This is my third visit to Bonhomie since it changed from Belgique. I have to say that I was not particularly impressed with my previous two visits, having always ordered the avocado on toast. The first time it was served on white bread without having been given the option to chose another type of bread. Also, it was literally what it said in the tin i.e. a sliced avocado on a slice of white bread, no dressing. The second time I said that I would like to have it on brown bread please. Again, it came as a sliced avocado on a slice of bread. Both times it came with a poached egg and a minimum amount of garnish. Nothing to do with the nice avocado on toast served in other local cafés. For this reason, when my friend suggested Bonhomie today, I said that I wasn't a fan. However, as it was convenient for it is local, we went. Our waiter was a young man, that couldn't understand my foreign accent, despite my having been in this country for 20 years, my partner being British and me being a professional person developing my profession in the area. I repeated my order of green tea, avocado on toast (I thought maybe third time lucky), no butter several times but he kept asking for my order time and time again, to the point of making me feel embarrassed. It has never happened to me anything like it before. The young man tried to excused himself saying that it wasn't my accent, that it had been a long day (it was 11am). When eventually the food came, it was the saddest thing I have ever been served in a café - a slice of bread (brown, thank goodness) with a mushy avocado on top, again no dressing and this time, no garnish and no egg. Due to the previous embarrasment, I decided not to complain anymore, my friend and I laughed and promised not to come back again on future occasions. When I arrived home, I told my partner what had happened and he said that I should have complained, that it was not right that I was charged full price when my food was so below par and it was actually missing ingredients. I thought about going back on the following day to personally talk to the manager. Then I read the review when the owner said to a customer to go to McDonald's when the customer complained about the service (?), and I thought that I had already been sufficiently embarrassed in this establishment. Therefore, I wasn't going to risk to be told to go to McDonald's (or somewhere else). Not sure if McDonald's will be my choice next time, but it definitely won't be Bonhomie.

Lovely Turkish restaurant, this is our favourite one so far!! Food is amazing, service is really good!! I ordered grilled mushrooms and the salmon fillet. My boyfriend ordered crispy battered prawns and chicken shish. He loved it!! I tried a bit of his chicken, tastes so good!!!!! Rice is soft, the salad is flavoursome and the salmon is beautiful!! We are 100% coming back here!!

Wonderful little Turkish restaurant in Theydon Bois. I can highly recommend the Mediterranean Breakfast (pictured) and the lemongrass and ginger tea. Service was attentive and cheerful from all staff. Will definitely be stopping back here next time! ✅️

The service was excellent and the staff very friendly. The food came out in good time and very well presented. The taste from my chicken wrap was incredible, and the chicken was soft & moist. I would absolutely recommend this place and would certainly be coming back again.

Amazing restaurant! I visit regularly with friends and the food never disappoints. Very reasonable prices for the food and the service is amazing :) I cannot recommend this spot enough, perfect for casual dinners or even for fancier occasions!

So although living not far away I have not used this pub for many years. However, I had passed it frequently and always loved the lights outside and the cozy look of this pub. I decided after reading so many great reviews to give it a try. I am so glad that I did. My friend and myself visited on Saturday night and was surprised how cozy the pub is, lots of regulars just sitting and enjoying a chat and a drink (dogs too) not chatting obviously!. It has a real village type vibe. Warm and welcoming. On arrival we were met by a lovely lady who showed us to our table. We were surprised how small the restaurant is, but it adds to its coziness. We ordered our meals which came up promptly, lots of it and hot (so many restaurants serve cold food)! Our waitress was a lovely young lady called Faith. What a charming lady she is. Very smiley, chatty and couldn't do enough and also checked our meals were okay. All of the staff in h ere are really lovely, warm and welcoming (a rarity these days). We will 100% be coming back (we are told the best thing on the menu is the piue!) but all of the meals looked lovely. So glad that I decided to try this place as we will be using it again and again. Just a note to anyone who is visiting, the car park is very small maybe a dozen spaces. Unfortunately whilst I was waiting I noticed 2 people with very large cars who were clearly not in the pub but had come from the Indian up the road and chose to use the spaces in this car park. Silly really as parking after 7 is free. There is a notice from the pub asking people not to use their car park as it loses them custom. Sadly either people are unable to read or are just too lazy or tight to pay for parking before 7. Probably both of the latter. Anyway if you haven't been please do visit this pub is a rarity these days. Good food, lovely staff and really friendly.

Let me start by saying: the food here is outrageously good. The sandwiches are divine, the cakes are borderline spiritual experiences. I work in Debden, yet I willingly walk to Theydon Bois at lunchtime and catch the tube back, just to get my hands on a Bakewell tart that tastes like it was baked by angels. But then you meet her. The blonde woman behind the counter is less “service with a smile” and more “served with a sneer.” Miserable doesn’t even scratch the surface — she’s like a black-hole in an apron, draining every ounce of life from the room the moment she opens her mouth. Rude, condescending, and so aggressively unpleasant that she could suck the joy out of a lemon tart from 50 paces. What really turns my stomach, though, is the way she treats the Asian woman who works alongside her. You don’t need a HR degree to see it’s bullying. it’s blatant, cruel, and deeply uncomfortable to witness. The poor woman deserves a medal, or at the very least, a workplace free of passive-aggressive jabs and public dressing-downs. I’ve given this place three chances. Three. Because the food is that good. But each time, I’ve left feeling like I need therapy and a sage cleansing. I just can’t keep rewarding this behaviour, it’s like emotionally abusive fine dining. So here we are: five-star food dragged into the gutter by one woman’s catastrophic lack of people skills. I won’t be back, and that breaks my heart, but my dignity is worth more than another of their cream cakes, not matter how sublime.
