Lovely atmosphere , piano music was lovely. food was really good especially the chicken curry , garlic naan , lamb chops and lamb samosas. Definitely going back!

I loved it, first time trying indian cuisine and i’m so glad I tried it here, the chicken biryani with the sauce was lovely, I recommend the lamb chops as well, they were grilled nicely and still juicy! There's a great atmosphere too, the owner was lovely and attentive and the staff were sweet, great service especially from sam!

The best experience at Indian Ocean Theydon Bois. The staff are incredible, on every visit the waiter Sam ensures to provide me and my friends with top quality personal service which always goes a long way. The food is fantastic and always hits the spot. The team is brilliant 10/10

Indian Ocean is my favourite Indian restaurant. The food is outstanding and the service is immaculate. Sam and his co workers are the most accommodating waiters. We love Indian Ocean!!

As a big fan of Indian food who has dined at many places, I found the restaurant and staff to be very welcoming. It’s clear that the team puts a lot of effort into building great relationships with customers, which was lovely. We were greeted warmly and well taken care of from the start. However, I found the food to be quite mild compared to other Indian restaurants I’ve visited. While the ingredients were fresh, the dishes lacked the level of spice I typically associate with Indian cuisine. I noticed that most of the clientele were English, so perhaps the recipes have been adjusted to suit milder tastes.

Everyone in Essex rated Indian Ocean- finally tried it with my whole family & love it!!!!! Thank you to Sam!!

Best curry in the area. We have recently moved nearby and have stumbled across this wonderful Indian. Always busy and even still welcoming. Your greeted with a hand shake and offered a drink straight away. The curry is delicious and you can even sit outside on a sunny day.

Well positioned restaurant in the heart of Theydon Bois on the edge of Epping forest . Really welcoming staff making you feel at home immediately. The food was definitely a cut above your usual Indian fare and more than worthy of 'award winning chef ' that so many Indian restaurants claim . Quite modern surroundings and a bit busy if you wanted a romantic table for two .

Very overrated, food wasn’t good. the restaurant was ridiculously loud. Was good years ago but We Wouldn’t go again. They Don’t take Amex as well, which is ridiculous nowadays.

Wonderful staff, very helpful to decide when ordering, happy to cater to our needs (spice levels and altering dishes to be vegan friendly). Couldn’t fault the food - very authentic, full of flavour. Great ambience too. A great experience overall.

We were 3 and had a good time for an Indian restaurant. However in my opinion the taste was nothing spectacular to the neighbouring indian restaurants. The vindaloo was not as spicy as it should be and the spiciest meal wasn't spicy at all. As said, we had better vindaloo in Loughton. The service was not as good as I read through the views as it took them quite a while to take our order even though our menus were closed and ready to order. At one point we asked for tap water and some reason we only had two glasses which we ended up to ask for our third party. These little moments adds up to your experience and unfortunately we do not feel like we would give another chance to them. Also a note, they only have one alcohol free beer and they have no options for low alcohol wines or sparkling.

We have been here twice in the last 10 days (04th October & 12th October) and on both occasions the food has been very good, service superb and a really warm and welcoming atmosphere from the moment you walk in the door. You will not be disappointed

I go there often, with chick. Sometimes with mates. Sometimes I do take out. Good food, tikka masala is brilliant! Always good staff, welcoming, busy on thu/fri/sat/sun. Recommend a visit. Well worth it.

Brilliant time in here earlier this evening. The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was great too. The dhakashawari is a must have dish, while an accompaniment of something spicier is recommend too, such as the Rajeshwari, which is what we had. Thank you very much, I highly recommend this place to anyone in Theydon or the nearby areas…amazing!

Arrived at the Indian Ocean for evening service whereby I was dining with former school friends, teachers, and their partners. As is always the case, the staff were hospitable, efficient, polite, and the service was exemplary. The food was of the highest quality, well presented and extremely tasty, which all added to a wonderful dining experience. When in Theydon Bois, I would recommend Indian Ocean as a must visit place to eat. Due to its popularity, it is advisable to book a table to be on the safe side.

Thanks, best indian takeaway ive had in years, drove 30 minutes for this after being disappointed so many times with indian food in the past round the essex area..This was on a different level, you’ll know what i mean when you try it! Also,forgot to ask for mint sauce which i was gutted about and when i got home there was free poppodoms, mint sauce and chutney! I almost cried! 😂 thanks again guys 10/10

We went here on the way back home from a long day at the farm. The restaurant itself was nice but the food was not great. All the food came with a lemon on top, bland and not authentic. I have never been to a Indian where the paneer is not paneer! My 2 year old niece spilt her milkshake and let alone replace it no one even asked if we wanted another one…. They cleared it up and left us to it. Would have been nice to have it replaced or at least asked if we wanted to order another. I think the food is not catered for Indians but seems to do well with non Indians.

This place is a must visit. Me and my friends come all the way from central london on our days off to eat here. The food is beyond incredible and we are satisfied every-time, the smell the flavour the taste just beyond amazing. The staff who are absolutely incredible, amazing service and will always assist you when you need it. We are in love with place it never misses, big shoutout to Sam Jack and Jamal who always make us feel welcome, we love you guys and we love your place, thank you so so much! Parking is also very easy, literally 30 seconds from the restaurant! <3

The dupiaza is the most delicious thing I have ever had. The service is incredible such kind and funny staff. We went for mothers day, there were 11 of us and the food ( would recommend the Bengal King Prawns) and service were excellent even though they were busy. Thankyou for your great friendly service.

Visited late evening after a trip into town to see a show. Got the tube back and rung for a table at Stratford. Accommodated our booking straight away. We arrived to a packed restaurant and were greeted as though we were familiar regulars. This was our first visit. We were seated immediately and very soon after the server came to take our drinks order, which arrived promptly. My husband who is partial to an Indian lager commented on how nice the draught lager tasted. We were given time to peruse the menu and were approached by a different but just as friendly server to take our food order shortly after. We ordered and ate our warm fresh Poppadums with chutney’s and pickles while we waited. They were the nicest, freshest Poppadums we’ve had. Our starters arrived quickly and were delicious. Hot, and tasty. Portion size was ample for a starter. We were very much enjoying our dining experience at this lovely Indian restaurant so far. Our main meal arrived and was absolutely delicious, it was the best Indian meal we have had in a restaurant by far and we’ve sampled a few. The ingredients were fresh, the taste was exquisite, the perfect amount of spice, seasoning and flavour. It was hot and plentiful. We were very happy customers. The staff were constantly busy in a clearly very popular busy restaurant, however they were attentive with drinks ordering, cleared empty plates/dishes swiftly, enquired about the quality of our food. Just in general amazing service. When our bill came we were pleasantly surprised with the cost and we’re expecting it to be higher. So all round the experience was fantastic, service was excellent. Staff were attentive, friendly and welcoming. Food was delicious, ingredients were fresh and of excellent quality, portion size was great and we were more than pleased with the cost. The restaurant decor is pleasant and modern, seats are very comfortable also. I would highly recommend this restaurant, we will definitely be visiting again and can see we will become regulars in the future. Thank you Indian Ocean for a fabulous end to a fantastic day out.

Excellent service from this establishment. We were ordering a takeaway meal for a group of friends who included a vegan/gluten free. They were very helpful in preparing dishes that met our dietary requirements. All diners really enjoyed their meals and the service at the restaurant on picking up could not have been more courteous and helpful. When one of the dishes from the order was wrong, they simply included the correct thing as well as the mistake, for no extra charge! Would highly recommend!!

The food was delicious and the service second to none. It was New Years Eve and very busy but the waiters were so obliging friendly and helpful. At 12 o’clock bottles of Prosecco were placed on everyone’s table at no extra cost and everyone got up to welcome the new year. They did not charge a New Years Eve price just their normal prices which weren’t overpriced. Would definitely recommend and would go there again.

Love it here, fabulous staff, warm welcome and food devine.

Came in here the weekend, food was nice and waiters were friendly. It just was a shame as we was seated my the door and with the cold snowy weather we was cold! Maybe next time they will keep the other door shut as there's 2 doors, but gave up asking waiters to shut it.

This place is totally customer obsessed, the service, food and care is at the highest level. My waiter Sam made an effort to know everyone at the table and provided outstanding service. Highly recommended to all friends and family

It is a very busy eaterie with friendly owners, parking within 5 minutes walk, tasty food and they will adjust ingredients to your requests, very busy on a Tuesday evening but no pressure to give table back, service and speed of receiving food after ordering excellent, we will be returning

We have eaten at this restaurant many times. Our recent visit was an early weekday evening. The place was very busy which is good, but the noise all around the restaurant was dreadful. People almost shouting across their tables to each other. As the noise grew people were having to shout. Had we not already been served, we would have left. Tip for the staff: when the clients are so noisy, you don't need to play music. It could only be heard at the toilets anyway. Food not quite up to usual standard.

Not sure if this place is hidden as such, but Samuel and his team made this a truly memorable evening. Jamal can be truly proud of such an engaged team. I had the Jalfresi Madras hot, and probably the best Jalfrezi I had ever. Keep up the good work. We will be back!

Another lovely meal and great service at the Indian Ocean last night. The staff are welcoming, friendly, funny, helpful , polite and the service is quick. The food was served hot, and tasty. The best Nann bread I've ever had, light and thin and gorgeous! The dips for the popudum s really nice. The Korma is beautiful! Chicken borini very nice. It was our Aunts first time trying Indian food and Sam the waiter was brilliant! he posed with her in the photo and the joking around made her day! Lastly my Sister noticed on the bill that it prints out roughly what the total works out per head! Genius! Would highly recommend.

What a brilliant Indian restaurant, have only been there twice as we live in Dovercourt (150 mile round trip). It is the best indian restaurant we have been to Sam who looked after us was superb.

I revisited Indian Ocean after such a wonderful dining experience a month ago. How does Sam (head waiter) do it is beyond belief. I tested him once again by leaving the food choice entirely up-to him after simply telling him what kind of meat I liked (chicken) how spicy. Not only did he come up with an exclusive meal for me it was once again totally delicious and faultless. The dish was perfect for my pallet and the meat was tender and cooked to perfection. The restaurants is spotless and faultless in my opinion. The staff are attentive BUT Not over the top or pushy in my opinion(do you want another drink every 5 minutes) etc. The food is the best Indian cuisine I have ever tasted in 30 years of visiting Indian restaurants. Lastly, thank you Sam for a memorable and unique dining experience. I will coming back this Monday with my good friend and a few buddies for his birthday. It’s a 35 minute drive from Chelmsford but worth every mile and I will probably pass 20 Indian restaurants just to get there but worth it I can assure you. Well done Sam and Indian Ocean

This is definitely my most favourite Indian restaurant! Been to many of them, especially in Essex, and have not found any to be better than Indian Ocean. Truly delicious food, especially for vegetarian/vegans! So many delicious vegetable dishes, many which are so called ‘dry’ (they’re not really dry at all just packed out with vegetables!). I much prefer this to vegetables floating in a sauce. This is why Indian Ocean is superior to most. I can not recommend highly enough, and would say that you will NOT be disappointed with your meal if you choose here! Lovely efficient friendly service too, in a cosy atmosphere. Can’t wait to go again!

Went in yesterday to celebrate my girlfriends new job. The staff are amazing. Get the door for you on entry. Show you to your seat promptly. they are friendly, polite and just know what they are doing. I was in with my family and they know how to be polite courteous and have a laugh with us. Been in with a group of lads and they just understand the lad banter and join in. The staff just know how to deal with different types of customer and are amazing. food was amazing and myself and my mum said we both felt really good after eating her. food was good and drinks were good. Atmosphere was good. Complimentary chocolate and drink before we leave as well. Once we were leaving all the staff signalled to each other to get the door and say goodbye. Very homely and nice feeling. 5 stars well deserved. If you want a place to go with mates or your family, or anything in between this is the place. Great staff and great food!

Went here for a close friends leaving Dinner, the guys are always amazing.. service was great the food was great and the company was good. The starters I had garlic mushrooms and this was lovely and the salad on the side was lovely. For my main I had the tandoori mixed grill this came piping hot a a sizzler plate was so delicious I had this with the garlic naan and that was beautiful. Dessert I had the mint ice cream and it was divine.. it’s a must visit. Everyone else had a variety of curries and rices it was all really good.

Too many tables no atmosphere, felt like I was on a table for 12 when actually a table for 2 so squashed in. Food good but get a takeaway as you are rushed and its just not good.
