Plough in Epping Forest

Visited this place with a gardening group for a festive meal in January. The food was lovely and the service very good. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Would recommend.

Christmas Day ruined because of the awful experience at this place. We booked our Xmas dinner here over a month ago. Paid in full in and made our course choices all in advance. Arrived for the second sitting at 2pm. The place was heaving with lots of people at the bar. It took 15 minutes before we were able to place our drinks order and after a further 15 minutes, my niece, who could see our drinks order waiting on the bar, fetched them herself! Despite the five of us all ordering the same (cold) starter, it was another 30 minutes (I hour in total since we’d arrived) before our starter came. A simple avocado prawn cocktail, just fine. We then had to sit for a further hour and five minutes (despite several requests for info on the whereabouts) for our main course. At this point my sister was so upset at the dreadful service, that she could no longer eat and asked for her dinner to be boxed up to go. They don’t do that apparently so her meal was wrapped in foil. I had ordered the turkey roast dinner. Unfortunately the meat was dry, the roast potatoes had clearly been ‘kept warm’ for some time and were hard and chewy, the veg was overcooked and there no Yorkshire puddings. It was pretty dismal. To add insult to injury, we then had to wait another 50 minutes for desserts. Two other customers walked out without their dinner because of the ridiculously long wait. A waitress had approached them with a card machine asking if they wanted to pay their bill, and they hadn’t even had their meal!! We were given several excuses as to the wait, including ‘only one person in the kitchen!’ ‘ the kitchen is behind schedule’ and ‘we don’t have enough waiting staff’ it was abysmal! We had paid £62.50 a head for this meal and I wouldn’t have paid £10 for it!! When we asked for possible compensation we were told we didn’t have to pay for drinks! 3 glasses of Prosecco, a beer, 2 soft drinks and a tonic water and lime!! Hardly a grand gesture!! This place does a Sunday roast every week so it’s not like they don’t know how to do it!! Absolutely disgusted and will not be recommending them to anyone. Never eating there again!

The service was quick and the staff friendly. The food was better than expected. I was highly satisfied with the outcome thank you too Zara, Jamie and Tom.

Had a family festive gathering and the food was fantastic and service (thank you Archie) was also speedy and welcoming. Would definitely recommend to others and was very reasonably priced too.

As much as I like this chain of pubs, this is the first time I've been disappointed. The Christmas menu is not impressive. The pumpkin soup does not taste like pumpkin soup. And the dessert? Well, that's a joke, I'd be ashamed to serve someone such a thin piece of cake. Fish, prawn cocktail, too much vinegar. The burger was overcooked and very dry. The only thing that was good was the turkey and ham pie. I don't know what happened to you in this pub? This chain always has delicious food, but here it's such a disappointment. One star for the pie and another for the service.

The food was not nice at all, the service was very slow. We arrived at 6,15 and ordered by 6,30 ish never got our main meals till around 8pm which was annoying considering we had 3 children under 7 yrs old. And a bill of £160,definitely will never return.

Well where do I begin . Went out with friends for a pre Xmas get together. When we booked was told our table would be at the front . On arrival we were placed next to the men’s toilets . We asked to moved but nothing . Starters were ok . The mains arrived the pie was good. The roast was cold the sea bass was good but the veggies were disappointing and cold and soggy . We tried to get the attention of our waiter but he was so busy running around . We were left . One person had a cheese board this arrived with melted Brie . We tried to get some attention nothing . We asked if we could order a second dessert was told no it’s pre ordered only well table next to us weren’t pre orders . Then the singer omg !! We moved tables to bee sitting next to the door staff over stretched not friendly not made to feel welcome at all .

Lunchtime food mainly very good but fish and chips was primarily batter and chips. Warm, pleasant surroundings. But please turn the music down...

Very poor quality of food for the Sunday carvery. The lamb was pressed lamb which should have been explained by the server when ordering. The food was cold and there were very few side dishes left. The cauliflower cheese was watery and the gravy station was a mess. Despite the four meals not being eaten, only one was taken off the bill having spoken to staff three times!to complain. Definitely not somewhere we will be returning to.

I found the staff to be rude, unhelpful and every single one ignored you when you were standing at the bar waiting to be served or even pay. The staff including the manager Dan were incapable of answering the simplest of questions like Where are our desserts? or Why is everyone else receiving their food before us? Having waited nearly 2 hours for our desserts we requested a refund and left. I had been warned about the attitude of some sraff towards certain people and unfortunately this visit seemed to confirm what I'd been told.

Lovely Lunch today here. A group of 14 ladies thoroughly enjoyed their food and we were very well looked after. Everyone wants to return soon. The staff were very helpful. The service was quick and the food was delicious with a great selection. Thank you. Cathy x

It was a wonderful experience. Thank you. The only issue was the hardness of the Yorkshire Pudding. Couldn't cut into it. 9/10. The Lasagne and ciabatta, and mini side salad are the best in the area. 10/10.

Very disappointed with the carvery. There were 4 of us and we couldn't even cut the beef very grissly the roast potatoes were hard. The knives that were used to cut the meat need sharpening. Won't be going there again

Natalie always looks after us very well. She goes over and above. We always have a great time ,weather we are eating or doing the quiz

Been coming here for years for snacks, pints & meals and it's always decent. They change the menu every 3 months roughly. On our recent visit the food was tasty, clean, crispy - no complaints. Table service was helpful. Will continue to return

Been to the pub last night had a really bad experience the guy at the bar was really racist he was acting like he never saw us standing behind him waiting to be served and when I said hello he started giving me Attitude and faces I felt really uncomfortable with my Fiance and I would be taking this matter further

Was on a night away from home attending an event at the nearby Scouting HQ, and had been allocated accommodation for the night in the Premier Inn a short walk away. As the hotel doesn't do evening meals I needed somewhere to eat and decided to try The Plough...... A good choice, as the menu was reasonable and the food served was excellent. Just what was needed after a long day's travelling. I was with a colleague and our food came quickly and was very enjoyable.

I never felt more intimidated in my life. Walked in to the pub never here before and refused to serve me for no reason in front of other customers I believe they are very racist against Irish people and I will be handing a video to a solicitor and posting a video on here. Racist update . I have just emailed you Dan. It’s now 4 days since I emailed dan as his reply was to email him and no response ? Still waiting

Only two servers on, and they were rushed off their feet. Music was very loud for a reasonably quiet lunchtime. Asked if it could be turned down but was told they were not allowed to. We were there to meet friends and I found it very difficult to hear over the music. Shame as we like the food and have been many times before but would think twice about going again.

Great place to site and have a drink. Staff was friendly and helpful. Food however wasn't all that great. Mediocre at best.

Regular go to Pub for family meal/catch ups. V good carvery. Large selection from A la carte menu. Good selection of drinks. Shame the lovely hanging baskets had not had enough attention 😕 e.g dying plants, and others needing " dead heading" .

Friendly staff, good food and excellent value for money. The kids meals were very good portion sized. Special shout out to Rob who served us, two sets of parents and four hungry kids! Rob was polite, courteous and made us all feel very welcomed at the pub. Even dashed out to our car when we forgot a birthday card. Highly recommend. Thank you Rob and the rest of the staff for taking care of all of us.

A good pub to visit, we'll located for a peaceful leisurely pint and a bit of grub. Dog friendly and great little play area for the young kids in the garden. Not too shabby in my humble opinion

Visited on Saturday afternoon with my wife and mum. Pleasantly welcomed by a member of staff at the bar. I wasn't sure which IPA to get and was offered a try of the two that they have which was really nice of them. Didn't try the food but menu looked really nice and reasonably priced

When a customer is waiting at the bar to purchase a drink/food and the staff continue cleaning tables and walking past you without saying a word......what can you say.

Popped to this venue as a family of 3 with two dogs for a bite to eat. Lovely indoor and outdoor seating areas. Plenty of parking and great value. 2 Sunday roast carvery, Bacon & Cheese burger with added Halloumi fries, a bottle of Desperado and a pint of Stella. Just under £50.00.

Staff is always friendly. Can’t believe how expensive that typical microwaveable/deep fried food is. Like I asked for wings and got 5 wings… for £6+ and then ordered onion rings and got two… ordered fries and it was just fries with no seasoning… all in all £13 like that’s the last time I buy food at the pub. Someone needs to regulate portions to match the prices. Felt robbed entirely.

Food was very hit and miss. Some was ok but others were very disappointing, especially the hunters chicken and one of the steaks ordered. Will think again about eating here.

This is a good "pub that serves food" ( especially for a midweek treat)! A good ambience, efficient and polite staff and good food. (An added bonus is good and plentiful parking.) Prices are on par with other establishments of its kind in the area: not cheap but not too expensive.

Me and my daughter was racially assaulted by member of the staff and manager when I made a complaint about member of the staff to manger manage asked me to leave instead sort out the issue

One of the waiter at the bar is very rude and he is always rude. Not just one time, always. Thats sad.

Visited with family and was unimpressed with the stroppy attitude of the staff Screwing their faces at us and being made to feel very unwelcome. My hubby is deaf and misheard one of the bar staff over drinks, her attitude was unnecessary. The food is not great, other pubs in the area are much better I was made to go here but would not be back no matter who’s birthday it is It’s seems some of our party were treated better as they are regulars.

We been waiting for drinks 45 mints and when we ask our drink one off staff he starting we need to wait .. no good to customers service…All glass on the tables really dirty..

After waiting about 10 minutes at the bar to be served I've been told by the lady that she wouldn't make 2 cocktails I've ordered because there is 5 more people waiting behind me and cocktails take too long to make. Unbelievable

Had the carvery the only ok thing was the meat ,the potatoes were cut to big and not cook enough the parsnips where to cut to big and had a nasty taste the cauliflower cheese was more like just cauliflower then buttery leak was too watery and the service was none existsant was waiting around ages to pay the bill wouldn't recommend the carvery at all

Great food at reasonable prices

Well for a pub it was lively enough for a Sunday afternoon considering the current economic climate. The beer was cold enough but took nearly 20 minutes for the waitress to prompt the bar staff to pour it. The food took a reasonable time to arrive from ordering, going for a traditional pub burger it was a disappointment as it was devoured within 4 bites and the portion of chips was less than a medium sized portion, price has gone up but the portions shrunk on size. In all it was a pub lunch that wasn't nothing to sing about till later on that evening when my arse was sing all night due to the meal leaving me gassy

Enjoyable experience, nice atmosphere, friendly staff and great food and good range of drinks / beers on tap. No need to book ahead, can turn up and be seated. Pub is dog/animal friendly and as a result saw quite a few dogs happily inside! They have a normal menu and also a specials menu which we ordered from. Having been a few times now the portion size sometimes differs (possibly a different chef :) ). Also seemed to not have quite a few different things on the menu when we went to order so double check to avoid disappointment! Saw they do hosting for large groups too for anyone looking for larger group bookings. All in all would recommend!

Went for Pie Week with family and we all had a pie. All agreed it was very good and cooked nicely. Friendly staff and reasonably priced.

I'f you have a dog,do not go to this pub.... it is meant to be dog friendly I was just totally humiliated in front of everyone because my dog took a wee. I cleaned it up and the whatever behind the bar was disgusting and rude and made it clear that my dog was not welcome

The staff are lovely, the food is delicious and they usually have the rugby on which is fab. We always stop by on the way back to Enfield when we take the bike out and today have come out just to come here ☺️☺️

Went there for new year eve with my family we booked venue the festival dinner was under cooked vegetables the meal was up standard for a new year's meal the manger after complaining about the meal gave has a discount no charge for the drinks we had to pay for the meal was expensive very poor we left after out meal didn't stay out the new year we went home celebrated at home

First time ever going out for lunch on Christmas Day. Plough you didn't disappoint. Warm, friendly atmosphere, excellent food and service. Relaxed atmosphere and no real rush. We booked late which meant we had to eat at 12.30 which was too early for us but as we took a cancellation we didn't have a choice. You've convinced us to eat out next Christmas but we'll be sure we book earlier.

Booked a early Christmas Dinner for today 2nd December. Best pub Christmas Dinner I've had over the years in different pubs. Starters and dessert were also good. Staff are friendly and helpful. Would highly recommended

Went in for Sunday lunch burgers were good ceasar salad lettuce wasn't fresh not enough dressing had to ask for more which took ages to come. Deserts were ok bit enough ice-cream in the raspberry sundae

Bad experience upon turning up and asking for a table for 2 the young lad mentioned 1 hour 20mins? So we left A bit confusing when we walked back through the car park it was half empty so I phoned up and asked them how long for a table for 2 whereby he mentioned straight away? What he meant was we was only allowed the table for 1 hour 20mins Very bad communication & not very clear, we have never walked into a pub then been told about how long we can stay for? Especially as we only wanted a quick lunch Baffling experience especially as we told him we cannot wait for a table for over 1 hour then we walked out, he heard clearly what we said with no response If you cannot communicate clearly this is not the job for you

Really nice spacious friendly pub with a lot of outdoor dining and drinking space. We went in for the Sunday carvery, we didn't realise it was a carvery so it was a welcome surprise We were welcomed in by one of the servers, Amber. Great smiley welcome, she was attentive and friendly and seated us without a booking. The carvery was great, definitely no room for dessert, which was a shame because the dessert menu was tempting. It was just over £30 for 2 roasts and 2 pints of soft drinks, Bargain we thought. If we are in the area again we will definitely come back. It's just 5 mins from the forest but much less packed than the forest pubs and free plentiful parking too

went there Today with a friend for the Sunday carvery. was the worse lunch i had in my life ! my friend who is a oap couldn’t eat it. the potato’s was overcooked and hard could break your teeth with them very hard to cut with knife . the meat was the same . to be honest didn’t tell the staff at the time of the meal as my friend didn’t want to complain. bit as the meal was so bad i told the member of staff at the end and bless him he did decide not to changed as for one of the meals .

Nice welcoming staff with a good atmosphere. The best chicken burger ive had in a while.. I would like to try something else on the menu . Dated decor could do with a lil spruce up. But I would definitely return here.

Pleasant enough large chain pub, formulaic and adequate food and pretty standard decor and ambience

Just up Sewardstone Road next to the Premier Inn. It's a large Inn with plenty of parking and outside area. Popular with group parties. I have visited the Plough many times for parties and events. The food is consistent, and the price is reasonable. The staff are friendly and helpful. It's not what you might call a local but more of an event place. It can get a little rowdy when there and a number of groups celebrating. The decor is starting to look a little tired. Overall, it's fairly decent.
