The food is amazing in this pub. The menu so much choice. Hard not to order the lot. The staff so friendly Petra especially. She is an asset to the place. Her friendliness and service 10/10. The pub has such a cosy vibe, welcoming. Give it try☺️

Been coming to this pub for many many years always been happy and always been possible to choose a kids/small roast on a Sunday. Lately: 13/10/2024 the manager on duty told us it is not possible and that if my 6 year old would like a roast we will have to order a adult portion at £20 for the plate. He was hiding behind the fact that it was a Company policy and that there was absolutely nothing he can do,his hands are tied. This is utter nonsense! I personally worked this industry for years and it is possible. We come here for a family meal we would all like to enjoy a roast! Well we could not unless we were willing to pay £20 for a 6 year old child. Will not be back and will also spread the word about this! Kids are not inclusive in having a roast at this pub. If I wanted to serve my child the options on their child menu. O would have taken them to McDonalds.

Not as good now... Sunday lunch, told we only had 2 hours till the table is needed, roast shoulder of lamb, served shredded on top of two day old shrivelled leaks and token bits of broccoli, cold roast potatoes, all in all very poor, the gravy was the only saving grace, cream brulee was very good, previously we have always been really impressed with the food here, not now I am afraid.

We came here for Sunday lunch after a very nice walk in Epping forest. There were a lot of free spaces both inside and outside. The food is good but the portions a little small for the prices. The halloumi fries were literally 6 pieces. If you want to sit outside, there is no table service so you need to go inside to order. The forest fruit bun could be improved as the taste seems very artificial. The veggie Sunday roast, waffle and cherry cake were very good. There is a big parking outside.

This pub has a lovely atmosphere and attentive service. I had a roast chicken Sunday lunch with all the trimmings. The food was served quickly which impacted the quality of the meal. The plates were cold and the roast potato skins were very tough and the inside barely warm. They actually tasted more like a cross with a baked potato. The veg was flavoursome although not particularly warm. The roast could have benefited from more gravy. However the chicken was succulent, tasty and fell off the bone.

Sub-par food experience. A but appalled at reading other reviews. We were a group of 4 on a Sat, visiting after Epping walk. We enjoyed the cocktails but got served really bland chips, and poor quality wagyu. The charcuterie was a joke and the tart was inedible. It’s a shame that no one would care to rectify it and we will have to love with this horrid taste.

I can't believe I had such sensational food at a chain pub. I had the catch of the day (trout) with boiled new potatoes, kale, and lobster bisque. It may have been the most perfectly-cooked piece of fish I have ever had. The bisque was beautiful, the veg delicious - and I don't even like kale. And, so rare, everything was seasoned to perfection. I can also highly recommend the sourdough with chicken skin crackling butter sharer, which comes with the most chickeny chicken jus. My friends all loved their dishes too. The best pub lunch ever. Oh, and we had an excellent bottle of Picpoul to accompany. (Please note total spend includes drinks). The only negative was that we were brought a glass of wine and a side dish we hadn't ordered, which was not exactly a huge problem. The wait staff couldn't have been lovelier

I hadn't been back to this part of Essex for some time, but found myself looking for a late lunch on a wet Thursday in February. Having fond memories of this pub, I stopped by on the off chance that lunch was being served. To my delight, it was. The dining room was sadly empty, but what was lacking in atmosphere was more than balanced by the excellent food. I ordered from the specials: Calves and mash. It was delicious! The Queen Vic is under new ownership and I can’t say its for the better. Its undergone a refurb but as far as I can see its just a repaint and furniture update, even though there was nothing wrong with the old furniture. They now have live music which many will welcome, however, the music was blaring into the restaurant and that doesn’t make for a nice get together with friends for a chat. Also from where I was sitting, rotating disco lights were glaring into my face. Decide whether you want to be a country pub with restaurant or a live music venue. Spoilt my Mother’s Day meal with my family. The food wasn’t great either!

We eat here regularly but the food has definitely gone downhill lately. Sunday roast had rubbery chicken skin, not nice and crispy as you would expect. Yorkshires were dry and almost shattered when you tried to cut them and only one small piece of broccoli. We like this pub but had a mixed experience when we went for Sunday lunch today. Three of us had ordered the winter caeser salad which said it came with kale, Baby spinach, roasted butternut squash, red onion, puy lentils, sourdough croutons and Caesar dressing, for £13. I added halloumi for an extra £3. The added halloumi was fine but the base salads were very small when they came up, and there were about 4 small (less than 1cm cubed) pieces of butternut squash on each. We queried with our waitress to see is this as it should be. She took one of our plates away and went to check with the chef and came back to say yes they were as they should be. She did then say she would give us an extra salad on the house to share between us, which meant we didn’t leave feeling too aggrieved, but it did make me think don’t ever order a salad there again as they seem to think a measley portion of leaves and vegetables and lentils is fine for £13! Tasty but avoid. Good service though from our waitress who didn’t then dodge us for the rest of the meal but instead came back to check on us and make sure everything was ok.

Have used many times for food but has sadly gone greatly downhill. We did wonder why it was so empty and once our food was served we understood. Tiny portions - a meal of cod with a piece of cod that was approx 2 - 3 inches long with less width and depth. A side salad of beans - 4 beans. I could go on. We spoke with the manager who gave us money off of the bill, but it was still grossly disappointing. Even the staff who served us agreed on the poor portion size. We don’t live locally and we had come to visit someone who does. I wouldn’t recommend this venue under any circumstances- especially if you’re hungry. Shame as the staff and setting are nice but the menu and portion size (and prices) totally let it down. Embarrassed for the brand.

Popped in to have dinner ,have eaten here in the past and always had lovely meals..tonight the food was dreadful..husband chose from the specials menu Roast chicken....which presented looking pale and unappetizing with a few hard roast potatoes and a few spoonfuls of broccoli... I had chosen a green salad with avocado and seeds and grilled halloumi..the salad came with a small piece of avocado less than a spoonful and no seeds just some floppy green leaves with dressing on..I asked the waitress who was lovely where the avocado and seeds were..she said they cant get seeds from supplier and brought me back some thin slivers of avocado which was turning grey....so unappetizing..i just left it...my husband ate his because he was hungry and couldn't be bothered to drive elsewhere..I did complain to waitress about the food and she said her manager said we could have a free desert or a drink on the house..no sign of the manager..to explain why we were served such poor quality food...we declined the offer of deserts and a free drink as we had no appetite...they did take the price of one drink off the bill... The waitress was absolutely lovely and professional.. ..and we tipped because of the service..but seriously the food was atrocious and we were surprised as previously when we have eaten here..it has been top class.

I had the lamb meal which was more suited as a starter, no potato or bread. The waffle dessert I could have made at home in 20 seconds. My husband and his friend love real ale which is supposed to be kept at room temperature, in the Queen Victoria it was cold. The ice cream dessert was also the tiniest I have ever seen. Have just visited this pub with my 12 year old daughter who recently broken her leg and was meeting some friends from her stable who were seeing her for the first time since her accident. I found the staff to be rude, unhelpful and every single one ignored you when you were standing at the bar waiting to be served or even pay. The staff including the manager Dan were incapable of answering the simplest of questions like Where are our desserts? or Why is everyone else receiving their food before us? Having waited nearly 2 hours for our desserts we requested a refund and left. I had been warned about the attitude of some sraff towards certain people and unfortunately this visit seemed to confirm what I'd been told.

Absolutely fantastic Sunday lunch. Very reasonably priced, obviously high quality ingredients. Great dessert menu too. Highly recommended

A group of us retired Corporate Bankers..all retired, meet every few months for a moan about the state of the country, or anything that takes our fancy at the time..always light heartedly! only two of us made it this time, but we wiil be back..for this is a traditional cozt pub..with excellnt menu and atmosphere: Prces..don't know how they do it and the portions! I had toasted brie on a salad bed..my friend, who lives in Waltham Cross and uses this pub for dining and had recommended, had a ginormous prawn cocktail..both excellent. Shouldnt have had the starter as he suggested the speciality..steak and kidney pie..cooked as it should of old, in a pie dish..enough meat and gravy for two pies, with a lovely flaky pastry top..chips and peas..delicious. I had ice cream fo a sweet, ..2 pints of lager and two glasses of lemonade as wr werr both driving..Top Knotch..Definately come again with friends..Many thanks

A comfortable branch with plenty of seating, many near with mains sockets. A good place to relax before a walk in Epping Forest.
