What a shame to see this place go. Thoroughly enjoyed breakfasts and cakes in The Front Room. Excellent food, lovely staff and a cracking cuppa.

My brother has tried just about every Indian restaurant in the North East of England, and I have been with him to a number of what he considers to be amongst the best - which means they have to be good value too. For comparison, we also like Red Hot in Darlington, Ashoka in Seaham and any of the Mumbai chain (Haswell, Hartlepool etc). We go to Tashan for the FOOD. How lovely to be able to have an Indian meal without feeling guilty - the curries are healthy, not laden with fat, and none of the starters are greasy. I love the authentic street food options such as sweet potato chaat, and there are a number of more unusual "home style" dishes - including Indian desserts. Depending on how hungry you are and what you fancy you can have a very filling four course set meal (good value "early bird" available), just a main course, or you can mix and match starters, street food, even fast food (an Indian veggie style burger in a bun with masala chips is a very tasty alternative to a McDonald's!) The Indian breads are light and crisp. Tashan also serve the best mango lassi I have had anywhere - really smooth and fruity, served by the glass or in a big jug. Don't judge this restaurant by the location - the food is of a very high standard and nicely presented, the service is friendly and attentive and the atmosphere very relaxed (you don't need to dress up!). Currently my favourite Indian restaurant! Tashan deserve 5 stars for service, food and value (TripAdvisor button not working to give this rating).

I popped in for drink one tuesday night, got involved in the fun quiz and have been going back every Tuesday night, and live microphone nights and busker nights, this is your village pub with its good selection of beers and lagers, wine by the glass or bottle, and double maxim a Sunderland brew made by the defunct Vaux Brewery and Newcastle Brown,,and to sit and take easy by one of the two real fires yes it full marks to Trish And Mick for keeping the old ambiance

As a group of friends we visit this restaurant 4 or 5 times a year and we have always enjoyed the delicious food. The staff have always been friendly and professional. However, this evening was spoilt by a very rude and impatient waiter. He leaned across people who were in conversations. He interupred conversations. He was impatient taking our orders. Two of our company ordered desserts which were plonked down infront of them. Immediately after serving their desserts he asked if anything else was wanted, then he slammed the bill down on the table. He was watching us and as soon as the desserts were finished he was over again to ask if we were paying cash or card. We politely told him that we still had drinks to finish. We felt he was almost drumming his fingers waiting. As we finished our drinks one of the party reached for her purse and he was back again stating 'so your paying by cash then'. As ususal the food was very nice and the ladies who served our food were professional and charming. However, this young mans attitude really spoiled our night. I could have understood if we were being rowdy or disruptive, which as a group of retired professional people we were definitely not. Or, if the place was full and they needed the table, which it was not. Or, if it was late at night and the staff wanted to go home, it was 9.30pm. We usually leave a very generous tip especially at Christmas time, but none of the group were willing to contribute tonight. In fact we are thinking of using a different venue for our future get togethers as we do not liked to be watched and hurried as we dine.

This "Take Away" serves restaurant quality food. We had delicious onion bhajis, chicken dopiaza & garlic nan. User friendly option to pay online before collecting as they do not accept card payments on site.
