A beautiful building housing the Buxton gin festival this weekend. The acoustics were not so good but did not detract from the beauty of the Devonshire Dome

We only were there for one night, the room was well equipped and comfortable, with tea making facilities, and a nice view, easy parking and pleasant staff. The real surprise was the food, evening meal was well priced, superbly cooked, and served by attentive friendly staff. But the real treat was the breakfast, great selection, fresh ingredients and served nice and hot. Also my wifes Gluten Free requirements were well catered for. Possibly the best hotel breakfast we have been served in the UK

Nine of us went for a St Patrick’s day lunch except there wasn’t a nod to Ireland on the menu. It was £12.50 per head with a choice of 3 starters, 3 mains and 3 puddings. We we’re expecting something exceptional for the price at a college which is charging more than restaurants in town. The leek and potato soup was good and nicely presented with a swirl of cream through the green soup. To follow the roast lamb was supposed to be leg but there was too much gristle and fat, more like shoulder but the student waitress insisted it was leg! The accompanying veg was just about okay, the long stemmed broccoli was almost but not going yellow. The desserts were a choice between lemon tart, tiramisu or panecotta which were quite good but nothing to drool over.

My custom was turned away. Could not get a coffee from main restaurant as they were short staffed and couldn’t provide table service……I didn’t want table service, just a cup of coffee to take upstairs. Never had a problem before, me and my husband come here most weeks and have drinks and I am quite appalled at the treatment I received today! Sort yourselves out and treat your regulars better and while I am writing this, the noise levels and cleanliness is much to be desired!

I and my husband went for dinner .Restaurant section was empty . When I order my drink sprite waitress asked me pint or half and I realised that is not in the bottle so I wanted to change bottle of diet coke. After that strangely she was questioning that why I wanted bottle not the other option . Anyway then we ordered 2 starters , 2 mains and 1 puding. As a starter we both ordered the soup and it was ok. And the main course I had the fish which is disappointing. It was too tough , just boiled fish not even seasoned . It comes with raw onion ,some black olives, 1 bigh dried tomato and 1 egg. And again chef didn’t even put a pinch of salt in it. I finished the fish because I was so hungry and I didn’t want to waste it. Never come back again .

Buxton has an abundance of pubs and restaurants. We choose this pub as it looked nice and cosy with a lovely fire burning. We were warmly greeted by all the staff. The pub was very old and well looked after. The bar being a very good feature. They do senior specials 2 courses for £6.99. We opted for two meals £15.99 of hunters chicken which was delicious. I would definitely recommend this pub
