The food , bread and cakes, that I have had on several occassions is very good. But its extremely expensive and more importantly the staff were/are so rude. I shall not be going again

Great traditional bakers with an amazing selection of savory filled rolls and sandwiches.. hot sausage rolls etc.... and an incredible choice of cakes...

The bakery is a longstanding place that I have used sporadically over the years for that much needed sustenance and fluids when in the locality. The staff are always polite and helpful, and the bakery is always stocked up with a full range of pastries and savouries to satisfy everyones taste buds.

The staff must have very unhappy lives - no customer service no smile and on the rude side. Ask for a roll to be made minus the huge amount of butter it was like I asked for something out of the ordinary. the reply I was given no we are not able to do that we have made up rolls you can have. loads of rolls on the shelf but was not prepared to make me a roll without butter. Where has all the customer service gone ! wouldn't last 2 minutes in a real job RUDE !

If there was an award for the most rude assistant in Essex... this place would win, hands down! I walked out feeling shocked at how rude the lady was, who served me. Then, on checking further online, it seems this is the norm and she is like it to everyone! I've never experienced such a miserable and unhelpful server. For a family run business, it's very odd.

The staff rolled their eyes when you asked for an item. They had no idea about allergens in any of their products. And their jam doughnuts have one bite of jam in, the rest of it is just dough. Very disappointed, will not go there again.

Stopped going there a couple of years ago, the woman serving could be any ruder!! Sandwiches under the lights were like toast on the side facing the lights,but told" it's the lights,what do you want me to do about it". It's amazing they have any customers at all.

This bakery is awful. I only went in for a loaf of bread and the staff were so rude. The bread wasn’t even that nice. Won’t be returning!! Much better bakers and kinder folk than this lot.

DISGUSTING! Never known customer service like it. So rude. We rang up trying to place a order of 10 sandwiches for our office. When we arrived she told us we 'had no hope in anyone answering the f*****g phone' and for me to 'hurry up' and tell her my order. She wouldn't stop rolling her eyes as we told her our order, because apparently making a sandwich is not part of the job role. After many huffs and puffs, we come to pay for our large order we asked for a bag. Which again was a problem she shouted THEYRE 10P, and proceeded to throw 3 plastic bags over the counter at us which landed on the floor. Whilst we packed our order in the bags, she was serving a lady behind us and threw her sandwich on the floor because she slammed it on the counter so violently. We have been getting our lunch from here for a long time, and the customer service has never been great however today has taken it to a new level. We understand everyone has bad days but the blonde lady who i believe is called Julie, should not project her anger and stress on to loyal customers or to anyone for that matter. We expect this to be communicated to your staff and no one deserves to be treated with disrespect.

All baked fresh every morning! Their bread rolls are amazing, the cakes are amazing and I cannot rate this place highly enough

Brought 4 roll in sealed see through plastic bag as luck would have it, we were going to have the rolls in the afternoon when my wife noticed inside the bag lot of little insects crawling around, if the bakers had been open I would have returned them, this was Saturday afternoon my advice don't go to this bakers it's filth and they are rude will not go there again ever.

The staff were so rude and unfriendly. One lady was talking down to an elderly man like he was nothing (because he got confused with his order). The lady who served me didn't give eye contact, smile, or try to be polite. I found this bakery really disappointing, they don't even sell sourdough, and the bakery itself looks so run down and dated. Considering how many lovely bakeries and sandwich shops there are in Epping and Loughton, i don't see why anyone would bother going to Theydon Bios Bakery shop.

I go to this bakery every Saturday. I have witnessed customers huffing and puffing because there is a queue. I have observed that some of these customers, once it’s their turn, transfer their huffing and puffing towards the staff. They now, having waited in the queue for not many minutes, decide to demand special attention from the already stretched staff. This results in more huffing and puffing from the ever growing new queue. Of course, these huffers and puffers are thankfully few. I for one, respect the ladies that work in this bakery, in my opinion they deserve a medal. Shame on the customers that have disrespected them. They should huff and puff their way to another bakery.

Unfortunately I can't give zero stars so one will have to do. Went in to buy a loaf of bread and was greeted with very unpleasant looks and eye rolling as I didn't immediately know which bread I wanted. Asked about said loaf which I wanted to buy and the witch rolled her eyes again. It's almost as if she works in a bakery. There's no need for such a rude attitude. I understand why, if I only knew how to make bread for a living i would be miserable everyday aswell :( not going back.

Nice products, bread and cakes, but WOW !! - the staff are without doubt THE most arrogant, rude and useless people I have ever been served by (and I'm being generous by saying this !!). They glare at you, snap at you and don't even answer you when you ask a perfectly reasonable question. As you can see from all the crap reviews this has been going on for years, so obviously the owner(s) don't give a sh1t about how this shop is run - great to know there's such arrogant, pathetic business people about ?. PS - the idiots that work there seem to perk up when a hunky builder walks in - so try and look like one if you want a cheery smile (but don't count on it 😉). The day someone else opens another bakery in this town will not come soon enough......and we can close down this place !!!.

We went here when travelling into London for football. Although the place was not particularly busy no-one acknowledged us as we entered. Another customer came in and asked if they had a toilet, one of them without even looking up and with utter contempt informed them they didn’t and was equally as dismissive when asked if they knew anywhere that did. At no point during serving us did they say a word to us, to the point we had to ask whose drink was whos when they were put on the counter. The final act was the woman, who had previously been rude to the toilet couple, decided to tell the other woman about a man who had just been in trying to crack jokes. She clearly wasn’t impressed with his jokes as she used the ‘F’ word right in front of us whilst describing him. This kind of leaves you thinking what are they saying about us when we’ve gone? Don’t think we’ll be going back here, I’ll wait until Stratford for my football morning coffee!!

Have given 2 stars purely based on the food which looks amazing and very generous portions for the money- but that's the only positive. I was just passing through and never been to this place before, just wanted a coffee. Lady behind counter made me feel unwelcome, I felt uncomfortable and self conscious. To be honest I was quite relieved reading these reviews that it wasn't just me !

I’m amazed to see that despite all the reviews saying how Rude and u friendly the staff are, going back years!!! nothing has changed! It’s quite unreal. And yesterday when I went in to get a loaf cut the woman who served me was wearing a white filthy black dirty rotton overall with muddy dirty shoes and no gloves are worn when handling all the uncovered items! Really poor show. Shame, as the display of cakes and bread are amazing, but after seeing that I won’t be buying lunch from there again if she’s that dirty visually how can her hands be clean!!!!! There’s no hello goodbye thank u! They look totally put out that you’ve asked to be served!

We went to the bakery this morning before heading into London. The Bagel shop had a queue so we opted to go to the bakery. The food looked delicious and we chose a bacon roll. There were no smiles from the staff even though we were being cheerful. I forgot to say no butter for one roll and realised just as the lady with really short hair was placing the bacon into the roll. She gave us a glare, removed the bacon and aggressively threw the roll into the bin. She hadn't made the other roll so could have still given us the one she threw and put the other buttered roll to the side for the next customer. My husband repeated that it was only one without butter and she grunted "I know!' With another glare. We were going to order coffees too but decided we would queue at the Bagel shop for them instead. Polite customer service makes all the difference and we will always go to the bagel shop in future. Maybe thats why they had a queue... others have had the experience of the bakery already!

I'm torn with this place, having been numerous times. On one hand, the food is very nice. The cakes are huge and delicious and the pastries are fresh and good value. However, nearly every time I've visited the staff have been incredibly unwelcoming, abrupt and rude. On my recent visit, two of them were having a profanity laced discussion about a colleague and ignored all of the waiting customers until they had finished. On being served, I asked for my cakes to be put in separate bags which was greeted with a sigh and eye roll - totally unnecessary for a simple request. I always make an effort to be extremely polite when I visit but the staff are so consistently abrasive that it's become a bit of a running joke between my friend and I to observe how badly customers are treated on our visits. The food is very good, so I'll continue to put up with the needless grumpy staff but the place would be so much better with people that don't look like they hate their jobs in the front of house.

Went in the shop dinner time , first time for me never again . Asked for a tuna roll and lady behind counter handle roll with no gloves or tongs then I got 2 other items . But found her very rude and blunt , as if she thought I wasn't good enough to be the shop .. never again

Have to say it's very disappointing the way you can be treated by the staff......they are up n down like tower bridge....1 day polite next day they growl at you as you walk in....sometimes you even have to repeat your order as they are so busy gossiping n talking between themselves to listen to the customer.....don't buy the jam doughnuts either....hardly no jam at all inside....1 star here is generous n for it to improve they need to take customer care more seriously

I’ve come here because it’s close to my work the staff are foul there rude, sarcastic disgusting people to be working in place where you think they would want you to come back! Muttering swearing under breath because I changed my mind what I wanted before she had even started to make it ! On top of this she’s then charged me 50p to use to card machines as it was under 5pound (fair enough if that’s there company policy I get that) but after I payed she then wanted to charge for bag knowing I didn’t have cash and I asked for one prior to this basically the women’s just a bored miserable old hag who gets off on being argumentative and Others misfortune (blonde old women) Not my first bad experience in there ether

I’m glad I’m not the only one who found the service rude and unprofessional. Had 2 pastries that were ok, but not enough to endure this treatment. Plenty of bakeries around. I’d suggest a kindness crush course ;)

Rude staff lady behind the counter was very unwelcoming I will not be recommending or visiting again. Terrible choice of pastries for a so called bakery!

On the window of the bakery is a prominent sign stating they accept electronic payment, its the only reason so I went and placed an order as I was aware I didn't have any cash. The older blonde shop assistant took my order then announced when I went pay with a card that they refused any electronic transaction under £5. Their attitude made it clear by serving anyone they were doing them an enormous favour. The ‘closed down’ attitude left no room for discussion.  They enthusiastically snatched  my order off the counter when they refused the transaction. This is usually a 5 star bakery with a great range available and friendly service. Perhaps they were having a bad day.

Came here for the first time the other day, the food was nice, but the staff were rude and uninterested. Sad really as it's a small bakery, the last thing you want is to feel uncomfortable when you're buying a sausage roll. It doesn't cost anything to smile 😊

Avoid this place! It doesn’t do Theydon Bois any credit. Needs local staff as those there are disgusting & not from the area. Went in about 4.15 to be told we are cleaning up. Every time I visit the bakery I get the same rude attitude. The staff need changing. I’ve owned my own bakery & never treated customers like that. Now decided never stepping foot in there again. Used to be better but it’s gone downhill.

The best crusty bread and cakes locally, however, the grumpiest rudest staff you could ever meet. Whilst I was standing outside waiting to go in they lost 3 customers who couldn't wait any longer. when you finally get in they are short and rude and couldn't care less and so slow. Will continue to go there because of the quality of their produce, but it is an unpleasant experience.

Terrible, just went in the bakery’s at Theydon, soon as I got through the frontdoor, Asian lady asked me do I know what I’m having ? No I do not I replied kept rushing me. Tottenham worst cake I’ve eaten all year ice on the cake was rock solid. Do not come here, wouldn’t recommend it .

Went in there today, female staff member really rude and shouty, didn’t quite hear her due to her wearing a mask and she shouted back really rudely I asked for tea and went I went back to my car I realised she had given me a very milky coffee. I have been to this bakery a good few times as the cakes are quite nice but every time the staff displayed a bad attitude. They are gloomy and disinterested in the customers. They cannot wait for you to leave, don't say thank you when taking payment and before they have even given you your change are saying "next" to the following person in the queue.I won't be going there again. At least at Tesco the staff are polite!

It is not often I receive such poor service. The staff were uninterested in taking my order and talking to other customers waiting, they also thought it was very poor. It is a wonder they are still in business.

Great service and brilliant food

I'm part of a group of cyclists and we've recently discovered this excellent cake and coffee stop. We've been to the Theydon Bakery a couple of times now and found the staff to be very cheerful and the variety of cakes excellent, and the tea and cofee very good. Others clearly agree as the queue goes out of the door!The premises is primarily a bakery selling goods to be taken off premises, but they do provide a couple of tables and chairs. We'll be back!

We have lived in the village for the last 3 years, and initially were quite excited about having the bakery next door. However, our excitement was quickly gone after being served a few times by unpleasant staff. I am not saying you need to wear a smile on your face all day long, but at least respond to a simple ‘good morning’ or a question asked.. On top of that you get better bread and pastry even from the Tesco behind the corner, so not really sure how they managed to survive on the market all these years. Not coming back there, ever.

The attitude of the staff at this bakery is atrocious. Rude, arrogant, and downright miserable.I waited 6 minutes to be served by the woman behind the counter, while she was conducting a conversayion with another woman about their social life. When I asked if I could be served, the look and service I received was abysmal.This place always was a bad experience, with a reputation to match.Enough is enough, I won't be going back. Ever.
