay. We asked three different waiting staff members for the credit card machine and spent maybe fifteen minutes trying to sort this out. In fairness the last waitress was apologetic and did bring the machine without delay.

We enjoyed the lunch. There were limited vegan and vegetarian dishes on the menu. The waiter however told us that the chef would adapt the menu if we required. When we ordered the vegan burger the waiter ensured that vegan coleslaw was prepared. I asked for a vegetarian starter in a larger main meal sized portion. This was superb. One of our group ordered the pulled pork: excellent. The fish and chips were served with home made tartar sauce and thrice cooked chips. The fish was somewhat disappointing: rather dry and the batter ordinary and heavy. The service was excellent. Was disappointed that the neighbouring farm cider and apple juice was not available.

The atmosphere in the restaurant was calm, friendly and homely. We were situated near the window overlooking the lovely open view at the back of the pub. There was outside seating available as well. We visited this pub on a busy Saturday lunchtime towards the end of service. We were warmly welcomed, supplied with drinks and given a table near the fire. The menu isn't huge but I much prefer to have fewer dishes done really well, than a huge menu which is so extensive that the majority can only be cooked in the microwave. We both opted for the Hake on a risotto and I can honestly say it was absolutely superb. I am not a fish lover but because I trust the standard of food in this pub I thought I would give something different a try.I was not disappointed. The portion of fish was large and it was so succulent it just came away in lovely flakes. To be fair, the pub is very nicely appointed, and the staff was good. However, when I inquired about the pie, I was told that it was beef and ale. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a shallot onion, mushroom, and a small amount of beef pie. Given that the beef in a pie is a cheap cut, why be stingy? The food was, as usual, excellent. We really enjoyed it----But although the waitresses were a joy, the waiting time for our first course was just over one hour from ordering, which is a trifle excessive we think. Can't fault the food though---We will come again when it is less likely to be busy.

No atmosphere, long delays before we were approached by waiting staff and even longer wait befor food arrived. Food very average, would not go again

Great pub in the beautiful village of Shepton Montague. Plenty of room inside but the patio dinning area outside has stunning views across open countryside. Good choice of draught beers and Cider. Good menu and delicious food served quickly and caringly.

Several friends recommended this lovely local pub/inn. They were not wrong. The whole place is cozy and friendly but the tables are not on top of each other. The menu is not huge six or seven dishes with a couple of daily specials but the dishes all have special features and are extremely well cooked and presented. The service is quick and unobtrusive, the drinks brought quickly and the result is an eclectic mix of local and visitors of all ages in the bar and restaurant. They all enjoy themselves. Set the satnav and go and visit and if you have time enjoy a game of boule.

Outstanding quality and service for a Saturday afternoon lunch in this lovely countryside pub in the beautiful surroundings of Somerset. Simple lunchtime menu but superior quality food with real cotton napkins - a sure sign of quality and attention to detail. Highly recommended for food quality and a good choice of local ciders.

My goodness this place was excellent! Fast, efficient, courteous service, delicious food - I mean really delicious and so reasonably priced! It was full when we went but in spite of this service was excellent so they got a big tip and we’ll be back!

Staying in Wincanton on a National Trust weekend trail. Found this pub on google. Read the great reviews and decided to go. What a great decision. From the moment we walked in we were made to feel welcome by the staff and friendly / jovial landlord. The food was exceptional. All home made. Please try the rhubarb Eton mess!! The beer is well kept too. Fully recommend this pub.

Fabulous food with outdoor space in summer. Buzzy and friendly but decor rather sparse. Risotto and moules frites were exceptional for pub food.

Love coming to this pub, usually on a Sunday for roast, always good banter and lovely food. Dog friendly which is a bonus. Nice and clean too!

Booked for dinner but on arrival, they thought we had booked for buffet, fortunately they had a table for us within a short time so we had a pre-dinner drink in the bar, which is fabulous and then went for a lovely meal in the Bistro, it is a small and intimate restaurant and quite modern and food is served on hot rocks, which you cook yourself to your own taste. Nice concept and food was really lovely BUT find that it gets pretty smoky when it is very busy. This is not a unique concept to us and it was a very nice change. Service was attentive and good and wine selection is great. Little pub at the Langport Arms is friendly and wonderful for pre or post drinks too.

Simply the best Fish and Chip shop around. You can get most of the menu as a gluten free option too. The staff are fantastic too. Thank you everyone for your wonderful service 😍

What a delightful place to stay at. We stayed for a couple of nights to visit the surrounding area and had the friendliest welcome and comfortable stay. James, the waiter in the evening, was a credit to them. He helped you choose what to eat and was attentive and friendly. The food was outstanding, especially the fish dishes. The breakfast was the best we have ever had and was cooked to order with local produce. Cannot wait to return.

The chip shop has been closed for a while due to staff going on holiday. Last night we very much enjoyed our chips, chicken and curry sauce.
