Good food, great portions, nice people

Came here tonight for our 21st wedding anniversary. Haven’t been here for a few years but loved the welcoming and attentive atmosphere that is provided and decided we wanted to come back to celebrate our anniversary. We were not disappointed. We were made to feel like we had only been there yesterday. All the staff are amazing and as for the manager he came over and greeted us and surprised us with an amazing lamb dish. This is how all restaurants should be run. They make you feel like family and provide you with amazing homemade food. Thank you all for a lovely evening. Will see you all soon.

Staff are great, seem to be able to remember most people who use it. Food is very good, and quite a good range. Normally end up taking some home for the following day.

Avoid. Worst curry I’ve had in ages. Ordered the chicken balti and it tasted like BBQ sauce. Don’t know what’s happened because this place was good. Get the old chef back asap!

Really enjoyed my meal here. Large portions of curry mains, everything was top notch. Nice staff. 100% reccomend this place!

This place used to do such good Indian food, with great service. We revisted this week and found the food quality has diminished, with the dishes fairly tasteless. The service also used to be tip top, but they did nothing to earn their tip. I spent about 10 minutes trying to attract someone for more overpriced beer (£6.95 a pint). We left disappointed and won't be in a rush to go back.

Wondering atmosphere, lovely, kind and friendly staff nothing is too much trouble they treat you like old friends and the food is absolutely amazing have been eat here for 10yrs + and would never hesitate to recommend this place.

TOP of its Game. You will not find much better than this little gem of an Indian restaurant. Please try the RESHMI KEBAB for a starter. This was my second visit and I have to say it keeps getting better and better. You'll thank me

After a long time not visiting this great restaurant we met up with family and had a super fantastic meal. Curries outstanding, staff made you feel welcoming and very attentive. Definitely my number one curry house in Essex. Prices great, portion sizes ample, the staff kind and friendly , great tasting food. outstanding evening! We will definitely be back again!

This place is so underrated the food is so good

The food did not taste like Indian Cuisine. What has happened to the chef? We have eaten here in the past and the food has been good. We won’t be returning as it cost too much money.

Ordered a takeaway from Theydon Balti as have previously had some nice food from there, but this time it was not good. Ordered not a massive amount - enough for 2 adults and 2 small children and it came to over £60, much more than other local Indian takeaways. Wouldn't have minded so much if the food was great, but it wasn't. Chicken 'tikka' Bhuna was very watery, not the thick sauce you usually expect from a Bhuna dish, the taste was not good either - tasted more like something from a microwave meal than a balti house. Onion bhajis were rock hard and not fresh, same with samosas. Rice and breads were fine but these are the easy dishes. Overall a real let down. Won't be bothering again, and I think the fact the small restaurant was half empty on Saturday night speaks volumes. Not the place it used to be, which is a shame.

Perfectly adequate curry house, the food was nice, the atmosphere a little quiet, the service was OK, all in all it was a an OK meal out.

Came to this family run restaurant for our 25th wedding anniversary and had a fantastic meal and evening. Food was really tasty and a nice surprise was to see mulligatawny soup on the menu. Everything we ate was delicious and the owner and staff were very friendly and helpful. We will definitely return.

We have been abroad for 10 years and we finally managed a visit to our favourite Indian restaurant. What a treat we all enjoyed our food & was so lovely that they remembered us. Hopefully, we won't leave it so long next time. Great food, fantastic service. X

Thursday 30/3/23. 6.30pm......telephoned a booking at 5.45. Table for 2 for Me and daughter who wanted to try a different local curry restaurant. Our first ever visit and it will not be our last. Excellent attentive staff. Good choice and varied menu. Value for money. (check out the Menu on their Website) Clean toilets, carparking space at the back.

This place is amazing!! The friendliest staff and the best Indian we’ve had in ages. Mains are also less than £10. Could not recommend more!

Had take away … 1/10 Not very good. Vegetable curries were brown mush. Bombay potatoes were boiled in brown type of sauce. Def not Bombay potatoes! Cmon guys get some fresh ingredients in your food!!!

Excellent service with a very hard working boss and friendly, helpful staff. The food is sublime, you can really taste the spices used in the meal and it tastes fresh. A definite favorite for Indian cuisine. It's the only restaurant I would travel miles to get to if need be.

We used to come here regularly years ago, Husband decided to change. I returned recently and OMG why did i leave in the first place. Food superb, The flavour the freshness the meat so tender, staff friendly polite and accommodating. Can also cook particular food to your taste. Highly recommend.

Food is of good quality . Unfortunately, some of the waiters have 'attitude'. I found one of them quite surly and rude. Would not go back.

Always fantastic service and food..

After 8 months , I went again with my friends and family and wow , they have transformed the restaurant really nicely , the display and the settings both indoor and outdoor is stunning. The food is amazing as always. 100% recommend.

Went there by accident after a booking error by a friend. So glad we did, food and service were 1st class, staff super helpful and friendly. It was full but the Covid screens made it feel cozy and for a change we could all hear our conversations. It's not super trendy, but good food, atmosphere and very reasonable prices made this a really enjoyable evening.

First time visit tonight met the owner Atik made us feel like we was at home and provided quality service mentioned it was a bit slower than normal due to having a wedding of 400 to cater for but still kept up to standards, the flavours of the food was amazing and will definitely be returning, disappointed I did not know how good this place would be.

A lovely boutique traditional Indian family run restaurant. The drinks selection was good and the food was authentic and delicious. Also have ample car parking space and welcoming/helpful staff. Highly recommended.

Best Indian restaurant in Essex

The other Indian in TB was booked out, so we ended up here. By 9:00pm on Sat eve there were only us and one other table, and the waiters appeared to have gone home given the difficulty of attracting attention. The food was really pretty so-so. Prawn Puree was an unappetising grey colour and strain my buds as much as possible, I could barely ascertain any flavour at all. His chicken tikka massala was very muddy brown, but apparently tasted better than it looked. My lamb korai was properly spiced up as requested, but the meat was hardly melt in the mouth, and it didn't come sizzling. Bhindi was decent enough - not gloopy. Decor is like a time machine back to the 70s, especially the loos!

Atik and Khalid and ALL staff very hospitable. Food Brill. I had a takeaway Vindaloo with extras and was great.

Friendly and traditional, My wife and I decided to try a meal out following CV19 and from recommendations we chose the Theydon Balti House. Wow food was hot, fresh and not full of gee butter. Added to that the staff were so friendly and welcoming. I don’t often go out to a curry house as I prefer to cook mine from scratch but I will definitely be returning to this establishment. Warm welcome, friendly staff, excellent food and all very reasonably priced (even the drinks are sensible prices)

Food was decent but staff were very attentive and friendly. Gave us loads of mini chocolates and 3 ice creams. Not a big fan of Indian Food, but if you are you should definitely come.

it was busy so people must like it ---- our opinion -average curries , chicken shashlik not authentic -greasy poppadoms !!!!!! - been re-furbished since last visit and looks better-good friendly service-thought we would give it a try -but its back to indian ocean next time more expensive but worth it

Oh Dear, Theydon Tandoori how you fell from grace on 1 January 2020.And ruined our family meal. Always make a special journey to come here when the family gets together have done this for years. Food is good and customer service has in the past been excellent. The owner was not present on this occasion. Having booked a specific table for sentimental and health reasons, and checked on the phone not once but also confirmed 3 times the restaurant was open, and the table would be available at 7pm, we arrived 5 minutes to 7 to find people sitting at the table. And then the manager had the audacity (albeit with a smile) to say he had expected us at 6.30!!!! And there were now customers sat at that table. Although the restaurant was half empty and the Customers (who appeared to be regulars) had not ordered - we were asked to sit somewhere else. Such a disappointing evening, I was unable to eat any of the meal as our table was in a draft behind my head which due to a medical condition meant my face binding and headscarf could not be removed. Customers who make an effort to book and travel from outside the area should not be treated in such a distasteful manner. This rating reflects the food the rest of the family ate was good.

Another excellent meal here. The food here is always good. A good amount of choice on the menu. A nice atmosphere and a warm welcome. A great place for an evening out

Suggested we go to 2 friends. They really liked it. Excellent food and Cobra (no idea how they make it taste better than Cobra elsewhere), and very good service. 3 very happy customers and, handily, it's right by the tube station

Had a meal while travelling Epping area. Lamb tikaa was juicy and succulent. Chicken tikka dansak was mouthwatering with Garlic chilli Nan and special fried. Had chat with chef who has with this restaurant since opening in 1995. Will be back soon with mates
