The best restaurants in Ellington Huntingdonshire East of England

Andrew and Lizzie have worked wonders with this pub. If you want a traditional pub atmosphere in a wonderfully tastefully renovated building visit the Green Man . You will not be disappointed. Andrew, an extremely experienced publican, and Lizzie are brilliant hosts who not only make visitors feel genuinely welcome but offer an excellent array of beers, wines and spirits. We wish you every success with your new project. You deserve it.

Visiting family near Huntingdon we went to the Mermaid Inn at Ellington yesterday, my sister in law had been before & recommended it. We were lucky to book a table, it's a lovely quaint old inn in a gorgeous village with some thatched cottages, with several small characterful rooms & a few steps. The staff were all very friendly & efficient. 3 of us had the 3 meat roast & I had the roast pork with crackling, the meat was lovely except my husband would rather have had chicken slices than a drumstick with his beef & pork. The home made Yorkshire puddings were excellent, the roast potatoes were garlicky & delicious, there were plenty of vegetables in the tureens to share & a dish of cauliflower cheese, it was a lovely big portion of roast dinner. We all enjoyed it, the gravy was delicious too. I was too full for pudding but the other 3 really enjoyed theirs. Plenty of choice from home made apple crumble & custard to Bakewell tart, chocolate brownie, trifle or cheesecake etc. It was a gorgeous meal in a nice environment & we would definitely return when visiting again, not cheap but quality homemade food & worth it.

Exactly how an old English pub should be

We called in here on our way home and even though it's 90 minutes away from our home we are looking forward to our next visit. A charming pub, terrific food, absolutely terrific as good as good pub food could be. All accompanied by a great staff and a great whisky selection. I wish I lived close enough to walk here.

I’ve dined at this place multiple times and been a regular customer. The way I was treated today was appalling and is the final straw. I will never go there again. The steaks were spoiled and the meat was stale. When I complained the Manager Zara was extremely rude and unprofessional, refusing to accept the meat wasn’t up-to standard although my family and I have dined there many times. She gave us a new steak after insisting on getting a new piece and waiting half an hour which was significantly better proving the initial steak was off ; yet she refused to accept that it was spoilt and tried arguing with us about it! She then proceeded to accuse us of being RACIST! Which was incredibly rude and insulting as we’d never even mentioned race and I am of African descent. It was extremely accusatory and offensive to hear that from her. I’ve spent thousands at this restaurant and they’ll never hear from me again given how we were treated. Truly disappointed. We spent a lot of money but got lousy food and service The restaurant is also dirty and washrooms are filthy. Never again to Steakout. I will also complain to the authorities about this.

We visited here for our 30th anniversary lunch. First time under new ownership. It did not disappoint. The food was superb, along with sevice. It has bern added to our list of regular go to places. It is dog friendly, and a lovely garden too.

Expensive and the slip road to get back onto A14 is tiny and really dangerous

We arrived and asked for a Pimm’s the staff were unsure what this was. After receiving our drinks we waited in the garden for our food which was brought and incorrect. I sent back my sandwich and requested a new one. With that I was then asked to go in and refund my sandwich and pay again. Even though the new sandwich was cheaper that what I originally paid for. I was then charged extra. Wouldn’t recommend this place, slow service and rude staff/owner.

23 people for Christmas Eve lunch and the food and service were absolutely superb. Would highly recommend the Pheasant…

Great Food & Service!!Visited one afternoon, was quiet but i was served really quickly by friendly staff who chatted to me while making my sub. Place clean and tidy. Last time I visited here over a year ago was not very clean and rude staff. This branch has maybe got a new franchise owner as was very impressed at how much better it was compared to last time!!! Well done to Subway Spaldwick!

Would have loved to give more than one star. Very disappointed to find a very amateurish sign on the counter saying “closed”. The counters were full of cakes and sausage rolls etc but they didn’t have any staff to serve them. So instead of a bacon roll and coffee we had a bar of chocolate and water…..not quite the same. They quite often have staffing problems at this location
