It was one of the very best traditional eateries, but sadly, Nico's has closed its doors for the last time.
I can only say 'thank-you' to Theo and his staff for all the excellent, happy and enjoyable meals I've eaten there. You were the best!
We live a pie and mash but this wasn’t it ! The liquor isn’t authentic and the pie crust wasn’t the usual suet pastry
Harringtons tooting is the best pie and mash hands down, thank me later
The name marks this restaurant out from the ordinary run of Italians, pointing rather to the raw materials of a cuisine that is well designed and executed. So it is on the menu too, and there is an attractive map of the provenance of ingredients from around the UK. There are also fun cocktails, and a well chosen wine list. Service is cheerful and attentive - this was on a less than busy evening.
A quick Google search found this place as we were at the Kids V&A today. So pleased we ate there. The world’s most chilled waiter was happy to bring out a table and chairs so we could sit outside. The restaurant was rammed, so he literally found us a table! Lovely day, so we were happy to sit out.
Service excellent
Puzzle incredible
Sides scrumptious
The only negatives…? They’d run out of cutlery! 🤦♂️😂. We weren’t too bothered but a fork would have been useful for the sides. And the pizza cutter took a while to come out too, so was sat with 3 young and hungry kids waiting a little longer than I’d have liked.
So, please invest in a bit more cutlery, and perhaps some cutters too!
Otherwise, my wife classifies this as the “best pizza she’s ever had in the UK”!!! And she’s fussy. But it was great pizza with decent service so I’d absolutely recommend and return myself!!!
I couldn't recommend this place more. We'd been looking for a good Turkish restaurant to dine at for a while, and only happened to stumble across this one while going for a run along the canal. It's just off Mile End Road but is so peaceful in comparison. It's well-decorated and has a balcony to dine outside in the summer months that looks over the canal. The service was extremely good (almost fine-dining standard). The food itself was delicious and generous portions - the bread in particular was extremely tasty. We're planning to go again for sure!
We enjoyed our whole experience here. Super efficient friendly staff. Very tasty piping hot fresh food.
Salt and pepper squid and spring roll starter were very good. Our mains of braised pork and chilli chicken (plethora of chillies mind) were also spot on. All that food, 2 wines 2 beers for little over £70 was really good value. Beware though the portions are huge
Good coffee, properly prepared. Nice seating at the back and, in the warm months, outside. Staff was professional, prices are at the high end for the area.
We asked a passer by in the street for good Indian food and were recommended this place. Very friendly staff. They took their time to explain the dishes for us. Place is very spartan, but clean. Food is good. Most bang for the buck during our stay in London.
Most do take away from here, but they have a couple of tables at the back.
This has been a staple of mine for thirty years or so, but I haven’t been for a few years. Completely gone downhill, the food was inedible. I was mightily surprised to read in The Observer the next day that Gilbert & George still go there regularly. I think it must be an old line they continue to trot out.
No complimentary mezes as you get in most places. The homemade bread wasn’t baked properly. The meat was undercooked. The floor was slippery, the place appeared dirty, and the service was indifferent.
