Delicious, hearty, and beautifully presented! The roast was tender with rich gravy, crispy Yorkshire pudding, and perfect roast potatoes. The sides—pigs in blankets, creamy cauliflower cheese, and flavorful small plates—were just as impressive. A must-visit for a satisfying Sunday feast!

Went with 5 friends for lunch. They sat us at their round table which was excellent. It enabled us all to communicate with each other comfortably. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, especially Petra who served us at the table. She remembered us from previous visits which made us feel a bit special. She is very friendly and helpful. The meal was excellent, and we all thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon.

Wonderful late lunch / early dinner for 5 of us today, served by the very delightful Petra. The wagyu steak was tender, tasty and very filling. My wife had the forager pie which was very fresh. Kudos the chefs and staff here, it's a wonderful environment and I can't wait to come back. My only minor critism is the prawn cocktail with "Bloody Mary" sauce was lacking Tabasco/spice. But that's very minor and overall 9.9/10. Wonderful pint, great service and great food. Time for a nap - absolutely stuffed!!!

Stood at the bar waiting for a beer. A “server” was bent down at the fridge, refilling the fridge. I asked for service and he said he’ll be with us after he’s loaded bottles in a fridge. Apparently, the customer has to wait and watch him fill a fridge BEFORE he serves us! How rude! I’ll swerve that place next time!

Had lunch there after my friend braved the rain with me to honour a tradition of walk in the woods on Jan 1st. The pub itself is lovely, with a cosy bar area and fire, lots of pretty features and nice staff. The food was delicious too and I like the option of coffee (or cocktail) with a mini portion of desert. It was a great place to have a cosy start of the year. Happy 2025!

I had heard a from a friend that the experience wasn’t as good for her as they didn’t have everything on the menu, and was a bit chaotic, But was pleased as we entered the restaurant as the server, Petra, welcomed us, and the first thing she said was “we have everything on the menu today”. It’s important to customers to know this beforehand, I think. It was quiet being a Saturday lunch time, but the food we ordered was really hot and well cooked. The oyster mushroom starter was light and delicious. We had the foragers pie which was piping hot. It was nice to see something other than just a vegan burger ( although there is one on the menu) which meets our dietary requirements. Personally I would always encourage restaurants to be a bit more creative for plant based alternatives, as the usual menu you find in most places is quite discouraging when dining out. But this was nice. I would like to say Petra was great at her job, very attentive and polite. Couldn’t fault the rest of the staff either. Well done.

Been coming to this pub for many many years always been happy and always been possible to choose a kids/small roast on a Sunday. Lately: 13/10/2024 the manager on duty told us it is not possible and that if my 6 year old would like a roast we will have to order a adult portion at £20 for the plate. He was hiding behind the fact that it was a Company policy and that there was absolutely nothing he can do,his hands are tied. This is utter nonsense! I personally worked this industry for years and it is possible. We come here for a family meal we would all like to enjoy a roast! Well we could not unless we were willing to pay £20 for a 6 year old child. Will not be back and will also spread the word about this! Kids are not inclusive in having a roast at this pub. If I wanted to serve my child the options on their child menu. O would have taken them to McDonalds.

Not as good now... Sunday lunch, told we only had 2 hours till the table is needed, roast shoulder of lamb, served shredded on top of two day old shrivelled leaks and token bits of broccoli, cold roast potatoes, all in all very poor, the gravy was the only saving grace, cream brulee was very good, previously we have always been really impressed with the food here, not now I am afraid.

We came here for Sunday lunch after a very nice walk in Epping forest. There were a lot of free spaces both inside and outside. The food is good but the portions a little small for the prices. The halloumi fries were literally 6 pieces. If you want to sit outside, there is no table service so you need to go inside to order. The forest fruit bun could be improved as the taste seems very artificial. The veggie Sunday roast, waffle and cherry cake were very good. There is a big parking outside.

This pub has a lovely atmosphere and attentive service. I had a roast chicken Sunday lunch with all the trimmings. The food was served quickly which impacted the quality of the meal. The plates were cold and the roast potato skins were very tough and the inside barely warm. They actually tasted more like a cross with a baked potato. The veg was flavoursome although not particularly warm. The roast could have benefited from more gravy. However the chicken was succulent, tasty and fell off the bone.

Sub-par food experience. A but appalled at reading other reviews. We were a group of 4 on a Sat, visiting after Epping walk. We enjoyed the cocktails but got served really bland chips, and poor quality wagyu. The charcuterie was a joke and the tart was inedible. It’s a shame that no one would care to rectify it and we will have to love with this horrid taste.

I can't believe I had such sensational food at a chain pub. I had the catch of the day (trout) with boiled new potatoes, kale, and lobster bisque. It may have been the most perfectly-cooked piece of fish I have ever had. The bisque was beautiful, the veg delicious - and I don't even like kale. And, so rare, everything was seasoned to perfection. I can also highly recommend the sourdough with chicken skin crackling butter sharer, which comes with the most chickeny chicken jus. My friends all loved their dishes too. The best pub lunch ever. Oh, and we had an excellent bottle of Picpoul to accompany. (Please note total spend includes drinks). The only negative was that we were brought a glass of wine and a side dish we hadn't ordered, which was not exactly a huge problem. The wait staff couldn't have been lovelier

I hadn't been back to this part of Essex for some time, but found myself looking for a late lunch on a wet Thursday in February. Having fond memories of this pub, I stopped by on the off chance that lunch was being served. To my delight, it was. The dining room was sadly empty, but what was lacking in atmosphere was more than balanced by the excellent food. I ordered from the specials: Calves and mash. It was delicious! Service was very good too.

The Queen Vic is under new ownership and I can’t say its for the better. Its undergone a refurb but as far as I can see its just a repaint and furniture update, even though there was nothing wrong with the old furniture. They now have live music which many will welcome, however, the music was blaring into the restaurant and that doesn’t make for a nice get together with friends for a chat. Also from where I was sitting, rotating disco lights were glaring into my face. Decide whether you want to be a country pub with restaurant or a live music venue. Spoilt my Mother’s Day meal with my family. The food wasn’t great either!

We eat here regularly but the food has definitely gone downhill lately. Sunday roast had rubbery chicken skin, not nice and crispy as you would expect. Yorkshires were dry and almost shattered when you tried to cut them and only one small piece of broccoli. That's our favourite local pub where we are going out most of the time during sunny days. The reason is that they have one of the best bear gardens around. You also have the bar in the garden, which opens every Friday and Saturday with the best views around the beautiful countryside where you can see the horses and even local rabbits.

Just had a very distressed elderly neighbour come round - went to a wake at the Kings Head, didn’t realise he needed to enter his car reg in a machine in the pub and has received a fine. The fine has taken three weeks to arrive and he’s only just within the timeframe to avoid it escalating to £100. Automated payment system moves rapidly through the instructions for payment and is impossible for someone who is hard of hearing to navigate. In better times maybe the staff at the pub knowing that they were hosting a sad event for older people who were likely to be distressed would have taken the time to ensure they understood what to do if they were using the car park sadly that sort of compassion is long gone! Tried ringing the pub but no-one answered - spoke to someone later who told me they were busy with another wake and would have cancelled the ticket but as the gentleman had paid it it was out of their hands. Stressed that it was the customers responsibility to read the notices scattered around the pub and comply with their instructions. No information about parking on their website.
